The Recap for TNA Impact on 6.24.2010, taped from the Impact Zone in Orlando, FL.

Hogan opens the show while talking about TNA gathering so much horsepower than everyone can hear it. Then he announces a four-way at Victory Road because of the non-finish in last week's main event. Abyss interrupts him as soon as that match is announced and Hulk greets him by calling him his "blood brother." He wonders what the hell happened last week. Abyss says we don't understand the severity of the situation. The only reason he did everything is because "they" told him to. Oh god, not another mystery! Why can't people have their own reasons for once? Anyway, they are coming and are gonna be here sooner than anyone realized. Abyss says they're gonna take over TNA and no one can stop them. Hogan tells him to cut the crap, but Abyss won't listen. He says they told him he doesn't need the fans or Hogan, or Hogan's ring. Abyss attacks Hogan and shoves his ring in his mouth and then gently chokes him. He gets a bag full of glass but RVD interrupts. RVD gains the momentary upper hand but eats a powerbomb. Anderson attacks Abyss with a chair, but he mostly no-sells. RVD, Anderson, and Hogan bail while Abyss tells the camera that they are coming. If this is another invasion angle, this will go nowhere fast. On its own, this segment was decent enough, with Abyss adding enough ambiguity that it could be called delusion later. 1 for 1.

Backstage, Hogan and Bischoff discuss who's gotten into Abyss's head. Bischoff suspects Flair, but Hogan can't buy that.

Elsewhere, Madison Rayne tells Velvet Sky to snap out of it before she winds up getting carried out of the arena on a stretcher.

Match 1: Velvet Sky over Angelina Love via DQ (DDT on Chair) in 4 minutes. Similar to last week's match, and now Velvet's out of the picture. Madison Rayne comes out to jaw with Angie. The announcers note that Madison seems more concerned with Love than her own partners. 2 for 2.

Backstage, Jay Lethal meets his brother, who's excited because Jay is going to be facing Flair. They talk about how "mommy and daddy" are going to be so proud.

Backstage, Eric Young and Kevin Nash discuss Scott Hall. Nash says he has no choice; he has to distance himself from Hall. He says he's doing Young a favor.

Matt Morgan's out to talk about Hernandez and tells us all that he told us so. "I told you, I told you, I told you, I told...well, you weren't here, but I would've told you too!" He calls out Hernandez because he's sick of getting jumped. Hernandez is in Mexico right now, so that ain't happening. Morgan says that only proves that Hernandez sweats him. Morgan has Hernandez in a cage match at the PPV, and once he wins that, he's gonna come out tell us he told us so. Morgan's promo work continues to impress. Homicide attacks him, but gets booted in head against the post. Oops. There was no need for that attack at the end, but the rest was nice. 3 for 3.

AJ Styles catches up with Flair, asking him about some package. Flair gets pissed, saying they have a gameplan and they need to stick to it. They go off looking for someone. TNA has a bad record with such things, so the jury's out on this.

Match 2: Jay Lethal over Kazarian via Lethal Injection in 5 minutes. "Lethal Injection" is the new name for the wheelbarrow neckbreaker. Postmatch, AJ and Flair beat the crap out of Lethal's brother backstage. Match was ok. 4 for 4.

Match 3: Jeff Jarrett v Sting: Sting doesn't show up when his music plays, instead he's up in the rafters. Jarrett goes after him but it's fake Sting and the real one's waiting in the ring. After a brawl, fake Sting and Jarrett wind up in the ring before Jarrett realizes he's going after the wrong guy. Genius. The real Sting chokes him out with a baseball bat. He says "if you walk with them, you're going to go down with them." 4 for 5.

Match 4: Kurt Angle (#10) over Desmond Wolfe (#9) via Ankle Lock in 7 minutes. The result was hardly ever in doubt but it got time and for that I'm happy. It goes to show how horribly TNA have dropped the ball with Des Wolfe though. 5 for 6. Chelsea smiles approvingly and Angle challenges #8.

