So, Alabama has two Heisman trophy contenders at running back as well as being the team to beat this year and good luck to any team trying to do that. Michigan has the current Heisman trophy odds on favorite, but they also had that person last year too when they played Notre Dame. Speaking of the Irish, Kelly is an idiot. You kick the field goal going into the half and then bring out your QB who changed the entire course of that second half more so then Robinson. Michigan got 500 yards out of Robinson and 4 TDS, one of which came with 27 seconds left in the game to win it. I don't know if that is good or not, all I know is that I can't see him doing this for 10 more games. Notre Dame under Kelly looks like exactly like Notre Dame under Charlie, quick strike offense while keeping the defense on the field for forever. There are no positives for Notre Dame and all positives for Michigan.

Boise State's chances of getting into that final game just went from 50% to 25%. James Madison will get a fruit basket from the BCS. Okalohoma is a good team, FSU is not. Miami has a way to go to being the Big Bad again in College Football, but for now Ohio State is that. Oregon didn't look good in the first half, but looked like a Pac-10 champ while USC continues to struggle. The SEC looks shaky expect the Old Ball coach who finally beat the Dogs. The Big East and ACC look terrible, basketball can not come soon enough for those guys. Now that Monster Saturday, all the top ten teams survive and the coasting til conference games can begin.

There's only so long until a system that is fundamentally broken falls apart. If Boise goes undefeated this year then it could very well happen this year. All it takes is another game like the "Assassination at Ann Arbor" for it to happen.

Um, no. What I took away from the game (other than DENARD!!!~!!!111) was that our secondary still blows, the defense as a whole needs work, we badly need a Steve Slaton running back for our Pat White, and good god we need a kicker. For as much as we controlled the game for three out of four quarters, we still basically almost gave the whole thing away. That's not "all positives".

Other thoughts:

What the hell, VaTech. You guys did that on purpose to screw with Boise, didn't you? Assholes.

Boy it sure is a good thing Florida State railroaded Bobby Bowden out before his time!

Poor Penn State. Knew it was coming, knew 'Bama was gonna roll them, but still. Throwing a pick to a prone defender, well, that's starting a true freshman on the road in Tuscaloosa for ya.

WHAT THE HELL VATECH.

Not that this is going to make Virginia Tech fans feel any better, but I think it has become obvious now that the gap in talent and/or coaching between FBS teams and the top FCS teams (not the entire division) isn't as great as we like to assume. I think Appalachian State with the Michigan win was the first FCS team to beat a ranked FBS team, now just three years later we have a second. Ole Miss lost to Jacksonville State just a week ago, and Jacksonville State came within two disastrous minutes of beating Florida State last year. There are myriad other examples in recent years of FCS schools giving BCS conference teams all they can handle, even if the bigger schools manage to win in the end.

I'm not suggesting the two divisions are equal, only that there are obviously some very, very good football teams in the lower tier, and I would expect there to be even more of these outcomes in the years ahead. It makes sense too. Virtually every BCS conference team minus a small few plays at least one FCS team annually now, and some even play two on occasion. If you're a decent recruit who gets overlooked by the power conferences, would you want to play in the Sun Belt or Conference USA and play in obscurity, with three- and four-loss seasons being considered very good? Or would you rather go play for a championship and get a chance once or twice per year to go try and take out some of the country's best teams each year? I think both have their benefits, and obviously it ultimately depends on individual circumstances, but I think a considerable number of athletes would choose the FCS route.

So many people complain about teams' FCS opponents, but at the very least I think good FCS teams are at least as tough an opponent as a decent amount of non-BCS FBS teams would be.

Continuing to follow my favorite teams:

My Kent State Golden Flashes fell on the road to Boston College, 26-13, dropping to 1-1. They get Penn State next week, on the road. Joygasm.

My Indiana Hoosiers (1-0) had a bye week; they play Western Kentucky next.

My Old Dominion Monarchs (FCS) defeated Campbell on the road, 44-13; they'll host William and Mary next week.

I agree that the FCS is probably underrated but I'll go a step further and say that I think a lot of the teams/players in the FBS that aren't in the "big six" are underrated too. This is probably my biggest problem with the Boise State supporters. They support Boise State for the sake of argument and not really to champion the "small guy". Most of them know nothing about the small conferences after Boise State and TCU and maybe BYU and Utah. Most of them would think Case Kenum was a case of beer and not one of the best quarterbacks in the nation.

Heck, I just did a fantasy football league where you have to pick players all from one college football conference. People laughed when I picked Conference USA but I feel pretty good about my team of Favre, Kolb, Garrad, Chris Johnson, DeAngelo Williams, Ahmad Bradshaw, Moss, Brandon Marshall, Roddy White, Mike-Sims Walker.

That being said, most of these players/teams play in the Conference USA or MAC and almost none are in Boise's WAC. The Mountain West might have been a step up before Utah and BYU bailed. I wonder if Boise State could actually schedule a tougher schedule as an independent.

As for my team, I wasn't that unhappy with Florida's performance. South Florida is notorious for stinking up the second half of the season but they've been pretty tough in September for years now. I expected it to be a close game throughout so I was pretty pleased with them running away in the second half. I just wish they'd stop using Brantley for option plays, he's not Tebow. Just let him throw the ball and let Demps do the running.

At least for this season, the Mountain West has a better argument to have a BCS automatic bid than the Big East and ACC do.
FUCK USC. First 6 of a 7 team in and they can't blow out Virginia.
Kelly's offense is a quick strike offense. Look at the time of possession numbers for Cincy last year. Defense continues their streak dating back to black saturday in '93 against BC of not being able to get big stops late in the game at home. And, Michigan will stumble badly in the Big Ten if they don't get a kicker.
Guess Florida State isn't back yet. And Georgia Tech losing shocked me.

Actually it is. Granted I was optomistic for a better performance this weekend, but you really expected one of the worst defenses in college football to get fixed in eight months? To go from not stopping anyone to stopping Oklahoma? The time was right and I just wish Bobby would shut up about it at this point.

By the way, I went to the game and it was a lot of fun despite the score. The fans in Norman were pretty great. Huge tailgating scene before hand and I lost count of how many older fans tapped us on the shoulder and said "thanks for coming, great to see you". Very classy fan base. Though they really, really hate Texas.

However I pigged out on fatty foods after, which I never do, and have had severe stomach cramping and possibly destroyed by gallbladder in the process, but at least I got to see my team live for the first time in 20 years.

It's a young team on D that's still adjusting to the zone scheme and in need of a few more playmakers, especially on the line. Considering how the rest of the ACC looks, it could still be a good season.

I was happy to see Jacory be Jacory still. Not sure why anyone thought he would get over his retardation when under pressure. He didn't improve a lick all of last season, was no reason to expect him to be better this year. Granted he's talented and they will feast on teams that can't rush him, but that's his limit.

Not surprised at Lattimore and Richardson being awesome. Really wish FSU hadn't missed on those guys, Bama and SC are set for a while if they dont' leave early.

Yep cuz with Bobby out, there won't be any more humiliating losses! Certainly not historic ones that would make the record books!

Bobby deserved so much better than what happened. Now FSU has earned any and all negatives that come their way.

You obviously have zero clue what was going on behind the scense last year. He deserved what he got. Still love the guy, but it was past time to go.

And no one expected the team to be awesome in year one with all the problems they had last season. They had a lot to fix, it'll take time. Hell Saban sucked his first year at Bama, did you declare it a bad move after two games too?

Well, Mexico was happy with the tie because that meant they were first in the group. If Italy scored they would have passed them for first place.
