Recap for TNA Imapct on 7.8.2010, Taped from the Impact Zone in Orlando, FL.

Mr. Anderson opens the show with a chair in tow. He introduces Jeffrey Nero Hardy, who obliges. Anderson tells him that last week he smacked him with a chair, but didn't do it on purpose. If he'd done it on purpose he'd have told him because he's an asshole. He says the world needs more assholes. Anderson has a solution, though. Tonight, they have a match. Anderson is going to bring the chair to the match, and if either one of them uses it on the other, they'll know they have a problem. LOGIC~! Hardy is naturally confused, but claps anyway. Decent enough work. 1 for 1.

Styles is in the back, and rather disappointed. He says he will prove himself by tearing Kazarian apart. He hopes Flair is happy with the consequences.

Match 1: Kazarian and AJ Styles (#4) battled to a countout in 6 minutes. It was good while it lasted as they got a decent amount of time. 2 for 2. Post match, Flair comes out to put a stop to all this and tells them to "stop dicking around." He asks if they want to be part of Fortune. He says they will tag at Victory Road and they'll be sorry if they lose.

Backstage, Angelina Love is topless! With her back to the camera, boo urns. That's it. No, really. Well, she has a match coming up. But stripping as match preparation? I dunno.

Match 2: Angelina Love (with top) over Daffney via Lights Out in 2 minutes. Squash-tastic. 2 for 3. Post match, Love proclaims that Rayne "doesn't have the balls to come out here." I certainly hope not. I like Madison Rayne fine without balls, thank you. Madison proves her wrong by showing up. Maybe she does have balls. Ew. Rayne says Love has underestimated her. Rayne says she's putting the title on the line, but what's Angie putting on the line? "Those fake fun bags?" I'm not so sure they're fake, to be honest. Rayne says Love should put her title on the line. Love is ok with that, but then says that there's an added stip - if the rest of the BP get involved, Madison is DQ'd and the title goes to Love. Madison seems not to care.

Backstage, someone asks Devon what he's going to say to Ray, but he's not putting his cards on the table just yet.

Devon is in the ring with Ink Inc. He wants to sort this all out and calls Ray. Ray stands on the ramp, while Devon says he doesn't get it. Ray interviewed Neal into their school, and Neal has shown nothing but respect. Devon puts Neal over for his Navy career and brings up the death of his best friend. He again emphasizes that Neal has basically done nothing wrong, and so he asks, what the hell is Ray's problem with him. Ray says he doesn't answer to him because he's the leader of Team 3D. He says his problem was only with Neal, but now it's with Devon because he's a disloyal ("unloyal" according to Ray), disrespectful partner. Devon says he doesn't choose sides. Ray says he will have to at Victory Road, because it's going to be Ray v Neal v Devon. He says Team 3D will go on, or end that night. Strong promo work from Team 3D, but I find it so hard to care about them. Still, good work is good work. 3 for 4.

Match 3: Rob Van Dam over Samoa Joe via backflip rollup in 11 minutes. Fantastic TV Match. 4 for 5. Post match, Joe kills the ref with a Muscle Buster. Well, that's one way to vent your frustration.

Kurt Angle says he thrives on pressure. He also has advice for Hardy - watch your back.

Match 4: Ladder Match: Jeremy Buck over Douglas Williams via X Retrieval in 4 minutes. Four-minute ladder matches do nothing for me. This booking decision is a little shady, too. They wanted to establish that Williams is afraid of heights, but there's no reason for him to cleanly lose to a no-name lower midcarder. 4 for 6.

The MCMGs make fun of Beer Money. (youtube.com)

Match 5: Beer Money and Matt Morgan over The Motor City Machine Guns and Hernandez (Roode pins Shelley - rollup) in 6 minutes. Hernandez and Morgan brawled to the back prior to the finish. The match was too short to mean anything, but it was still decent. 5 for 7.

