We're back to regularly scheduled Impact! Taped from the Impact Zone in Orlando, FL.

Eric Bischoff is out to start with highlights of No Surrender. He congratulates Anderson for his win and calls out Angle and Hardy. He says these guys had a match the likes of which was never seen before, but couldn't determine a winner. He makes the main event at BFG a 3-way and leaves. BUT here comes Dixie! *Groan* Dixie says she's very proud of what Angle and Hardy achieved at No Surrender - they gave it their all and never stopped. She overturns Bischoff's decision because she wants to give them a chance to settle it here tonight - in a No Time Limit match. Short and to the point. 1 for 1.

Backstage, D'Angelo Dinero is looking for Bischoff, bitching about something. He runs into Nash and Sting, shakes their hands, walks off. Random.

A cameraman has tracked Dreamer down to a gas station and asks him where EV2.0 will go from here. Dreamer says maybe they'll just go home.

Match 1: Samoa Joe (w/ Jeff Jarrett) and Kevin Nash (w/Sting) fought to a no-contest via Sportz Entertainment Finish (tm) in 3 minutes. After a brief match, it all spilled to the outside and a big brawl erupted, resulting in a double-countout. Security tries to break it up and fails. Jarrett gets in a dive on Sting! Nice. 1 for 2.

Lacey Von Erich is in a towel backstage when she's approached by Madison Rayne and Tara. Rayne tells her to get dressed up because Rayne and Lacey have a tag title shot tonight. Lacey is still undecided about which side she wants to take, though - Velvet's or Madison's. Tara tells her not to hurt herself by thinking.

Nash and Sting are in the back. Nash proclaims war. Sting says the gloves are off and he's having fun now. He says Joe and Jeff won't even make it to 10.10.10.

Match 2: X-Division Championship: Jay Lethal over Doug Williams via Lethal Injection in 5 minutes. Random, unadvertised title matches, and a title change to boot. TNA booking at it's finest. The match was ok, but they both seemed to hold back a little. Williams seemed to carry the match but wound up losing. Fortune needs as many titles as they can get, so this decision confounds me. 2 for 3.

Abyss is dragging someone around backstage and breathing rather loudly.

Kurt Angle is backstage, saying Hardy's a great wrestler but not a champion. Kurt's the champion, because Kurt is TNA. Exactly how many people "are TNA"? They seem to say that for every other main-event player. Kurt is the best. Angle promises to win the title at BFG.

Match 3: TNA Knockouts Tag Titles: Hamada and Taylor Wilde over Madison Rayne and Lacey Von Erich via pin (Fireman's carry/neckbreaker combo) in 4 minutes. Longer than I thought it would be, but still half-decent. Taz obviously didn't think so, shitting all over the match in a backhanded way. Madison and Tara kissed before the match, which is a reason to check this match out. Postmatch, Rayne berates Von Erich for sucking and lays in the boots but The Beautiful People make the save. 2 for 4. If Lacey joins with Angie and Velvet, it works out fine because she doesn't have to step in the ring at all.

Dreamer heads to the ring, sans EV2.0. He calls out Fortune, who are out sans Doug Williams. Dreamer says he's sick of seeing his friends get hurt and wants a truce. "This is over." When he first came to TNA, he wanted to show everyone how TNA was different. So he brought company. His company is gone now, and he admits that Fortune is the future. This is the house that AJ built, but Dreamer just wants a place to call home. Dreamer compares Storm to Sandman, saying Storm has more talent "in one finger" than Sandman. He talks about giving Kaz his first opportunity in WWE, and puts Matt Morgan over by saying that the next big man to walk into the E will be called "the next Matt Morgan." He relates how Roode turned down a WWE contract to stay in TNA (in idea if that story is true, guys?) and calls him a mixture of Hennig and Rude. Dreamer speaks about Flair, calling him "the business," and notes that when he retires, it'll be a very sad day indeed. He addresses Styles next - AJ made him say something he's never said in 20 years of wrestling. Dreamer says AJ is just better than him, the greatest performer in the business today. Dreamer wants to shake AJ's hand. AJ says Dreamer is all heart - he took a company and turned it into a revolution. He never asked for respect but always seemed to get it, and he has AJ's respect. They shake and hug. AJ says he doesn't need Dreamer's respect or praise and attacks him. The rest of Fortune is hesitant, but AJ's calling the shots and they oblige. Brian Kendrick comes down for the failed save and gets disposed of. Security comes down to try and stop it but are afraid to get in the ring. AJ tells Dreamer he has his truce. Brilliant mic work from Dreamer, especially the little story he had for each member of Fortune. It went the way it should've. Also loved to see AJ emerge as the true leader, calling the shots today. 3 for 5.

Kendrick gets on the mic and challenges anyone from Fortune to fight him, right now!

