Yay, a kissing contest! All six remaining Rookies are in the ring, and LayCool come down to host the contest. The Rookies' kissing will be graded on softness, passion, and bestiness. Winner gets a "fabulous package of prizes," according to LayCool.

Husky Harris is first and seems pretty ambivalent. After some "pucker up" talk, LayCool hit us with a SHOCKING SWERVE -- they brought in an "expert kisser," who will be on the receiving end and will be judging the contest. Her name is Margaret, but she's called "Margarita" -- oh ha ha she's sooo fat. This segment is already going on for like a year. Margarita also has a a giant cold sore on her lip. COMEDY~

Harris wants the mic but LayCool won't give it to him -- Kaval steps to Harris to defend his mentors (nice touch). Harris gives Margarita a big smooch (dip included!) and wipes his face after.

Michael McGillicutty gives Margarita a twirl and a pelvic thrust and then licks her face -- classy! "Lucky" Cannon brushes her hair behind her ear, lifts her chin up and kisses her all nice. Margarita fans herself!

Did I mention there's "sexy" saxophone music playing this whole time? Percy Watson's next. LayCool: "Are you gonna make it rain for us, baby?" Percy is terrified and goes for the quickest peck he can (although McCool shoves him in by the back of his head).

Kaval's up but LayCool aren't sure they want to give him to Margarita. Layla decides to "take one for the team" and snogs Kaval herself. Kaval's all woozy! Wait, no, we're told that doesn't count. Kaval, wincing, goes in for the quick smackeroo.

Alex Riley is (THANKFULLY) last and heads in for a lengthy liplock, and then, hand over heart, he faints dead away.

And the winner is......."Lucky" Cannon! LayCool reveal that ALL the Rookies have won the prize package, though: Gingivitis, halitosis, and cooties! Riley heads back for some more action!

I'm not sure why I felt the need to recap that whole thing. That was the worst segment I've seen on any wrestling show in a really, really long time.

Kaval vs. Husky Harris: Kaval does this neat thing where he hops up onto Harris' shoulders and then dropkicks him. Harris goes to the outside; Kaval tries a crossbody but Harris catches him and SLAMS him into the guardrail.

Harris keeps control for a while but Kaval counters a catapult into a double footstomp. Kaval misses the Tidal Krush and Harris puts him down with a one-armed slam and finishes him with the big-ass senton.

Michael McGillicutty vs. "Lucky" Cannon: This was boring for a minute and then turned out to be a squash, with McGillicutty killing Cannon with the "McGillicutter." Oh MAN how come none of us came up with that? It seems so OBVIOUS now.

Alex Riley vs. Percy Watson: Not much to see here. Watson sure likes those dropkicks. He puts Riley in the corner and goes up for punches ("Gimme Ten!" he yells to the crowd), but Riley drops him into a reverse Atomic, throws his head into the middle turnbuckle, and hits him with the You're Dismissed for three. Watson's pro, MVP, seems totally bored by the whole thing, and is disappointed but not surprised by the result.

The Miz vs. Michael McGillicutty: McGillicutty tries and looks pretty good but The Miz is a Pro. Kick to the face! Skull-Crushing Finale! Miz puts McG away in about five minutes, but it was fairly competitive while it lasted -- McG got a couple of near-falls in via rollups and stuff.

Next week, another Rookie goes home. Voting starts tomorrow!

My rankings:

1. Kaval
2. Husky Harris
3. Percy Watson
4. Michael McGillicutty
5. Alex Riley
6. Lucky Cannon

My vote: Watson
My elimination prediction: Cannon

I felt like a bit of an oddball lately over being in the minority on LayCool. Tonight, I feel a little vindicated. That kissing contest was one of the single worst segments in years. None of the guest host stuff on Raw over the last year can touch how freakin' awful this was. It's honestly among the myriad of reasons why I sincerely hope young women don't watch WWE and why I'm ashamed of the message WWE sends young males. I love the E, but every LayCool segment has reinforced the idea that it's funny to poke fun at fat women. It couldn't have been any worse if they had thrown in a Piggie James joke or a crack about Molly Holly's fat ass.

What a difference a few weeks makes. Anyone else getting the vibe that Percy's stock has REALLY dropped lately? I don't think he loses next week, but he sure won't be winning the whole thing, either.

