Our long national nightmare is over.
Was this Jim Gray's revenge for Kobe cheating on him a few years ago in the Colorado hotel?
Now, ESPN can go back to its traditional mission: Brett Favre is coming back...no, he's retiring....no, he's coming back, but he's contemplating retirement.

The video of his jersey being burned in Cleveland seemed to have freaked him out.

Don't forget Art Modell. I'm guessing they will be added security in Cleveland when Miami comes in town.

Look at the bright side the Boys/Girls club made some money of this event tonight.

I like it. Everyone bellyaching about this is a hypocrite who needs to get over themselves. He's taking less money (in contract terms, anyway) than he could've to go for a team he thinks can win - where's the problem?

And don't give me this "he owes Cleveland"-nonsense. The Cavs were LUCKY to get the #1 pick in that draft. LeBron didn't go to college, so he's never said "where do I want to be?" and made it happen until now. I don't begrudge him one thing.

And also, please don't give me the "ESPN show makes it worse"-nonsense. Would a press conference be any better? *picture LeBron holding a Heat jersey with "JAMES" across the back* That would've been somehow LESS insulting that this? At least we don't have the press conference THEN the ESPN interview - LeBron did it all at once.

You think?

I am thinking a vuvuzela giveaway will be in order for those games, but won't happen for obvious reasons.

Things I Saw On Twitter After The Decision:

I wonder if Erick Spoelstra has gotten the call yet informing him that he wants to spend more time with his family.

So the Knicks sending Isiah Thomas to talk to Lebron didn't work. I DID NOT EXPECT THAT.

The Heat getting Lebron and Bosh will probably cut down on Joel Anthony's late-game touches, huh?

Yo I just bought a 7 bedroom mansion in cleveland for $723 and a pair of low top gucci sneakers........

I just googled cleveland & google said no matches found the city has disappeared

I googled cleveland it said "man fuck you"

(BTW, this is the best thing to happen to the NBA. Every league needs it's Yankees/Duke/Patriots/Cowboys for the country to hate and now they have it. NO ONE outside of Miami will cheer for this team now.)

Kevin Kelly: "Mr. Austin, would you like to comment on Wade Keller's Take that endorsing the XFL hurts your anti-authority character?"

Steve Austin: "Oh shit, he actually said that? I thought the boys in the back were ribbing me!"

Kelly: "No, he really said that. Did they tell you the part about you sitting in the stands, looking all skeptical?"

Austin: "AHAHAHAHAHAHA. Yeah... oh man that was too much."

That was a pretty tacky moment, in what was a really weird hour. ESPN was reaching on that one.

Edit: Is it even possible for Lebron, Wade or Bosh to win an MVP anymore? Probably not.

He sure did, and every one of them (including Rodman) knew MJ was the Alpha Dog and he would have the ball in crunch time unless he deemed someone else worthy of the shot (Kerr - once) and usually out of necessity from being triple teamed (and sometimes not even then).

I'd say it'll be interesting to see if Wade/LBJ can co-exist like that, but this probably killed any chance of me coming back to the NBA from my Sonic exile (although if John Wall or DeMarcus Cousins get off to hot starts all bets are off - I loved those guys at UK).

I feel bad for the Cleve, and wish their fans good luck moving on.

My cousin from Cleveland sent me a text after announcement that just started with "Ohio just died..."

Deadspin sums up everything wrong with LeBron James perfectly (if a bit crassly):

LeBron is now the guy you openly root against. If he leaves Cleveland tomorrow night, he'll have needlessly strung along an entire fanbase and given them the middle finger by making their breakup spectacularly public. If he stays, he'll have spent two years cockteasing the rest of the world about going somewhere else when he probably never wanted to leave Ohio to begin with. There's no end result tomorrow that makes LeBron a sympathetic figure. He's already gone past the point of no return. He's a cocksucker. Fitting that his most memorable career moment will come when he doesn't even take a fucking shot. He's a guy that cares more about the end result of playing basketball – massive, unending adulation – than he does actual basketball.

I don't begrudge him that attitude. I'd be the same way if I were a basketball player. All I'd give a shit about would be what I make and where I'm drinking tonight. And I don't begrudge him the right to play somewhere other than Cleveland. It's Cleveland. It blows. There's nothing to do in that town except masturbate and cry. But there's a normal way of doing things, and there's the dick way of doing things, and making your own free agency a two-year drama capped off with an infomercial directed by Senor Spielbergo falls squarely in the purview of FLAMING FUCKING DICK MOVES. James is trying to bullshit the world into believing this whole process is some great entertainment he's lavishing upon you. It's not. It's a con. Right now, a lot of people aren't buying the shit this man is selling. And really, that's all LeBron James is these days: a fucking salesman.

