TONIGHT: Raw was taped last Monday so the crew could tour Australia this week. Since this is a no spoiler zone, WWE.com says Randy Orton will go one-on-one with The Miz in the one announced match for this evening.

-Clips aired of Cena’s team forming 2 weeks ago, then what happened with Nexus’s destruction and Cena’s team’s dissension last week.

-Raw Open.

-The announcers plugged Randy Orton vs. The Miz.

-Also, the debut of the trailer for John Cena’s new movie, “Legendary.”

- Edge came out. He equated the fans letting him down after his Royal Rumble return to the Raw team letting him down now. He talked about each member of the team and why he has issues with them. He challenged Wade Barrett to a one-on-one match for later tonight, with no interference from anyone. R-Truth’s music interrupted and he made his way to the ring. Edge reiterated his desire for no interruptions but R-Truth reminded him that Nexus is bigger than just Barrett. Truth said Edge doesn’t have to listen to Cena, but he better listen to him. He said the Raw team is fighting for their way of life and Edge needs to stop thinking about himself. Edge said that to kill a snake, you cut off the head, and that’s what he’d do by beating Barrett tonight. He threatened to spear Truth out of the ring when the GM dinged in with an e-mail. He granted Edge a match with Barrett- right now, in fact. “Good luck- you’re on your own,” said Truth.

[Commercial Break]

(1) Edge vs. Wade Barrett
Running shoulder to Barrett’s gut in the corner was the first high-impact move of the match. Edge found himself on the apron and Barrett booted him to the floor. The Nexus leader worked Edge over on the outside. Barrett had Edge in a rest-hold in the ring, leading to the crowd chanting for the Rated “R” Superstar. He got out and hit the Edge-O-Matic for two. Spear was set up, but Barrett fled the ring. The rest of Nexus came out and Edge high-tailed it through the crowd.

Winner: No Contest (no bell), at about 6:05. Hate these finishers- just announce that Barrett won by count-out or something. Match was OK, but Barrett isn’t there yet.

-Orton vs. Miz, still to come.

[Commercial Break]

-Edge was searching for Cena backstage. He finally came upon him and Edge asked where Cena was to bail him out. Cena reminded Edge of what he had said earlier in the show. Edge then quit the team. Cena was not happy- happier less when he turned around to see Chris Jericho. Cena asked if Jericho was quitting too and Jericho said it was Cena who needed to quit. Jericho said his team only has a chance if Cena leaves it. He said he’d make Cena do it if he didn’t quit on his own. He proposed a match between himself and Cena to see who leaves the team. Cena vs. Jericho never ends well for Jericho. Cena said this is what Nexus wants, then finally agreed to Jericho’s demands.

-The announcers discussed what just happened. Cole and Lawler said Bret Hart was preparing for the match in Calgary, then sent it to a Summerslam Recall from 1991, Bret vs. Mr. Perfect.

-Great Khali and John Morrison were backstage. Morrsion said if the seven WWE members don’t work together, they don’t stand a chance. Morrison tried to equate it to movies (Magnificent Seven, etc), but Khali reminded him of the Seven Dwarfs. Morrison walked off and David Otunga and Michael Tarver walked up to Khali. They said they let him go last week because they respect Khali. Otunga said he heard a rumor that if Khali loses to Ted DiBiase tonight, he’ll be replaced on Team WWE. He said the Nexus door is always open if Khali wants to be respected.

[Commercial Break]

(2) Eve Torres & Gail Kim & Natalya vs. Alicia Fox & Jillian Hall & Tamina
Jillian was quite angry early on in taking on Kim. Natalya cleaned house on Fox, then Tamina broke up a pin. The match broke down and Kim hit a cross-body on Tamina on the outside. Kim though ended up being thrown into the ring post. Natalya hooked in the Sharpshooter, but Tamina attacked. That distraction allowed Fox to hit the Axe kick for the win.

Winners: Fox, Hall and Tamina, at 2:53. Just a means to get to the post-match stuff.

Fox got the mic and called her current reign the greatest in Divas Title history. She claimed she has beaten all comers. Melina’s music then played and she made her return. Fox was pushed back in the ring after trying to escape. Melina sent her to the mat face-first after dodging her with the Matrix move, then hit her finisher.

-Cena vs. Jericho is still to come.

-Sheamus was walking backstage. He’s in action next.