Match 4: Brian Kendrick over Matt Morgan via High Kick in 2 minutes. Ugh. TNA ADD at its worst. That was such a huge segment just prior to this and they should've let that simmer for a week. I can get behind a Brian Kendrick push, but this is not the way to achieve it. 3 for 6. Postmatch, Morgan says he wrestled in a $7500 suit and wasn't ready. He wants the loss expunged from the books and keeps saying "Kendrick" a lot.

The Pope talks to Ms. Tessmacher but still can't get through to Bischoff. He gets pissed and starts throwing things around before calming down and asking Tessmacher to come to his dressing room.

Abyss has two people tied up in what looks like some sort of dungeon. He has Janice and now he introduces Bob, a branding iron that has '10.10.10' on it. I have no idea who the two victims are. Abyss brands one of them with Bob. Jeez. The cameraman is too busy capturing this prime footage to, you know, think about saving a fellow man from a branding. I get suspension of disbelief, but how does this not land Abyss in jail?

Tenay and Taz have a phone interview with RVD, who promises to be back and better than ever. Bischoff chimes in saying that was his theme music in WWE. He did! Rob says he still considers himself the champ and so do all the people in the TNA Universe. I thought it was the TNA Galaxy. RVD promises to be in the Impact Zone next week and that no one's gonna stop him.

Generation Me are out, fresh off their heel turn. Jeremy points out that if you get injured and can't defend the belt for 30 days, you have to forfeit it. He says that after what they did to Alex Shelley, he won't be around for a long time. He talks about what their name represents and how it's all about them. They say they're not here to pay dues but to get what they want. They call out Sabin to hand over the belts but Sabin comes out and kick their asses until the Numbers Game (tm) becomes too much. Double Hangman DDT! Yikes. Gen Me toss the belt at Sabin and leave. 4 for 7.

Match 5: No Time Limit: Jeff Hardy and Kurt Angle fought to a no-contest via double-pin in 21 minutes. Lengthy main event that spilled into Reaction. That was some nice booking there, to get the gimmick into play as well as get some hype on the new show. Good work. In India, they don't show Reaction regularly but followed the match into overtime. The match was slow but had the right notes of psychology. The finish came when they locked in dueling ankle locks and both got pinned. It didn't look particularly good or realistic, and I'm sure both of them could come up with a better double-pin scenario. 5 for 8. Anderson joined on commentary after mid-match, and really should've had more of a presence on this show. Postmatch, Bischoff heads down and talks to Dixie and confirms Angle v Hardy v Anderson at BFG.

- End show.

Wrestling Counter: 35 minutes.

The Score: 5 for 8: A decent return, though I have to question the basic decision to skip Impact in favor of that tacky kickoff show they had (which was available on their site anyway, which is where it should've stayed). This show did a good job of setting up the various angles for BFG, which usually receives the best build of all TNA PPVs. Still, they've hurt themselves by giving themselves two less hours to push towards BFG. That resulted in some rushed booking today, especially the Kendrick/Morgan match, which happened too soon after the brilliant Dreamer/Fortune segment. The main event was good, and it took a while to get to the main event for BFG, but we finally have that set. I'm intrigued to see what Pope is up to and I think Anderson will be an interesting third party in Angle v Hardy, as he has history with both guys. An interesting show that sets up some potentially positive stuff.

Dunno, but I do know you've ensured the probability of this thread getting enough referrals to make it into September's "Topics of Interest" just went up significantly.

TNA lost me not long after Hogan et al came on board, but the last few weeks have been a steady improvement. They still suffer from some wacky booking and a general lack of coherence, but that's been the case for as long as I can remember and the annoying/silly stuff isn't as intolerable as it was a few months ago.

Most weeks they give you at least one good TV match and the focus has shifted at least a little from the elder statesmen on the show. I still can't help but feel they're underusing the Pope mind you, and hopefully Shelley's back sooner rather than later, but overall the show's heaps better than it was back in the Spring.

It's such a relief to see heel wrestlers deliver a promo in jeans and polo shirts instead of suits. I appreciate the variety of presentation.

I'm not real sure why they didn't just build to a Match between Lethal and Williams at BFG. The Match was randomly thrown out there and didn't mean much as it last all of five minutes. I like Williams and his title reign started off with good potential but they dropped the ball. At least they stayed with Lethal's celebration instead of throwing it backstage. Morgan jobbing in two minutes to Kendrick after Kendrick got beat on minutes earlier just makes Morgan look bad. It was the same sort of finish as the Abyss-Richards match a few weeks ago. Pretty silly to see two refs in there counting near falls before the finish and the annoncers ignored the two refs in there until the end. The Pope heel turn is rather random and they could have explained it better instead of just having him shake Nash and Sting's hands. The Dreamer-Fortune segment was really good and I also liked A.J coming off as the leader. Hardy-Angle was an excellent match with another dopey ending. Please get Dixie off tv. She cuts crappy promos and has the same facial reaction all the time. She is almost as bad as a character as Linda McMahon was.

So.. is Pope just blind or something? Are we supposed to believe that he couldn't get in touch with Eric Bischoff when we saw that he was just in the ring at the top of the show (and at the end of the show). What? He can't like... walk out to the arena floor while Bischoff was with Angle and Hardy or something?

