When I heard "controlled substance" that was the very last thing I would have thought. What a maroon.

Can we put him in the NFL's Moron Hall of Fame, along with Onterrio "Whizzinator" Smith?

MD: You have to win, no matter what.
SC: Why didn't you try that this year?

Maybe I'm a bad person but when I saw the headline, I thought "grape soda? Since when is that illegal?"

It's been going downhill for JaMarcus pretty much since draft day 2007. Worra douche-nozzle.

Were it not for him I may never have known codeine syrup was purple though, so for that I should be grateful.

There was discussion on NFL Live on ESPN about whether Russell is now the biggest draft bust of all time. I don't follow the draft closely enough to go in-depth, but at the very least a guy who actually played more than one season in the NFL should be above a guy who burned out in weeks. Therefore, Ryan Leaf seems to me to be a bigger bust than Russell.

Jamarcus has only 4 more NFL starts than Leaf.

While I admit that I thought Leaf played less than what he did, a quick look at the stats shows this:

Russell- 18 TDs, 23 INTs
Leaf- 14 TDs, 30 INTs

Russell might have been the number one pick, but he at least played better than Leaf, so I can't see him being the bigger bust of the two.

Welcome home, men of the 2nd Bn, 127th Infantry, 32d "Red Arrow" Brigade, WI Army National Guard! Job well done in Iraq!

ESPN'S "Outside the Lines" had a nice video piece on the "purple drank" the other day.

Sadly, Packers DL Johnny Jolly has been in trouble for this same thing for awhile now...his case is just taking forever to wind its way through the courts.

We might miss Aaron Kampman even more this year...

Laurence Phillips. Way more potential than Leaf or Russell, and a ton more off the field problems.

I'm still trying to figure out where the inclusion of Sprite and Jolly Ranchers fits in the sad vs. hilarious continuum.

But everyone except Dick Vermeil knew Phillips was trouble waiting to happen.
