Sorry I had to vent here but BP just does not get it. People are really suffering down here. Our environment is being destroyed, jobs are being lost and BP has not done jack $hit to help. They put out a couple of ad's claiming they care, that's about it and it's baloney. Hayward needs to be locked up.

So you're outraged that a man attended a race on a Saturday? What exactly do you think he personally can do to plug the leak? I mean he and his company are fully responsible for this but I don't get being mad cause he still has a life on a weekend.

It's a question of appearances. Maybe he can't personally swim down there and plug the well, but heading off to a yacht race, throwing around the idea of paying massive dividends while this is going on, etc. only further the image that he doesn't care. (Whether or not that's justified is another topic.)

And 12 people lost their life because of shortcuts to save money, thousands of fisherman and oyster man have no work the gulf coast losing millions by the day and no one ever See's this guy. But it is okay let him have some fun over the weekend. Is that what you are saying? I'm glad Obama is mad. Let us get some charges on them(BP) now. Not to mention what BP is paying out is not close to what these fisherman make a week/month. It was brought up in hearings over the week. Oh yeah and we know why Joe Barton was so sorry, turns out he has some money in the industry.

You mean the same Obama who was at the White Sox / Nationals game the other night?

What's happening in the Gulf is a true tragedy in every sense of the word. But I have to agree with wmatistic; anger over the mistakes BP has made is appropriate; but unless you think that the man should be literally crucified on national television, then anger over him spending some time with his family is not. At least, in my humble opinion.

...a game that was played in Washington. Slight difference, if anyone wants to go that route.

OK, I'll ask. What's the slight difference?

Thousands of miles away for Hayward/ Obama just went down the street pretty much.

So because Obama lives (currently) in Washington, it's OK for him to go to a game in Washington, but because Hayward and his family live in the U.K., it's not OK for him to go home to his family in the U.K. because that's "thousands of miles away."

Thanks for clearing that up.

OK, now you're just being silly.

You're now saying that instead of the man going home to his family and attending a sporting event with them, he should have had his family, the event, and all the spectators and participants flown in from the U.K. to Washington D.C. I can't even imagine the reasoning behind that.

Again, I get the anger, and as it regards BP's role in causing this current disaster and their handling of the aftermath, I agree that's it's all deserved. But to claim that their CEO should never be allowed to go home, should not be allowed to leave Washington D.C. (and, just exactly how does his presence in D.C. help the situation in the Gulf?) and should only see his family if they fly "thousands of miles" (to use your quote) from their homes to the capital of the United States is beyond ludicrous. And this is just for the CEO! Imagine if we were talking about the Chairman!

In my first post I made reference to literally crucifying the man. If that's where this is leading, well then, so be it. Just don't ask me to supply the wood and the nails.

"You know how much it costs for people to fly from Britain to here? Round trip? He's throwing all that money around to bring his family here. Other people can't feed their family and he's bringing his family here for what might as well be a vacation. Vacation? None of that should be allowed. he should have went over there himself and never come back".

I can see people saying stuff like this if he brought his family here.

The man is entitled to visit his family and have a bit of a life, considering he'll never have a normal life again. All the stuff you said CajunMan, will be on his mind until he dies. He's under a bit of fire and I'm sure could stand to see people who won't threaten his life.

Like the Bookie said, I get the anger. But in this case it's a bit misplaced IMHO.

Agree somewhat, But would he be safe to say he kind of doing it to himself? I mean he really did not answer the questions he was asked at the hearing the other day. Like one congressman said,"It starts from the top".

It might shock you, but he's human. Humans need to be around people, humans need to relax. And maybe, just maybe, be around loved ones who will be supportive and understanding. He's the most reviled man in the world right now, being compared to such luminaries as Bin Laden and other terrorist mutts.

Seeing his family might keep him sane enough for you and others to strip a few more hides off of him. You should be happy he went because now there's an increased chance he'll still be alive to be held accountable.

Is it the yacht thing? Would it have been better if they saw a local game of rugby? Would people object if he went and saw his kids play a school game?

I get you're upset man, and I truly feel for you and the people affected by this. You are all most definitely in my prayers. But please consider the fact he's a human being too.

Also, that whole "doing it to himself" comment....be careful when saying that, especially online. You have a Instant Rating of 0.90 on these boards. Are you ready to admit you've totally done that to yourself and that rating is totally justified?

Right. When I said he'd get blamed, I didn't mean justifiably so. There's only so much one can do, especially as a CEO, but PR is part of that job.

It is a part of his job, but this specific time was a no-win situation for him. Wouldn't have mattered what he had done, people will still think he made the wrong move.

CajunMan, I'd be more concerned if the Senator wasn't outraged at, well, everything. He needs to be reelected after all, and also needs a scapegoat.

Don't worry though, the President was on the ball today.....no literally, he went and played golf, seeming to forgot that his priority was the G-U-L-F and not G-O-L-F.

Either that or Obama was going to look for that ass to kick the same way that OJ went looking for the killer....

Admittedly I don't really care about politics, but I don't understand the big deal here.

It's human nature to want to relax when facing a stressful situation and I can't imagine it not being a picnic for either President Obama or the head of BP.

It's the weekend, anyway. Wouldn't most of the people not be at work? I'd imagine the CEO doesn't do too much about the daily operations - that's probably up to the rest of the team, right?

Maybe I'm just idealistic, but I'd like to believe that leaders of companies and governments can still focus on things while in a vacation settings. With all the advisors and everything I can't imagine it being very easy to ignore it (heck, I didn't really care for a lot of President Bush's decisions but I didn't mind when he used to leave Washington DC because I'm sure he did Presidential stuff in the other place too).

You're either implying that Obama actually poured oil into the Gulf himself or that OJ should have taken responsibility for those British bastards killing his ex-wife. I'm not sure which one would be more ridiculous. Either way, you are wrong and have some pretty dated references in your bag to boot.