I think the real problem with LayCool is that they are a knockoff of BP with Angelina and Madison only without the tongue in cheek aspect to them. Being the mean girls who seem never to get their just deserts especially during the Fatty James storyline has made them more irritating then anything else. While, it was an interesting idea to make them mentors, this segment proved that interesting does not equal good. They are better off in small portions on this show. And honestly, its not like anyone watches for the women's division anymore. Now that the playboy deal is gone, I am not sure what the point is having a bunch of girls who can't wrestle on the show is.

As for NXT, it goes away in a few weeks and that is probably for the best. I like Kaval and some of these guys have some talent, but unless WWE has another Nexus invasion storyline or a good push for one or two then that locker room is going to be crowded with NXT rookies who are going to need help along the way.

Have to totally agree that the kissing segment was one of the worst, if not THEEEEE WORST, wrestling segment I have ever seen. Absolutely awful.

Did I miss something...why is it that MVP now suddenly seems totally disgusted with his rookie Percy? MVP looked like he was walking to the electric chair when walking to the ring with Percy. And his depression just got worse as he stood on the ring apron watching the match.

And did Kofi do McGillicuty any favors by sticking his nose in and setting up McGillicuty's match against a well rested Miz the same night after he would have to wrestle Lucky Cannon? If I'm McGillicuty, I want the match next week.

Relax, guys! I've seen far worse things in WWE than that. The (fake) burping contest between Eric B. and Stone Cold just to name one. And in fact, it was a good way to show the rookies what they are up to, if they indeed happen to get a contract with WWE. The kissing contest was sports entertainment at it's .. well .. "finest" and anything (!) can happen in WWE. So, better be prepared!

Once again I was impressed with Kaval. For a serious guy he handles all that stupid stuff they are throwing at him really well. And his match was great again. Just sad he's getting the Daniel Bryan "push".

I'm not arguing the (ahem) similarities between LayCool and The Beautiful People. But the Piggy James angle, as awful as it was, DID have a happy ending where Mickie squashed McCool in 10 seconds, took the Women's Title, and the other face Divas caked and pied LayCool. They literally got their just desserts. Then Mickie got a staph infection, was hospitalized, then released, so LayCool ended up winning in the end. But had Mickie not gotten injured, she would have had the belt a while longer.

The funniest thing about the kissing segment was how goddamned horrified - legit, I'd say - the Rookies were about kissing McCool. The whole time while she was on the mic, I was looking at the the shiny diamond ring on the fourth finger of her left hand. None of the Rookies wanted to kiss McCool - lest they Rest. In. Peace.

I'm just shocked Mae Young wasn't carted out for the segment.

Finally, NXT has turned me around on LayCool. I hated them, hated them, hated them. Now I don't so much anymore. At least they have personalities - stolen from Velvet, Angelina, Madison, and Lacey plus Lindsay Lohan, Rachel McAdams, Amanda Seyfried, and Lacey Chabert, sure, but personalities nonetheless. And they've taken that gimmick and done a lot more with it than I ever expected. Considering how bland their main rivals Tiffany and Kelly Kelly are, at least until Beth returns, it's something.

I've said this before: the people NXT season 2 have gotten over with me are LayCool and Dashing Cody Rhodes.

Percy's act seems to have run its course. OH YEAH!

Kaval is being kept alive by LayCool and the Internet.

Husky's probably done next week. Nothing's changed on that front in terms of people liking him any more than they already don't.

Lucky's gone if Husky isn't.

NXT really is coming down to McGuillicutty, Riley (at least if Mizster Cole has anything to say about it), and Kaval (Internet Darling #2).

Mathews was pretty awesome this week as Cole was fellating Miz about how both his Rookies found Miz so inspirational: "DO YOU EVEN REMEMBER SEASON ONE OF NXT?!" Then Cole said something actually kind of logical in retort: "I remember his Rookie then was ranked number one until he eliminated himself." That's not even WWE-style re-writing of history.

Second best was Cole saying "There's no reward for effort on NXT!" and Mathews firing back: "There IS a reward because we have a ranking system here on NXT." I could listen to those two argue for TWO hours.