[Commercial Break]

(3) Sheamus vs. Goldust
They cleverly showed the two men’s battles in ECW a year ago. Couple of clotheslines by Goldust was about all he could muster for offense. Irish Curse back-breaker, then the Brogue Kick by Sheamus. He finished it with the High Cross crucifix slam.

Winner: Sheamus, at 2:08. Impressive, dominating win for Sheamus.

On the mic, Sheamus mused about how far he’s come in the last year. He brought up the name Triple H, saying he ended his career. He said people never gave him respect, but he doesn’t need it; all he needs is the title.

-Split screen of Jericho and Cena walking backstage as they meet in battle next.

[Commercial Break]

(4) Chris Jericho vs. John Cena
It was all Jericho early on, and when the fight went to the outside, Jericho threw Cena into the steel steps. He implored Cena to stay down, but of course, that didn’t work. Cena got back in the ring by the count of nine. Jericho choked Cena in the ropes. Cena fought back, but ran into a corner elbow. Rear chin-lock ensued. Cena flipped out and Jericho’s corner charge ended with his shoulder colliding with the ringpost. Vintage Cena comeback, but he walked into a Codebreaker. Cena rolled outside and Jericho lifted the dead weight of his opponent back in. Shoots the half, hooks the leg, only for a two-count. They went to break after the near-fall.

[Commercial Break]

Back with Jericho still in control. He couldn’t hook in the Walls of Jericho though. Attitude Adjustment, but Jericho hung onto the ropes and again dumped Cena to the floor. Springboard dropkick knocked Cena off the apron. Jericho called Cena, “stupid.” He went to the top and hit a nice back-elbow for two. Don’t see that every day from Y2J. Cena again came back but missed his bulldog. Lionsault kinda connected and got two. Corner clothesline on CEna, who was then set on the top rope. Cena loosended things up with a headbutt and knocked Jericho off. Legdrop to the back of the neck of Jericho, but it appeared Cena tweaked his knee. Cover got two. Another Attitude Adjustment, but Jericho battled through and locked in the Walls. Cena countered and Jericho tapped before Cena fully had in the STFU.

Winner: Cena, at 14:14. Nice match from these two, with something at stake too.

Cena got the microphone as a pissed Jericho destroyed the ring steps. Cena said the fans saw one hell of a match and said he wanted Jericho to stay on the team because he can go toe-to-toe with anyone in the ring. He said he wouldn’t beg, but the choice is Jericho’s. Cena said Jericho can fight with him, or let everyone, including himself, down. After contemplating it for a few beats, even walking toward the ring, Jericho snarled and shook his head no, then went to the back.

-Orton vs. Miz, yes, it is still to come.

[Commercial Break]

-They replayed the finish of the last match.

-Edge was in his locker room backstage when Jericho walked in. Edge said he didn’t blame Jericho for what he did and that Cena needs them more than they need Cena. Jericho said he respected Edge for quitting the team. Edge said they’ve been through a lot together and together, they could run things. Jericho extended his hand, and Edge hugged him. After it appeared Jericho and Edge made up backstage, Cole received an e-mail from the GM…Edge and Chris Jericho will fight John Cena and Bret Hart next week on Raw. Also, all seven members of Nexus will participate as Lumberjacks. Ruh-roh!

-Randy Orton was backstage with Josh Mathews. Orton invited Sheamus to watch his match with The Miz and promised to leave Miz in no condition to cash in his MITB. However, Orton said Sheamus would be next.

-Up next, the trailer for John Cena’s movie, “Legendary.”

[Commercial Break]

-Lawler threw it to the World Premiere of the trailer for “Legendary.” It also stars Patricia Clarkson and Danny Glover.

(5) The Great Khali vs. Ted DiBiase
It was pure pwnage from Khali early on, but Maryse got on the apron and DiBiase took over with kicks to the legs of the big man. He hammered away in the corner as Wade Barrett and Skip Sheffield sauntered down to the ring. DiBiase yelled for Maryse to get out of the way and asked Nexus what they were doing. He walked into a Khali Chop, then the Vice Grip was applied. The ref ended it soon after.

Winner: Khali, at 2:21.

-Cole and Lawler reset the show, talking about Chris Jericho and Edge quitting the Raw team earlier tonight.

-The Miz was walking backstage...he faces Randy Orton next.