The Pope reminds us that Anderson was basically the reason that he's on the shelf. He gives Hardy the same message that Angle gave him.

Kevin Nash is less than pleased because he has to wait for Eric Bischoff. Hogan runs into him, saying that Nash took advantage of their friendship to land contracts for Hall and "X-Pac." Nash brings up the Nasty Boys and Hogan admits that "my guys" just didn't work out, but Nash's guys used up all their chances a long time ago. He tells Nash there's nothing he can do for him. Interesting.

Jay Lethal comes out and puts over his match with Flair at Victory Road. He says it ripped his heart out to see Flair attack his brother, and he's going to rip HIS heart out at the PPV. He says his mother has been ill, but he's going into the PPV to make her proud and will always have her in his heart. Flair comes out tell him that he doesn't give a rat's ass about Lethal's mother. What an ass. Flair says Lethal's mom wants to be with HIM! Flair says nobody knows him, he's crazy. He calls Lethal a punk from New Jersey who doesn't belong in the ring. He says Lethal has three days to think about it - Flair is not human, is a God! Flair says there are hospitals around the country who want his body parts to see what makes him go. That is imaginative. Flair says in three days Lethal is going to look god in the eye and get his ass handed to him. Three days. Super-serious Lethal is not very good, but Flair was FANTASTIC tonight. I could not possibly care less about their match, but boy that was some promo. 6 for 8.

Match 6: Jeff Hardy over Mr. Anderson via Twist of Fate in 3 minutes. Yes, that main event was three minutes. Pretty pathetic. 6 for 9. Post match, Abyss attacks with his nail board, and fights off both Anderson and Hardy. Abyss tries to kill Anderson with the nails but his board is stuck in the turnbuckle. The opportunity allows Anderson to get the chair, but Hardy is in the way. Anderson tells him to move and waffles Abyss with it. Van Dam attacks with a chair-assisted Van Daminator to put Abyss down for the time being. The faces all shake hands, but Anderson gets in Van Dam's face, and that's how we're going to finish today. Postmatch stuff warrants a 'hit' on it's own, a good way to continue the Abyss/RVD/Hardy/Anderson saga. 7 for 10.

Wrestling Counter: 32 minutes.

The Score: 7 for 10: Another solid go-home show, and this one with a surprising amount of wrestling on it. They did a nice job advancing all the major stories, even though the main event was awfully short. The first half of the show had some fantastic wrestling, and a candidate for TNA's free TV match of the year. This is a good example of how TNA flourishes when they let their talent do what they do best. No ECW, no Abyss overkill, no Bischoff, no Sting, no Dixie, all of which is fantastic. Enjoyable top-to-bottom.

Only TNA could make a throwaway, non-title Ladder Match, just to make it seem like a generic match.

But aside from that, I really have no other complaints from tonight's show (well, besides the Knockouts). RVD/Samoe Joe was PPV-quality and Jay Lethal cut an awesome, awesome promo. And that MCMG segment was the best thing I've seen from TNA in weeks.

I actually have a good feeling about a TNA PPV for once.

Wow, really good show tonight. Lots of wrestling, no dumb stuff. (I'm a little surprised u2bc's counter is only 32 minutes -- it felt like more. I didn't spend much time FFWDing at all.)

Yeah, Joe vs. RVD was a great TV match. Joe looked like a BEAST -- RVD is one of the ideal people to sell his offense (and vice versa, maybe -- did you see the sweat fly of Joe's face when RVD kicked him in the head?) -- and RVD's win was flukey enough to not be definitive.

I am VERY interested in their upcoming (I'm sure) PPV match -- it should be great. I mean, I'm sure some people will complain that TNA threw away a "first ever" dream match, but I'm MORE interested in seeing a PPV match than I would have been before.

If Amos still thinks that Joe's not getting a push, I dunno what to say. Who knows if it'll be sustained, but this is the best Joe's looked in a LONG time.

