No, Conan O'Brien didn't win an Emmy, so we didn't get to see him make what would have been an amazing acceptance speech on NBC. But big congratulations to The Daily Show.

Don't have much else to say, but I'd be remiss if I didn't mention the opening number, which I didn't get to see live, but absolutely LOVED seeing after the fact. I have to take this time to give a lot of credit to Jimmy Fallon, who went from a guy I absolutely loathed on SNL to a guy who's actually become (dare I say) likable as a late night host and as an award show host. Good for him. Glad to see I was wrong about him.

The opening number was very good, and I probably would have enjoyed it even more if I were a bit more up on Glee and pop culture generally. It is with a bit of smugness that I note that I didn't recognize who Kate was until I read about it later. I dug the Modern Family/George Clooney bit, too. The tribute to canceled shows medley, however, really wasn't funny.

Is it me, or was Jewel's song horrible? Maybe it's just that I never cared for her, but it really grated on me.

OTOH, the winners made me happy all night. Eric Stonestreet! Modern Family! Top Chef! Archie Punjabi! Jim Parsons! Very nice. Still sore that John Noble wasn't nominated for his amazing work on Fringe, but from the pool of nominees I was in agreement a lot of the time.

Insert my annual complaints about the Hollywood bullshit and throw them in here. Still no Emmy for the much deserving Steve Carell, still nothing for the much deserving Office, Community (a funnier show than Modern Family) didn't even get nominated; the list just goes on.

However there were at least some good points finally: Glee didn't run away with eight billion wins, and Bryan Cranston won an acting Emmy. I'd throw Top Chef finally de-throning the inexplicable run for Amazing Race, but that should've happened years ago so whatever.

Thanks for posting that video Mr. False. Fantastic opening number, and the best part is that I didn't have to watch the rest of it. At least Dexter got an award.

Doesn't Joel McHale's inclusion in the skit negate all of Community's little jabs at Glee?

I liked Hamm and Fey dancing together since he did guest star as a love interest for Liz on 30 Rock.

Liked Jorge's inclusion but it would have been nice if he had more to do.

Am I getting old because out of all the winners listed there, I've only watched The Pacific and You Don't Know Jack.

I have no want or need to watch Glee and the rest of the stuff, I've seen maybe an episode or two. Even Breaking Bad hasn't done anything for me last season and I gave up on it as well.

Geesh.

Monk was more of a unique show than 24 would ever have hoped to have been and was on for longer as well. Monk had a following 24 viewers could never and will never ever have. People still watch more Monk than 24 ever. Law & Order was good up until years 18, 19 & 20.

Lost is my fav show of all time, only one above Monk, so I agree with you there.

But Monk deserves it.

Monk is pretty significant as one of the first big basic cable hits and Emmy winners (for Shalhoub of course). Without Monk there certainly wouldn't be the rest of the pretty solid USA lineup and maybe not as many basic cable shows on other networks too. It could be several more years before someone takes a chance on The Shield, Mad Men, the Closer, Breaking Bad, etc if Monk had not paved the way. That's more significant than a show that was really long, a show that had a big internet following that was ultimately unsatisfied by the ending and a show that had a clock in it. Monk might not pull down the ratings as those other shows but if the Emmy show is all about recognizing "big" shows then Mad Men and Breaking Bad don't deserve to win Emmys either.

I flipped to see NPH lose to the fat guy and then back to see the exotic chick win for Good Wife and turned it off. How the fuck did Good Wife get nominated, but not Sons of Anarchy? Which was my major complaint about this year's Emmy nominations this year was that Sons, probably the best show I've seen in years and not one nomination not even Katey Sagel as best actress. She has been awesome since day one and gets looked over for who, Kyra Sedgwick in the Closer? Retarded. As for Modern Family, I have seen it here and there and Ed O'Neil is the best part. Sheldon winning was the only good thing to happen.

He won guest actor. Now of course that's stupid that that was his category, but it is what it is; it would have been chosen by the Dexter producers and/or Lithgow, I believe.

I think it depends on how you're credited. If Lithgow was listed as a guest star in his episodes (even though he was on pretty much the entire season), then he has to go in the "guest actor" category.

This is what happened. They weirdly listed him as a guest actor despite being a regular, so he won that category instead. Maybe they thought they were working the system to get him (and the show) a better chance at an easier award, and it turned out they would've been better of playing it straight?