[Commercial Break]

-Lawler plugged the big Cena/Hart vs. Jericho/Edge tag match next week.

-Cole talked about “The Other Guys,” with Will Ferrell and Mark Wahlberg. They sent it to The Bella Twins hanging out with the two stars. Ferrell and Wahlberg were doing an interview when the Bellas walked in and asked if they wanted to get coffee. Ferrell called them “average looking” and Wahlberg couldn’t believe he was brushing them off. Wahlberg even said he’s such a WWE fan he cried when Wendi Richter went into the Hall-of-Fame. Ferrell left and the Bellas didn’t seem to care for Wahlberg, so he said he likes Alicia Fox anyway. They shoved him into his chair then went back after Ferrell.

-The Miz came out and did some pre-match mic work. He said Orton would regret what he did earlier in the night. He said Orton’s best-case scenario is him beating Sheamus at Summerslam, but then he’ll fall victim to Miz.

(6) The Miz vs. Randy Orton
Long collar-and-elbow tie-up to start the match. Miz risked disqualification early in the match, sending a violent message to Orton in the corner. Orton responded with a clothesline, then a stomp to the gut. Miz choked Orton with his foot in the corner. Orton turned the tables (not literally, of course), and catapulted Miz throat-first under the bottom rope. Jumping knee-drop for two. Miz got clotheslined over the top rope and Orton was fired up in the ring. Will he fly? No. Instead, Sheamus walked out to the top of the ramp. He and Orton had a stare-down as they went to break.

[Commercial Break]

Orton with a reverse chin-lock. Miz landed a jaw-breaker to get out, and followed it up with a big boot. Forearm shots to the face by Miz. Orton worked out of a chin-lock, elbowing his way out. Vintage Orton back-breaker, but Orton couldn’t capitalize because he was holding his knee. Corner clothesline from Miz and again the ref had to restrain him or he’d be DQ’d punching Orton. Out of nowhere, an uppercut from Randy. Miz was almost taunting the fallen Orton. He got Orton to his feet, but Orton hit back with rights and a few clotheslines. Scoop slam and Orton started his convulsing thing. Rope-assisted attempt, but Miz countered by back-dropping Orton over the top and to ringside. Miz went outside and threw Orton back in the ring. Back-breaker into a neck-breaker got a two-count. Miz missed wildly with a clothesline and turned into an RKO.

Winner: Orton, at 14:11. Solid enough match between these two, and interesting to watch given the heat Miz had with Orton during last week’s show.

Orton seemed primed and ready to RKO Sheamus should he have chosen to enter the ring. He didn’t, and the show ended with Orton glaring at Sheamus in the pounce position.

My God, how amazing is Chris Jericho? He looked like he was really touched by what John Cena had said. I myself was surprised when Cena said, "Hey, man... you really are the best in the world at what you do." He had me thinking he might actually come back to the ring. Then he remembers how much he hates Cena, snarls, and walks out. Awesome range of emotions from Jericho.

Always nice to see Goldust, even though I knew he was going to get annihilated by Sheamus. I haven't been watching on a regular basis; how long has Sheamus been doing the Razor's Edge? That's one of my favorite wrestling moves.

Miz and Orton had a great match, and I like how it went from "What an upset this would be if Miz were to defeat Orton" into "RKO, one-two-three" in like five seconds or so. The RKO can really come out of nowhere.

This is actually what NEEDS to happen, even though one of those four will surely end up on the Nexus' side by the end of the PPV.

Sheamus continues to work for me week after week. I'm finding myself, at random times during my average day, hearing someone talk and imagining what it would sound like with Sheamus saying the same thing. This is kinda disturbing actually...

Did anyone imagine last year that Randy Orton and The Miz would be headlining a RAW and it being a GOOD match? Really? Fantastic!

I'm pretty sure there's medication for things like that. (I should know; I'm probably on one of them.)

I'm almost ready to move past the Nexus angle at this point, because they've done such a good job of setting up the eventual Cena/Jericho feud. This is why I never worry about little things like Jericho jobbing to Evan Bourne three times in a row, because he can slide right back into the top slot whenever he wants.

RIP to the Jericho/Edge rivalry. I loved it while it lasted.

We're a few weeks of Summerslam and as much fun as it's been to watch Miz interact with Orton and Sheamus, he's still conspicuously unbooked for the PPV. I wonder if the GM winds up naming him special referee for the title match?

