Could the answer be as Roman and Kyle have gone from greatest enemies to united against common enemies over the past few episodes? I've enjoyed that. Roman telling Kyle he would make it as an actor was especially sweet.
I just discovered and fell hard for Party Down. I wolfed down the first season and the eight episodes of the second season over the last few days. The show really spoke to me in a lot of ways. I can relate to a lot of the characters like Henry, Ron, Kyle, and Roman. Roman's line about having "a very prestigious blog" cut deep, bro. But I really appreciate the circumstances the characters find themselves in, the underlying tone of sadness, depression, and desperation of their lives, but also the dogged hope they have that things will get better and they can make it if they keep at it. "Don't stop believin'".
I feel like season one was a bit more realistic than season two, which went for more broad slapstick and surrealism (Roman drunk at the theatre with the two actors him caressing for example). I also thought the season one finale was fantastic, maybe the best episode of the series, with Kristen Bell (her return wasn't as much fun in the Party Down Company Picnic since she had much less to do until she was written off). The season two premiere was also amazing, with the commentary of the rock star wanting the normal life. That was some of the sharpest, canniest writing I've ever seen on television.
Wikipedia (bastion of accurate information that it is, though it's all I've got to go on at the moment) says Party Down was renewed for season 3 but Adam Scott is out due to joining the cast of Parks and Recreation. Ryan Hansen also has a show that was picked up. It's really hard to fathom how Party Down could exist without Henry. But at the same time, I'm kind of glad Adam Scott and Ryan Hansen got bigger network gigs out of Party Down. That falls in line with the meta-existence of the show; all of these talented people (actors, writers) doing this gig until something better comes along.
I think one of the most appealing things about Party Down is that its structured so uniquely. Every episode, the only window is that one party they work, and all the character details and story advancements come in the margins between parties and we get brought up to speed during the escalating plot hijinks. To have characters as well-defined as Henry (and Ron too, for all his wackiness) under those circumstances is really impressive. And like you said, there's a lot of real pathos and genuine sadness in these silly people who we only see in single nights of exaggerated comic situations.
Still, their strongest asset is still that they do Parties Gone Astray Intertwining Plots stories like Frasier on HGH. The local theater episode was like their own Community - Modern Warfare for comedy of errors theater. The casting for each new gig always brings in someone really good, from Tom Lennon to Andrea Savage to Lyle the Intern to GUTTENBERG. And seeing Veronica Mars reborn as a sitcom is pretty awesome too. Where's Wallace?
P.S. This interview with Adam Scott had some stuff about a potential third season along with being a generally fun read. He sez if there is a third, he was allowed to do three episodes. Though they seem to be kind of wrapping him up right now with two episodes left, he and Casey are pretty happy.

You realize you pretty much summed up The Love Boat?
I just found this show and was quickly hooked. Funny all the time, and it seems to fly by.
Fuck the Iron Island shit. I don't need another crazy religious guy seizing power, we have that in King's Landing. The High Sparrows speech hints that he seems to be in the World ruling business now. Tyrion was awseome.