With that said, I still don't think they come any better than 3rd in the East. Boston and Orlando are incredibly deep, and Miami couldn't get depth if they wanted to. Here's the big difference between Boston's big 3 and Miami's big 3. Boston had dependable bench players who led them to the title: James Posey, Tony Allen, Glen Davis, guys who could PLAY. Miami has no one to fill their bench...literally. And what happens when they don't win the title this year? If the Knicks land Carmelo Anthony and Tony Parker, the Heat end up in 4th place. Three guys can't win by themselves and LeBron won't have anyone to blame but himself when he's 31 with bad knees and no titles.

And as for ESPN, who enabled this circus from start to finish, I can't wait to see what they come up with to kill time before the NEXT big circus they create: Brett Favre Retirement (?) Episode IV: An Old Dope.

I think James had a better chance of winning a title staying in Cleveland than he does with this farce of a team Miami looks to be building. Three massive egos and a bunch of league minimum guys? Sounds like a recipe for playoff embarrassment to me.

Miami was the worse of the places he could have gone. He could;

- Be the man who saved sports in Cleveland.
- Be the man who saved NY basketball.
- Be the man who made the Nets relevant.
- Be the man who could possibly compete with the legacy of Jordan in Chicago, and have a better supporting cast.
- Be the man who was brave enough to join the Paper Clips and compete with Kobe.

IMHO all of those were better options.

You'd think the Heat would have learned from the Tampa Bay Lightening about giving all the money to three guys.

Oh.....and if the Cavs win the title next year then perhaps the issue wasn't the supporting cast but of Lebron himself (EWING THEORY)..

Up on Cavs.com, and I'm going to quote here before Stern has the website taken offline or something

    Dear Cleveland, All Of Northeast Ohio and Cleveland Cavaliers Supporters Wherever You May Be Tonight;

As you now know, our former hero, who grew up in the very region that he deserted this evening, is no longer a Cleveland Cavalier.

This was announced with a several day, narcissistic, self-promotional build-up culminating with a national TV special of his "decision" unlike anything ever "witnessed" in the history of sports and probably the history of entertainment.

Clearly, this is bitterly disappointing to all of us.

The good news is that the ownership team and the rest of the hard-working, loyal, and driven staff over here at your hometown Cavaliers have not betrayed you nor NEVER will betray you.

There is so much more to tell you about the events of the recent past and our more than exciting future. Over the next several days and weeks, we will be communicating much of that to you.

You simply don't deserve this kind of cowardly betrayal.

You have given so much and deserve so much more.

In the meantime, I want to make one statement to you tonight:

"I PERSONALLY GUARANTEE THAT THE CLEVELAND CAVALIERS WILL WIN AN NBA CHAMPIONSHIP BEFORE THE SELF-TITLED FORMER ‘KING’ WINS ONE"

You can take it to the bank.

If you thought we were motivated before tonight to bring the hardware to Cleveland, I can tell you that this shameful display of selfishness and betrayal by one of our very own has shifted our "motivation" to previously unknown and previously never experienced levels.

Some people think they should go to heaven but NOT have to die to get there.

Sorry, but that's simply not how it works.

This shocking act of disloyalty from our home grown "chosen one" sends the exact opposite lesson of what we would want our children to learn. And "who" we would want them to grow-up to become.

But the good news is that this heartless and callous action can only serve as the antidote to the so-called "curse" on Cleveland, Ohio.

The self-declared former "King" will be taking the "curse" with him down south. And until he does "right" by Cleveland and Ohio, James (and the town where he plays) will unfortunately own this dreaded spell and bad karma.

    Just watch.

    Sleep well, Cleveland.

Tomorrow is a new and much brighter day....

I PROMISE you that our energy, focus, capital, knowledge and experience will be directed at one thing and one thing only:

DELIVERING YOU the championship you have long deserved and is long overdue....

    Dan Gilbert
    Majority Owner
    Cleveland Cavaliers

Man, you are so right. Miami was the single worst team in the NBA to sign with. He should have signed with the Knicks. He would have been a LEGEND if he won a title there. In Miami, he will be Pippen to Wade's Jordan. They guy who NEEDED someone else to win a title. I feel bad for him. I think Wade and Bosh mindfucked him into thinking this was a good idea and no one in LeBron's posse had the balls to tell him this was a bad idea. What a waste. The guy had a chance to go down as one of the all time greats. Now, he will just be another guy in the top 50 all time. Never a legend.

And count me in as believing Miami will only be lucky to win one title.

It will be interesting to see if there are any player/early outs in his contract.

Life is hilariously cruel.

I'm glad to see how well he's doing this year. Seems like he (as well as Lebron and a few others)is among the few likeable players in the NBA.