Douglas Williams is in the ring, and he puts over Brian Kendrick for putting him in a submission that he couldn't escape from. I keep wanting to type "THE Brian Kendrick." Williams wants to re-educate the X Division in the art of professional wrestling so he challenges Kendrick to a match. Kendrick comes out and announces an Ultimte X match at Victory Road which can also end in submission. Williams says they should now go their separate ways and settle their differences at the PPV and then attacks him from behind. HEEL STRATEGERY! Kendrick is one step ahead of him, though, so Williams winds right back into that submission. I like both guys, and I like Williams' promo work, but Kendrick's doped-out smart-thinker act does nothing for me. 5 for 7.

Abyss says that they told him to destroy everything that gets in his way. He will pave the way for them and nothing can stop them.

Backstage, Shannon Moore is beating up on Brother Ray while Jesse Neal is laid out by his side. Security pulls him off, and Devon stops by to berate Ray for making a fool out of him at the PPV. He tells him to leave the kid alone and not test Devon's patience. Devon was appropriately intense here, but I care so little about this feud.

Match 5: Beer Money, Inc. over Ink Inc via pin (DWI on Neal after Beer Spit) in 6 minutes. Moore went at it alone until Neal wobbled out halfway through. Machine Guns were on commentary and Raven, Dreamer, and Richards in the crowd. Overall there is nothing wrong with this, but there's just too much going on at once. 5 for 8.

AJ Styles and Kaz are bickering before AJ gets his package, which contains his new action figures. Kaz tells him to go play with himself, and AJ walks off, presumably to do just that. I get it now why Flair was so pissed at the mention of the package.

Match 6: Falls Count Anywhere: Abyss over Mr. Anderson via Black Hole Slam in 8 minutes. Wow, this match did absolutely nothing for me. Abyss keeps attacking him postmatch and tries to throw him off the stage, but Anderson fights him off. Mic Check is countered, however, and Abyss sends him careening off the stage and through a platform. Hogan attacks with a chair, but it doesn't have much of an impact on Abyss. Security comes between them to ensure a standoff. The weak match combined with a rehash of last week's finish makes this a miss. 5 for 9. And on that note, we end the show.

Wrestling Counter: 30 minutes.

The Score: 5 for 9: A pretty typical TNA show, a solid outing marred by a few typically boneheaded decisions. The main event didn't deliver, and we didn't really get any real development on the Abyss storyline other than another lame invasion/delusion/higher power angle. Angle/Wolfe was the best match on the show but every time I see Des I think of how they're wasting his considerable talent.

Ok, they're trying be a little too cute with the Ultimate X stipulations at the PPV. I get the story and what they're trying to do, but having a ladder match that can end in a submission sounds really dumb. I really wish they'd pick one or the other.

They've had a week to give a good explanation for the illogical Abyss heel turn and the best they could do was "they told me to"? It'd better be a hell of a "they", because this angle's weak sauce right now. I did get some enjoyment out of Abyss shoving the ring down Hogan's throat, though.

I could have gone the rest of my life without ever seeing another fake Sting. And is Jarrett really THAT dumb that he brawls with a guy for a good couple of minutes before it hits him that maybe it's not really Sting?

Perhaps it was the Noid who should have avoided me.

I thought it was a decent show. The discouraging part of TNA is I do believe they have a better mid-card then WWE right now and have more interesting storylines like AJ/Flair/Kaz/Lethal, Williams' old school grabbling in the X-Division, Morgan/Hernandez, Kurt's quest to be number one and Love's violent destruction of the Beautiful People. I am even enjoying the backstage stuff since it adds some drama and furthers storylines. I think TNA's backstage stuff looks more real and thought out then WWE right now. Hogan/Bischoff trying to go through the list of who "They are" was actually quite interesting. It adds another dimension to the show instead of the ridiculous backstage interviews.