Thank God we're in the PG era or else this would have been a kiss my ass club contest with Vince in there. The contests have gotten worse from the previous season. The did nothing except add the fans vote to a flawed show. The little I've seen of this season has been pretty bad. Hey at least Cody Rhodes has developed a personality. If there's a next season have Dibiase be one of the pros and see if you can draw a personality out of that bland act.

The hubris of the WWE Board of Directors in Charge of Producing NXT is galling; it's like they want season 2 to get really offended at their treatment and band together to destroy Smackdown as part of a larger purpose that none of you could understand.

Layla and Kaval kissed, awwwwww.

Fan voting has kind of ruined any semblance of booking interesting finishes for the rookie matches. WWE just puts its hand on the scale every week and has the heels who don't get votes beat the faces who do get votes cleanly to justify their evenness. Kaval must die so that Husky may live.

Exactly, and in fact almost exactly what I've said from day one in these threads. The WWE Universe voting has hurt NXT in that they feel they have to tell you to vote for heels. But these fans are not usually going to do that. and the audiences at these live NXT shows are given almost nothing to cheer for outside of segments like the Kissing Contest. And really, the Kissing Contest felt like a WWE writer found an old Vince Russo script from 99 and decided to just go with it.

And why no real follow up on Eli Cottonwood, outside of the recap at the beginning? They should have had Eli attack somebody or do a promo or SOMETHING.

Two or three weeks ago, NXT had the awesome Nexus episode, and now they are right back to the shitty NXT episodes we know and endure.

Y'know, when The Nexus formed and beat the hell out of John Cena, CM Punk, Luke Gallows and everyone and everything at ringside, they explained the following week that the reason they did so was because throughout the entire season of NXT, they were made to look like jokes.

So, just from a strict kayfabe perspective, did WWE Management actually learn anything from that experience? 'Cuz right now it seems to me that Nexus will simply double in size after season two's end. Kissing contests? Really?

NXT has faded back into mediocrity after a couple of decent episodes. The kissing contest was rather sad, but I'm surprised "Creative" didn't think it up earlier.

My updated Ratings:
1. Kaval
2. Riley
3. Harris
4. McGillicuddy
5. Watson
6. Cannon

Vote: Kaval
Elimination: Cannon. Though I'll take Percy going home too.

This is really bothering me, too. When I see segments like the kissing contest last night, it makes me wonder why exactly I'm supposed to be booing Nexus. They have a problem with management? Of course they have a problem with management! You'd have a problem with your management too if they humiliated you on a weekly basis.

So when (because I'm assuming, at this point, it's just a matter of WHEN) the Season 2 guys all turn on management and decide to become Nexus 2.0, WHY am I supposed to be booing these guys? Don't they have a legit point? If management's going to watch as eight rookies rebel against the stupidity of the NXT segments, completely ignore what made them Nexus in the first place, and continue the same trend in Season 2 like nothing's wrong, why shouldn't I root for these guys to form a giant heel stable? Why wouldn't I want these guys to stand up for themselves?

Because they are heels and they attacked the beloved Cena along with the innocent Raw crew. They should have just followed Cena's example of starting out against Kurt in a great opening match, drifted into the lower mid-card while losing to people like Kendrick, dressed as a 90s character, stole said 90s character's gimmick making it more bad ass, jump to the high mid-card, win the title at Mania and slowly sold out what made him great in the first place in order to move the kiddie merchandise while still keeping his ME spot. I mean really, how hard is that.

My problem with Nexus while one of my many, is that we don't know why they keep attacking Cena. In the beginning it was about the stupid contests and wanting respect in the form of contracts. They got the contracts, yet they keep attacking people in regards to this "Big Picture." I think the Big Picture is going to be one of those WWE unsolved mysteries like who was behind GTV and so on. The best way to end that kissing segment or any of the segments is to have one or two of NXT guys take out who is ever running it. I am not a fan of violence against women, but if one of those guys did a finisher on LayCool, it would have been the pop of the night. Its almost like Nexus exists in this weird Earth-2 where they pop in cause some trouble leave and the NXT world keeps going on without blinking any eye. The best move for this group is to either join Nexus during SummerSlam or turn on them on the Monday afterwards or just trash the NXT competition and demand contracts like their predecessors and have Vince fire them all.