Also. It's Fourtune... Fourtune not Fortune! ;P (Kidding - I know it doesn't make sense when there's like six - or seven depending on if they care to remember Williams is in the group that week - of them!)

I thought that the Knockout's match was better than expected though I was kind of sad to see that any storyline advancement of Wilde and Hamada was tossed aside in favour of more Beautiful People stuff. Why would they ignore the chance to develop more faces instead of continuing a feud around five heels?

Hardy/Angle was good, even though we had just seen it two weeks ago. Just like two weeks ago, a pretty good match was ruined by idiotic booking. Yea. (The X-Division match was similar - it was a fairly decent match but with no build up, what does it mean? Also, apparently Xplosion is now that place to determine number one contenders to championships. That's probably smart.)

It also seems like any importance surrounding the title has just taken a backseat to the Dixie Carter (who has HORRIBLE entrance music, by the way) vs. Eric Bischoff mini scuffle.

The overrun into Reaction was a sneaky way to get the ratings up for that show, I imagine. I wonder how many people stuck with it after the Angle/Hardy stuff?

Is Jeff Hardy getting fat or was I seeing things? That was the first time I tuned in to Impact in months and that really stood out to me.

The "double pin" was just awful - MAYBE two shoulders were actually on the mat BETWEEN Angle and Hardy, but I don't think either guy had shoulders down. Not that that would stop either Hebner, anyway - after Earl came down to ruin the match with his patented telegraphed 2 counts, my enjoyment of the match went way down. After Brian came back in the ring, my enjoyment of the match just completely evaporated. Nice to see Brian is inheriting a "telegraph the finish" technique from his dad after all. All of this I could probably abide, BUT...

AFTER the match, and AFTER each man has put a 3 count on a particular set of shoulders - SOMEHOW during their argument, each ref completely changed his mind and argued AGAINST the very 3 count they had JUST made! Earl counted Angle's shoulders down...and then raises his hand? And Brian argues AGAINST it, because...he put a 3 count on Hardy's shoulders? Unreal.

So why didn't they just book the three-way at the start of the show and just stick with it? Why insult the audience's intelligence by promising Angle/Hardy where there MUST be a winner, have there not be a winner AGAIN, and then book the three-way anyway? They just booked in a giant circle. What was the point of that?

To create tension between Dixie and Bischoff, who overrode each others' decisions in turn.

Bischoff wants a three way, Dixie wants a one on one, Dixie's one on one ended up with both guys pinned on their backs, and Bischoff gets his three way anyway.

I feel like I just described a porno.

You did and probably transcribed Bischoff's testimony in the Gold Key case. Missed the show, but did attend a TNA house show in Wilkes Barre. A small, but very vocal crowd. Got to meet Jarrett, Sabin, Pope, Ink Inc and took a picture with Velvet. This show needs a lot of what I saw last night high energy and not a lot of bullshit. I swear as small as the crowd was Jeff's pop was one of the top ten if not five pops I have heard live. He is getting pudgy, but the crowd loves and he doesn't look terrible in the ring. It is more fan friendly then WWE, but WWE has three times more fans and the lines would huge and chaos would ensue. Still, it was a good time and I would recommend going, but don't pay more then $25, autographs were free which was nice.

An Ok show. I though Dreamer's promo was really strong and put over all the members of Fortune.

GenMe are becoming a pretty good heel team considering they were kinda booked on the fly.

Still need to wrap up all the Sting/Nash/Jarrett BS. They are still milking "Why Sting Why?" and it has been 9 months. I'm sure Nash will ruin it like he typically does by not putting the angle over at the last minute.

No mention here of Kurt crashing onto his head? Just at the hour mark: Jeff misses his top rope spot; Kurt goes to the second rope; does his backflip into Jeff; Kurt doesnt quite get rotated enough, &/or Jeff doesn't quite get enough of Kurt on the "catch"; Kurt lands piledriver-style on his own head. Kurt did get one arm down to partially protect himself. That's what the bleeding on his forehead was about. Kurt did appear to rally fine, & continue with the straps-down, etc. I just sooooo hate to see that at all, & find it especially scary for Kurt's neck. (Also particularly scary if the rib injury is real, then he's probably on pain meds for that. You can't always tell that you've done something really damaging to yourself if you're already on the painkillers...) I did not like the way he looked from that point on. Eeesh.

If you had one week in the "how long will Jay Lethal hold the championship" pool, you win.

According to the TNA website, Amazing Red defeated Jay Lethal for the X-Division championship in NYC.

Kind of makes all that fanfare and confetti seem silly, huh.

It also shows how little the X Division title means to them at this point if they aren't even televising the title switch. (Unless they plan to televise the actual match next Thursday)

Is Lethal injured or something? That's the only reason I could surmise for such a sudden move.

How about popping the local NY crowd? Red's from NY. Nothing stops them from switching it back at the next house show.