The rest of the program is just ok or unwatchable. Turning Abyss heel makes sense since it obviously leads to Hogan vs. Abyss match at Bound for Glory where hopefully Hogan does the job. Sting/Jarrett has gone for too long. I can guess who the "They" are Abyss keeps mentioning, but an ECW faction in TNA makes no sense. The Tag division in shambles until the next PPV. The rest of the Knockouts seem to disappear at whim, they tried making a bid deal out of Rosie, yet she is nowhere to be seen. ODB quit, Daffeny is supposed to come back soon and Sarita/Wilde are MIA. They need to refocus on a number of areas and wrestlers after the PPV. Desmond Wolfe should be one of them, either keep Chelsey are not, its time for him to move on and get some wins to make a title run. Pope needs to show up as well.

The show has too many stars right now and I hate to say it, but maybe some pink slips might be in order just to streamline the show or convince Spike to give them another hour for the X-Division and/or Knockouts. Of course, Spike just canned their other show for Jail, so who knows what they are thinking right now. After the PPV in a few weeks, hopefully they can figure out where they want to go with some of these people if not then cut bait.

So six months after Hogan and Bischoff took over from Jeff Jarrett and Mick Foley, someone ELSE is going to come in and run rampant? I'm guessing it's going to be not-ECW, probably with Mick and maybe Heyman in tow. Whoopee. It's probably best not to run a lukewarm invasion angle when the company you see as your competition is doing likewise, and doing it bloody well.

From an inside perspective the Abyss heel turn is justifiable, but there is literally no logical storyline reason for him to suddenly turn on the guy who's initiated his career resurgence.

You realise that, when the pink slips do start raining down, it's going to be the X-Division and Knockouts who take the brunt of it? TNA isn't going to add another hour or whatever for the two divisions that they obviously don't care about.

Shannon Moore is beating up on Brother Ray

I reread this, and it still says something I can't fathom.

As long as it involves Heyman getting the book, I am (probably) fine with whatever they come up with.

Abyss has long been established as mentally unstable and easily manipulated. Makes perfect sense to me. And I will take this monster over the babbling retard we have had for the last year. Anyone that saw what Abyss could do in 2004-2006 has to be happier with this than the previous incarnation.

Angelina as a face doesn't cut it for me. As the head of the BP, she was awesome, but this bland, blond face does nothing for me. She's their version of John Morrison.

dX didn't invade WWF. It was a faction of existing WWF wrestlers who "broke the rules".

EDIT: I'd also say that, by late 1997, the nWo rose was most definitely wilting, if not toally dead.

Good to know we've got the ulimatate insider back that knows all and sees all and knows who is getting fired and when. Lets wait a few weeks before calling the whole NXT thing the greatest angle in wrestling history. I know in your mind it's already bigger than The NWO but lets wait a little while. Btw rumors are that Spike is adding XPlosion to the Thursday night line up. So yeah they are doing that. Remember when you predicated that Christian didn't really do much to Edge on Smackdown because they were building to a big match for the title down the line? Well three days later Christian jobbed to Edge and is still a midcarder on Smackdown.

Can't say I loved the show. Wolfe Vs Angle was good but I'd rather see it get ten more minutes on ppv. Wolfe has been booked terribly since Hogan and Bisch came in.Is Pope cleared to wrestle? Beer Money went over Ink Inc and Team 3D the last two weeks but not in the strong way I'd like. Ray was distracted and Neal was hurt and they went to the trite spitting beer in the face setup. Glad to hear from The MCMG for the first time in a month. I hate that they seem to be setting up A.J as the comedic heel again ugh. MCMG Vs Beer Money could steal the show at the next ppv. I love Williams and like Kendrick b\ut as a heel. I hope Williams holds the belt until BFG at least. Gotta agree that Angie is a great heel but a crappy face much like Edge. Abyss going on a rampage is fine and there's money in a top face trying to stop the monbster heel but not if it's Hulk Hogan not in 2010 at least. The ECW stuff I have zero interest in.

I love how we have two main event angles now in Sting and Abyss where both guys are being completely vague about their motives. Makes it hard to get interested...just hope Abyss' doesn't drag on as long as Sting's.