I am amused by the gimmick of "Tommy Dreamer and the Three 'R's" -- a bunch of guys who just can't make it to the arena on time -- but I don't feel a need to see any of them in the ring again, honestly.

She was changing for her match. She takes off her "street clothes" tank top, then she picks up one wrestling top and regards it; puts it down and picks up another, which she ends up wearing for the match. It's not too opaque, but neither you nor the 411 recapper got it -- maybe you were distracted?

It's weird that they decided, at the eleventh hour, that they had to establish that Doug Williams is scared of heights. They could've done that during the actual PPV, but I guess they thought...that the intrigue would sell more buys? I'd find it a little more intriguing if they'd established, in addition, that Kendrick's incapable of getting a submission hold to work.

MCMG are SO GOOD. It's foolish of me, but I'm predicting a win for them on Sunday.

I gotta go with Falsie on this, I thought Lethal's promo was good. He's a sweet kid and it shows. Flair was INSANE, and I like that he's dangerous not because he's a great wrestler anymore but because he's a CRAZY OLD MAN. I don't like the idea enough to want to see him wrestle, though.

That main event was really...abrupt, huh? But I do love Abyss' nailboard -- it looks way more horrific than a baseball bat wrapped in barbed wire, and the way he ripped off the turnbuckle pad with it was great.

Victory Road looks solid.

Not to point out a logic gap in wrestling (!), but Doug Williams won the tag titles in a ladder match.

Great show though, probably the best Impact since the one RVD won the title on.

I just don't see Joe winning a bunch of meaningless, motiveless matches then jobbing to the champ on free TV as a serious push. He's getting airtime, but he's got no direction, no real mic time....I have no idea what it is he wants, if he's a face or a heel...it feels like they're just keeping him occupied because they don't really know what to do with him.

Joe didn't job to RVD, he lost sure, but it was not a job. A job is what Daffeny did last night. Joe had a great back and forth match then lost due to his intensity of not releasing the hold. I thought he came off looking great. I thought from what I saw everyone looked great last night and I wish my finical situation was better, because this looks like a great PPV. I am curious who Kaz/Styles will face at the PPV, probably Joe and Wolfe for a shot to join Fortune. I think the Fortune storyline has helped everyone step up their game. It gives Flair time to do what he does best now, promos. It gives everyone from low card like Jay to main eventers like AJ something to work around. This is working out far better then MEM and to some regards Nexus since no one has been fired or sent to another country, yet.

That was shaping up to be a great show until the slightly disappointing ending. How did that main event get 3 minutes? I guess the idea was to get over the PPV 4-way, but it seems they could do a little better than that. But we got several solid matches, and an outstanding (Joe/RVD) match, and that's all I could ever ask for. And not much crap, which is always a bonus with TNA.

If they could book shows like this every week, it would do wonders for the company.

This was the first full Impact I've watched in a very long time, and it was pretty solid top to bottom. Keep it up TNA.

And did anybody else laugh as hard as I did at Nash's situation? You're still begging for Scott Hall's job back? Seriously? Weren't you doing this ten years ago in WCW? It's almost sad.

I don't know where they could possibly go with this since Hall blew his 63rd chance to prove himself, so I doubt he'll be coming back for any type of payoff. TNA, use your TV time to forward angles that can realistically have an in-ring payoff.

Negative rant over, I really enjoyed the rest of the show.

Having been a Kennedy hater almost from the start, I admit he's looking much better these days.

My major TNA complaint is the banshee they apparently hired to randomly scream during every segment, including intense staredown promos.

Thank you! This has been bugging me for weeks. I think it is more likely a fan trying to get noticed on TV. I could see TNA paying for someone to scream during matches, but this broad screams like that for the ring announcer.

It might be wishful thinking, but I'm wondering if Hogan and Bischoff have lost some clout since the whole "Monday Night War" debacle. There definately seems to be a tonal shift in the shows.

