The Pros (minus LayCool) are out first, and then The Nexus (minus Darren Young) come out as well, taking seats on the opposite side of the stage. Wade Barrett says that they're just here to enjoy the show -- hmmmm.

Alex Riley & The Miz vs. "Lucky" Cannon & Mark Henry: Pretty bland tag match, with Cannon playing face in peril for most of it. Riley's wrestling doesn't interest me, but he projects his character well enough to make it a little less boring (like, say, JBL); Cannon, on the other hand, doesn't have the personality for that.

Mark Henry wants to get his paws on the Miz and finally does, flinging him around for a minute until Miz manages to tag out. Henry hits Riley with the World's Strongest Slam for the pin, and then Henry grabs a garbage can and dumps it out over Riley -- payback for last night -- as Miz backs up the ramp.

Video package of the Pros discussing Alex Riley -- he's confident, maybe too much, and he needs to get over being cool in high school ten years ago.

Time for Showtime! With Percy Watson. There's a couch and a love seat in the ring, and heeeeere's Percy -- in his gear -- to get the crowd to shout "OH YEAH!" His first guest is his mentor, MVP.

Watson wants to thank MVP for teaching him so much, but -- sorry, MVP -- the rest of the Rookies come down and it looks like Watson's decided that MVP needs to get beatdown. MVP doesn't roll alone, though -- here come the other pros to make the sides even.

Matt Striker comes out and suggests making this a Battle Royal, and Barrett in turn jumps up and declares he wants in on this. Okay -- a 20-man Battle Royal it is!

20-Man Battle Royal: The Nexus immediately bails out, and then attacks anyone eliminated -- Mark Henry, then Eli Cottonwood. Once the guys in the ring twig to this, they start fighting back. The Pros line up in solidarity, but are attacked by their own Rookies -- at this point, Nexus storms the ring and acts as a cohesive unit, eliminating Season 2's Pros and Rookies alike.

(What happened to Riley there? He was bleeding from the back of the head for some reason, with blood running down his back and shoulders. Ref Jack Doan had to get into the ring to tell him to "get out" and remove him from our view.)

All the Rookies are eliminated, leaving only Zach Ryder, John Morrison, Kofi Kingston, Cody Rhodes, and the Miz against the entire Nexus. The pros stand in solidarity. Zach says he's got this, but the Miz -- Benedict Arnold! -- tosses him out and then goes to make friends with the Nexus. The Nexus surrounds Miz until he jumps over the top rope and flees -- we're down to Kingston, Morrison, and Rhodes.

The three final Pros attack -- no, Rhodes just fakes it and retreats into the corner. Kingston and Morrison fight bravely (at at some length) but there's nothing they can do in the long run. Morrison almost goes out, but clutches the ropes desperately until a running kick from Justin Gabriel sends him spinning to the floor; Kingston follows soon after.

And we're down to Rhodes. Like Miz before him, Cody tries to make friends, but when the Nexus stares him down and encircles him, he simply gives up, head and shoulders sagging sadly, and the Nexus descends upon him. (Great visual!) He's tossed out out, and the Nexus, as a whole is declared the winner.

The Nexus drag the three last pros in and hit some finishers, just for laughs. (Do Tarver and Slater not have finishers, or what?) Matt Striker comes in and asks Barrett -- is he proud of what he's done? Barrett's proud of everything he's done in this ring, he's proud of his compatriots, and as he says..."you're either Nexus...or against us."

-----

My question: now that the new crop of Rookies -- despite the first episode's orchestrated beatdown -- has shown that they're more than happy to follow in the footsteps of the Nexus, can NXT continue on next week as if nothing's happened?

It could go on as normal if they reference the pros beatdown of the rookies and say everything is now square, but that would mean referencing something that was done a month ago, so probably not. Honestly, this is what Nexus should be doing causing mayhem and destruction. I don't know if throwing some more fresh faces is going to help this either. I figure the pro/rookie tension will get mentioned next week by Striker during commentary that everyone meet up later at Denny's and hugged it out. The show is going to get shitcanned in two or three months away, so who knows what Vince and the rest are thinking since they are going to lose another hour of programming and now have all these new stars, I would think most of the NXT guys will be sent to FCW or home or split between the two brands after the Nexus storyline ends.

"You're either Nexus or against us!"

This amusing exchange happened on Twitter around midnight:

@TheRealMorrison Nexus used 2 remind me of the Spirit Squad; Now I think they are a threat- ... But, ur either Nexus or against us is the 5th worst line ever

@maryse0uellet Hahahahahahaha trueRT @RickWWESignGuy: @TheRealMorrison not as bad as your lines last monday

OOOH. Burn! They got Morrison good on that one. Morrison was also hilariously panicky when Miz eliminated Ryder. "There's FOUR of us now! We're OUTNUMBERED!" I thought he'd pee his leather pants and drip down his furry bellbottoms.

Still, the Nexus catchphrase is a little goofy. It could be turned into a hilarious question if the Nexus starts recruiting:

"Hey, wanna Nexus?" "How would you like to Nexus?" "Do you Nexus?"

The Nexus is also a curious entity in that they seem to operate via some kind of group mental telepathy. There's rarely any discussion among the Nexus about what to do, they just do their slow motion PG beatdowns as one. My theory is Justin Gabriel's new fauxhawk is some sort of telepathic conduit that links Wade Barrett to the other 6.