Maybe wilted but not dead yet. The NWO stopped being a drawing card back in mid 1998 but Wcw and even the WWE went to that well numerous times after that. At least the Hogan nostaglia run made money in '02. Starcade back in 97 drew one of the highest wrestling ppv buyrates ever. It got more buys than many Wrestlemanias. What happened that night started WCWs downturn and ultimatally lead to it's death.

Hey, when I'm wrong I'm wrong. But given the exodus of Knockouts since Bisch/Hogan's arrival and the decreased prominence of the X Division belt, I'm hardly taking wild stabs in the dark here. Besides, it's always the same fucking mantra with TNA fans. "Wait til it goes primetime, then they can focus more on the good stuff", then "wait til they get that second hour, then they can focus more on the good stuff", and now it's "wait til they add a second show solely for the divisions that the internet loves, then they can focus more on the good stuff".

And I missed where I called the nXt angle the greatest thing in wrestling history or bigger than the nWo. I said it was bloody good, which it is, and - dealing in bare facts here - it's putting over seven new guys who, up until a month ago, seemed destined for the scrapheap. What's TNA countering with? An ECW invasion with guys who were broken down when McMahon first tried that angle almost ten years ago.

I never said NXT hasn't been really good a few weeks in. As far as making seven new stars well as a group they're over. I dunno if all seven will be stars. Barrett will be a pretty big star. Otunga will be given every chance to be. The other five guys? Eh I dunno. Danielson's release hurt the group. Once they have to wrestle can any of them except possibly Barrett have good to great matches? This is where Danielson being gone will hurt them the most. We're in agreement on a ECW invasion angle.

The real reason ECW failed during Invasion was Steph, hell they got giant pops as soon as they turned on Kane and Jericho as well as when they walked to the ring during the main event. It wasn't the ECW wrestlers who fucked invasion it was the McMahons. I also think secretly Vince knew they would get pops and with the WWE line-up made up of a heel Austin, Brothers of Destruction, dork Kurt and Jericho decided to throw Steph into ECW to get X-Poc heat. Heyman was a master at getting heat, so why put Steph in there? His final speech to Vince prior to Survivor Series was epic and if it had started Invasion there may not be as many people cheering for WWE as there were near the end. Invasion was fucked for a variety of reasons, but I don't blame the ECW wrestlers and if Bagwell as well as Kronic wasn't part of WCW, I wouldn't blame the WCW guys as well.

If TNA gives the book to Paul and they use Hogan as a special attraction here and there, it will be fine. Plus, the wrestlers are not that broken down. RVD is still in good shape and credible champion. Tommy had some awesome matches with Swagger and Christian last year which I don't think it was all those two. The Dudley Boys know how to work a tag match better then anyone right now. Stevie is awesome on the mic. The jury is out on Raven, Sandman and Rhyno, they can still take bumps which is really all they need to do. The question becomes will they turn RVD to help them or keep them as the traitor of the group? I am not sure which could be interesting TV. I doubt anyone of them is as broken down as Nash was in the MEM.

Tommy Dreamer had two good matches with two people generally considered to be good, and no good matches with anyone else.

The Dudleys know how to do a tag match well because they've been doing the same one for about a decade.

In a storyline where Paul Heyman (maybe), Tommy Dreamer, Raven, Taz and Brother Ray all are involved, it probably doesn't matter how well Stevie Richards speaks. He might as well be mute.

I'd argue that Richards's mic work in his various gimmicks far surpassed anything he's done in the ring.

Is this all just speculation, or is ECW the "they" that Abyss referred to? I thought the rumors of Heyman coming in had quieted, even though I hoped them to still be true.

Honestly if Heyman doesn't come in I'd had no problems with a booking team of Raven-Foley provided of course that they don't get in the ring. Foley loves Joe and The MCMG and Raven is close to Styles and is a big fan. They both have great minds and I think could book compelling stuff.