Most of the matches were pretty good, I liked Flair's promo, and the MCMG bit. But as much as I like Daffney, holy God that match against Angelina Love was just brutal to watch.

Ditto - sounds like a reputable organization worthy of my support.

As a person relatively unfamiliar with MCMG, do they have other funny promos like that?

Totally forgot to set the DVR so I only caught the last half hour.

I'm hoping that MCMG's win the tag titles this Sunday but I like Beer Money too, so I won't be upset either way. I'm still shocked at why they don't like them talk more - Alex Shelly definitely sounds very Shawn Michael-ish in his promos and it's a shame that they're not allowed to do more besides guest commentate for random Xplosion web matches.

The four way has really been built up pretty good even though I really don't care about Abyss at all (though I'm happy he's not doing the Hogan schtick anymore). I had to laugh when the referee took the nail board, though. He make this big deal about grabbing it and leaving the ring only to set it down right on the ramp outside of the ring. That was awfully smart.

I feel the same way. Sure he's getting out there but he doesn't seem to have any direction, at all. Hopefully this thing with RVD will fix that, though.

I'm still shocked that Pope can come back from a three month injury and automatically be #8 in the rankings. The Angle stipulation was so stupid to announce, too, since that pretty much makes it a lock that he'll win.

Eric Bischoff posted on his Facebook that he'll be missing the next set up tapings so we should be good for another couple of Eric Bischoff-less weeks of Impact too, which is always welcome (unless they do some pre-taped stuff). :)

Yes. They don't get much mic time but when they do they shine. Alex Shelley is one of the most charisimatic wrestlers around. TNA has really wasted him the past few years.

For the most part this was a really really good show. There was stuff that annoyed me like having Love putting her career on the line like an idiot. Then you have a random ladder match out there. I loved the RVD-Joe Match. Joe looked like a beast and it was given a good amount of time for a TV match. I don't think he came out of the match looking bad or weak. I still wish they would have saved The match up for BFG. I'm not really into the whole Team 3D-Jessie Neal storyline but I gotta admit the Mic work has been tremendous and last night was no different. I liked the Flair-Lethal promo. Flair has been cutting better promos lately and it's good to hear Lethal cut a serious promo and a good one at that. I liked the Styles-Kaz match too. The MCMG are awesome as are Beer Money and I'd love to see them feud for the next 3-4 months. I see them stealing the show on Sunday. I like how TNA doesn't go to commercials in the middle of matches especially the longer ones. Seeing Raven and Stevie in the crowd and Raven not smacking Stevie around is a bit disconcerting. Rhino looks bigger than ever. I hate seeing Daffney being squashed. Sure the right person went over that but how bout a competitive match? I expect Velvet to turn on Madison at Victory Road. The Main Event was ridiculously short.

TNA rarely, if ever, gives 11 minutes to a non main event match on TV. I don’t think that was by accident. While it does seem like Joe doesn't have a true direction right now, he beat AJ last week, and put on (according to Tenay and Taz) a classic match with the champ this week in one of the longer TV matches in recent memory. I think when the storylines reshuffle after Victory Road, Joe will be right in the thick of things. If we must complain about a guy being poorly used, there is always Desmond Wolfe for us to agree on.

Pope is still #8 because, apparently, he is pimping. That’s the only reason I can come up with.

Oh, I'm optimistic about Joe, don't get me wrong. I'm hoping the trend just leads to a nice storyline (I think part of the problem is that he hasn't really talked yet so we haven't had any closure to that awful kidnapping angle to let us move on from). The one complaint about RVD/Samoa Joe is that I wish I had remembered to set my DVR so I could watch it! I'll just wait until they post it on SpikeTV.com, though.

I'm all for complaining about Desmond Wolfe and his lack of a push, though. :)

It wasn't, though it wasn't the original plan. The Observer said they were told they were getting only 4 or 6 minutes and both complained about it, thinking it way too short for a match between them. TNA took out a segment where they challenged each other to set up the match and gave the match that extra time.