Welcome back, Melina. How soon can we get the Morrison/Melina reunion? (If anything, throwing Melina into Morrison's feud with DiBiase and Maryse would have been ten different kinds of awesome)

I have been trying to watch Raw and minus the Sheamus/Miz/Orton fued, nothing is really holding my interest. Jericho tapping quick, I thought was to show Cena, he didn't care about the team, but the Edge interview with him was just awkward. I also can't buy Nexus as a threat when they haven't done much of anything in the last few weeks minus playing mind games. At least with the ECW/WCW invasion, people got laid out and a number of them held titles, so I am not seeing where the great threat is. If they would have the Nexus do some damage like take the tag team titles off the Harts or the US title off of Miz or do some damage while the Raw Team tries to come together then it would make sense. As of now, its Nexus shows up, people run or Nexus lets them go while Team Raw bitches about each other like a bunch of high school girls.

I can actually see Bret getting taken out by Nexus and allowing Evan to take his spot. I am praying the GM thing gets revealed at SummerSlam or more then likely the following Monday. I still think its Cole, but we are getting close to fall premiere time and Monday Night Football, so they usually throw a good storyline out there or a surprise return to lessen the blow of the ratings. I just don't see Michael Cole as GM equaling ratings, but all signs point to him, so who knows.

Nexus was inconspicuously quiet this week...the calm before the storm, perhaps? Outside of Barrett/Edge, did they beat up anyone? Any major promo time?

Glad to hear they didn't call Whalberg/Farrell guest hosts - they were in for one segment, right? I'm not even sure it was even aired on THE SCORE here in Canada.

Jericho really impressed me today. Keep it up, Y2J.

JERICHO COUNTERED THE FIVE-KNUCKLE SHUFFLE. RAW IS JERICHO.

I have to give everyone on RAW credit, because the stories AND the wrestlers are really clicking right now.

- Wade Barrett's first match with a real "top guy" and it was decent.

- Loved Sheamus squashing Goldust and reflecting on his progress in a year.

- LOVED Jericho essentially beating the crap out of Cena for fifteen minutes. He countered every one of Cena's "big moves" in ways where I usually go "why doesn't Wrestler X do THIS when Cena does (insert one of Cena's five moves here)." A tour de force by Jericho all-around.

- I've decided that Randy Orton is a shitty face. However, his match with the Miz was really pretty good. The Miz countered the second-rope DDT - what got into these guys this week countering all of the staples of their opponents? Wade Barrett even bailed on Edge's spear, now that I think of it. And was Randy stiffing the Miz a couple times or was the Miz just really good at selling it? Either way I was waiting for the Miz to legit punch Randy in the face.

I concur with Jericho owning RAW last night, and I'm glad to see the Team WWE drama lead organically to Edge/Jericho reuniting. And for the right reason: They can pick up the scraps of the WWE after the Nexus battle. Neither character has to change for this development. Good writing, WWE.

Cole and Lawler were certainly giving Miz some love during his match with Orton, and I appreciate the RKO appearing without the tell-tale viper pose.

Speaking of Lawler and Cole, I miss the dynamic provided by a heel commentator. If Cole is revealed as the GM, I hope that decision at least gives us squabbling commentators again. Then again, if I was revealed as the GM, I wouldn't work the table anymore. Maybe that lets someone else take the mic.

Bret needs to give his team the Hart Foundation family reunion speech and rally them together. In a sense I kind of think that's what will happen. They'll be on the same page going into SummerSlam and it'll be cool except Michael Cole will call it all stupidly like "JOHN CENA AND HIS UNLIKELY ALLIES HAVE FORMED A UNITED FRONT FOR THE WWE UNIVERSE ON THE VERGE OF THE BIGGEST PARTY OF THE SUMMER" instead of Jim Ross' amazing call of when Austin and Team WWF stood as one before InVasion.

I don't think ECW/WCW did actually ever lay anyone out besides the first night where ECW formed. Nexus did more damage their first night in than the Alliance did in their entire five month mission.

Is everyone still assuming that there is some kind of power broker backing Nexus? I'm guessing that Team Raw has a meltdown at SS, then we learn who is behind Nexus extending the angle and hopefully making them an actual threat and less of a menace.