Even though Wade Barrett said outright the Nexus would ensure he would be the sole winner of the battle royal, he seemed to forget all about that. Plus for some reason "the Nexus" were declared the winners. The match was ended before the rest of the Nexus were even given the chance of voluntarily eliminating themselves for Barrett.

Gabriel looks like he's going to vomit every time he hits the 450 and starts keeling over, holding his midsection in pain.

The Nexus looked good in the battle royal, though. I was impressed with the gusto Heath Slater had when he was pounding on Ryder in the corner. Otunga looks tougher now than he ever did on NXT as The A-Lister. But Skip Sheffield is the one who really stands out the most among the NNNNNNs. He looks like a tank, a total bad ass.

I was THIS close to buying my own N shirt. All Nexus had to do was follow through on their threat to kill Striker if he didn't leave the ring. They blew it. You just lost a customer, Nexus.

Aaand that's all my Nexus jokes for today.

Morrison is truly awful on the mic as a goofy face, especially on Monday, but I have to admit to appreciating him as the de facto Junior Cena in terms of being the guy in charge of organizing all the loser faces whenever Nexus shows up and Cena's not around. And barring Punk's suicide run during the first NXT attack, Morrison's also far and away had the best hope spots during the Nexus beatdowns, which I wouldn't have expected considering his offense.

The part where Morrison and Kofi wised up to what Nexus was doing and ambushed them also played into Morrison's position as Midcard Face Leader, and hearing him loudly call Miz an idiot was pretty funny. But not as funny as Ryder's take away from Morrison's strategy session to be "I should go fight all six of them!" If only he'd been saved from the beatdown by a barking Titus tearing down to the ring...Alas.

I agree that they missed out on not following through on Barrett's claim that he would win the Battle Royal. He could have ordered them one at a time to eliminate themselves. "Tarver! Step over the top rope! Sheffield! Step over the top rope! Gabriel, 450 from the turnbuckle to the floor!"

Biggest waste of the night: Percy's seeming heel turn. That segment was just confusing, and really, his heel turn needs to be signaled with an "OH NO!"

Yeah, this seemed odd. I'm not sure why the S2 rookies suddenly all wanted to beat up a pro, and it was especially odd to have happy-go-lucky Percy Watson leading the attack.

Barrett would have telepathically made those orders, of course.

I'll give them credit for actually telling a story in the midst of a battle royal that didn't revolve around a single person's quest to win. I was surprised at how much I actually enjoyed it.

Does Ashley Valance serve a purpose? Couldn't they just give Striker a personal assistant or something who could stand their and look pretty while he's talking?

Abraham Washington should file a lawsuit against Percy Watson for stealing his furniture.

Nexus is extremely lucky that Miz turned traitor because Zach Ryder was about to destroy the entire group single handedly. I think it might have been better, though, if they had beat down and tossed out The Miz and let Cody run away at the end.

I'm thinking it might be entertaining if Mark Henry made no attempt at winning the Money in the Bank match and simply focused on preventing The Miz from winning it.

Gabriel's pose on the ropes prior to the 450 makes me think he'd be an excellent candidate to play Altair if there were ever an Assassin's Creed movie. And his selling of the 450 is far better than Rob Van Dam's selling of the frog splash. Gabriel looks like he just hit a move with tremendous impact. RVD looks like a bee stung him in the nuts on his away across the ring.

The definitely missed out on the ending. I don't think it should have involved Barret giving orders, though. Everyone else should have simply and simultaneously eliminated themselves to show solidarity of purpose.

It was obvious that it was a trick when Barrett said it would be everyone for themselves.
A "us six against you guys fighting one another" would've been a no-go.

I loved the various beatdowns around the ring, and yes, Slater threw some heavy looking punches in there. Pretty cool.

No clue why the season 2 rookies did what they did, maybe we'll get some explanation but it seemed lame to me.
At least Percy sorta apologized and MVP said he could've seen it coming.
Perhaps it will lead to them having to sign a contract saying they won't bite the hand that feeds (=not become Nexus II)

Yeah, because of all this confusion and the battle lines being drawn and all that, I think this was the best episode of the season. The NeXus angle has worked wonders for Raw, at least as it involves shaking things up in an otherwise mundane show. Then tonight they actually make a battle royal interesting, something that hasn't happened since the Reagan administration (Royal Rumble matches don't count).

I can't fathom saying this normally, but I really can't wait to see what happens next week on NXT. That being said, I am worried that next week will bring a return to the normal NXT structure, thus boring me once again.

I hated it because the Pros are supposed to be helping the Rookies, and therefore there shouldn't be any battle lines to begin with. I understand the Pros attacked the Rookies to start season 2 and this may have been payback (6 weeks later), but if they keep it going as some sort of angle it's just going to get old and totally destroy what made the show so intriguing to begin with.

The Nexus is Pain? You heard it here first!

Miz should've pointed out how he was treated at first on SmackDown by JBL and others, like a reality TV star just taking up space. He and the Nexus have more in common than they think.

I wish Wade would've whispered to the announcer to declare Nexus the victory instead of the on the fly rule change.