I missed the first point where you agreed ECW's first night did do damage, so there was no need for the above post. I will say anytime, a faction holds a good chunk of belts and has power over how those titles are defended is damage. Also, they forced Vince to put his company on the line, that was huge. Nexus beat up Cena, who didn't show any signs of ill effect the next week and destroyed the Raw set. Big deal. DX used to take over the set duing McMahon-Helmsley, Evolution and Bischoff ran Raw for almost two years and the NWO sent Rock to the hospital for about two to three weeks.

Nexus took out Bret and thats been about it. They got their contracts, so I am not sure what the big picture is for them. They don't seem to want titles, they are not "taking over" Raw and they haven't done a beatdown in awhile, so I am not seeing where all this massive damage is being done. In reality, their epic destruction of Raw actually weakened them with Danielson's firing. Do we even know what the cost is if Nexus loses? Are they disbanded or something if not then its another lose and they move on to the next target or just wait and attack again. I am not seeing why this match is a big deal. In both of the Invasion matches things were on the line, the first was the Alliance's survival and the last was who controls the wrestling landscape. The SummerSlam match which they could change is fairly meaningless.

Why are you in such a hurry? When you read books, do you start with the last page?

Nexus doesn't have to do a large scale beatdown every week because everybody else around them ACTS like they have the potential to do so. Part of the reason this angle is doing so well (with everyone except you) is that the other folks involved are putting over the aura and mystique that has been built around Nexus instead of dismissing them, hand-waving them away or brushing them off with juvenile dick/homo jokes during promo time.

Hell, all the six dudes not named Barrett had to do was SHOW UP last night - Edge wasted no time running for the hills. They didn't give a beatdown, but Edge sure got over the *potential* for a beatdown if he'd stuck around. It's effective because the WWE Universe is buying it - even if you're not.

You're worried about stakes? If Nexus lose at SummerSlam, *their mystique is broken.* THAT would be a big deal.

What we are experiencing here is something we haven't seen a lot of lately from the WWE - something I like to call "a slow build." It should be encouraged.

Nexus won a 7 on 7 match just LAST WEEK, lotjx. They keep saying they have a higher porpoise, so there's probably no need for them to be doing boring beatdowns every week. You end up with the nWo if they keep doing that.

The Summerslam match is far from meaningless. If they lose, they don't seem like big deals any more. (Of course, it's unfair for the WWE to book some of their biggest stars like Cena and Edge against them to begin with.)

I do expect Edge and Jericho to be readded next week.. no one was added last night and we'll probably have a show of them being conflicted before 'seeing the light' and joining team WWE.

(Last time Jericho was on Team WWE, he turned on Rock, so expect him to Codebreaker Cena after being eliminated.)

The Nexus didn't just win a 7 vs. 7 elimination match last week, they dominated those RAW guys. They ripped asses open.

The threat of the Nexus, as I see it, is the upending of the "time honored tradition" in WWE (that has been enforced hazing-style on NXT) that "rookies" aren't a threat. In WWE, you toil and toil to break through to the top (except Sheamus, ahem, but he's scared of Nexus too). And most people toil for years before making it through to the lofty levels of a Cena, Jericho, Orton, Undertaker or Triple H. The vast majority are future endeavored.

The Nexus don't care about WWE's "traditions" or "rules". If I can paraphrase Creed re: Michael Scott, "They don't give a fuck about nothin'!"

The Nexus were very clear that they wanted WWE contracts. They wanted to be WWE Superstars from day one. What makes them different is that they're WWE Superstars who call their own shots, who don't answer to anyone, who aren't afraid of the company they work for.

It seems to me, the Nexus has upended the traditional power structure on RAW and in WWE in general. They're seven Rookies who have walked in, torn the place apart, and put themselves on a level where everyone is afraid of them and dreads them. They're already the top of the mountain, and they didn't need to win any titles, much less climb the ranks, to do it. They violated the "rules" (attacking the crew and announcers, attacking Vince McMahon himself) and they've gotten away with it. They are a private army within RAW that does whatever the hell they want. Cena and the RAW guys hope to knock them down a peg at Summerslam.

Now I'm confused as far as a possible Wrestlemania card is concerned. Cena vs. Barrett? Cena vs. Orton? Cena vs. Orton vs. Barrett? Undertaker vs. Barrett? Cena vs. Orton vs. Undertaker vs. Barrett? Daniel Bryan vs. The Miz? Daniel Bryan vs.
