Among all 16 conference members, as opposed to just the eight football schools, the Big East stretches almost as far west (to Chicago, about 1,000 miles from the eastern-most school, UConn) as it does south (to Tampa, about 1,200 miles from UConn, which also the furthest north). And it's not as if the conference hasn't had a presence in Florida for years.
While the idea of USF in the SEC is great, I'd like them to prove they can win the Big East first. Overall, I'm thrilled that things have happened in such a way that, for now, it seems like the widely predicted demise of the Big East isn't going to happen. My only concern in the whole conference shakedown was whether USF landed in a BCS conference, and the Big East staying intact was the easiest way to assure that to be the case. Unless the Big 10 decides to pursue further expansion right now, which seems kind of unlikely to me, the Big East should be safe.
Although I loved the speculation that the Big East would seek to add the four non-Baylor Big XII schools that stood to be left in the cold (Kansas, Kansas State, Mizzou, Iowa State) had five more bolted for the Pac 10, but I doubt that was ever very realistic.
I assumed it was because FedEx is Memphis-based. Didn't know that his son is playing there. Football?

Because of the potential implications on the basketball season, Kansas playing in the Big East would absolutely break my brain. And yet, I would love to see that happen.
I am thinking Utah and then that will be the last we will hear of their program for awhile. TCU is probably mulling over going to the Big 12 to help fill the void and A&M will stay put since they know where Texas goes, they go. I have to say the Pac-10 getting another "troubled" program is probably not what they need considering the current teams and coaches. Oregon and Oregon State are having a game of which player can embrass the school enough, UCLA has Neishaul who has a history with sanctions from Colorado and USC just got bitch slapped. The SEC is starting to look like Mayberry.
I have to say this re-alignment while fun to speculate and watch as a fan has to be a giant disappointment to the Pac-10 as well as the Big Ten. The Big Ten got a big fish with Nebraska, but the one they want, Notre Dame, got away. I can see The Big Ten getting Rutgers just for the easy win value and shut Joe Pa up. Joe has been bitching about an East Coast team for years, but the reality is the east coast numbers are due to Notre Dame and other schools through out the country none of which are in the Big Ten. The Pac-10 has to have egg on their face for making a giant power grab and coming back with another problem program on the mean and maybe a big fish in a small pond with Utah. I wonder if the Big 12 and Big Ten will swap names considering the amount of teams in their conferences?
I was going to post about this story on Sunday, but I didn't post it when I couldn't quite get my thoughts together.
He had to be talking about some sort of advertising deal, right? I assume the stockholders would castigate the guy for giving money no strings attached, like the article makes it sound.
And lotjx, I haven't heard any word that Notre Dame is for sure staying put, nor have I heard that the Big Ten is definitely done expanding.
I really have to say that outside of Utah going to the Pac 10 and the Big XII grabbing two teams like Houston and TCU to get back to 12, no other expansion talks make any sense right now. The Big 10 got their 12th team, the Pac 10 would have their 12th, and no other conferences would be destroyed. Everyone would have what they need and want then. And why in the fuck would A+M go to the SEC? They'd get a 13th team and the TV market wouldn't help that much.

Big 10 always could look towards the east at some point for the New York and Baltimore/Washington TV markets to put the Big 10 network. Why A@M is attractive: That school has money. Big money.

The only two FBS schools in the Baltimore/DC market are Maryland and Navy. I can't see Maryland leaving the ACC and their Carolina basketball rivals.

None of them are FBS. At best, they could try to convince one or two to make the jump to FBS in a few years after the transition period. Also, there is no Towson State, it's just Towson University.
MD universities in Division I:
FBS: Univeristy of Maryland-College Park (ACC) Naval Academy (None, football only)
FCS: Towson (CAA) Coppin State (MEAC) Morgan State (MEAC) University of Maryland-Eastern Shore (MEAC) Mount St. Mary's (NEC) Naval Academy (Patriot League)
Division II: Bowie State (CIAA)
I didn't look up all the smaller schools in lower divisions.

I am old. That's what it was called when my friends from high school went there. Same with Salisbury State.
With Utah going to the Pac 10, I wonder if the good Senator Hatch will suddenly lose his anti-BCS fervor? And, I'm guessing it'll be California and Arizona schools in one division with the Oregon and Washington schools joining the newcomers in the other?

It's been said that Colorado was promised a spot in the "south" division, so it'll be a North/South split.
I'm not sure how Boise, Idaho is a better idea than Salt Lake City, Utah. I'd even take BYU before Boise. Boise is about as attractive as Wyoming is. Boise definitely has something going for it in terms of a national market, being in the BCS and beating Oklahoma a few years ago and all that, but their local TV market is very small and conferences look at that. Also, outside of football and basketball, what exactly does Boise play? Pac 10 plays a lot of sports outside of football and basketball, not sure how California schools and Boise, Idaho would mesh in those.
The Pac 12 would look something like Oregon, Oregon State, Washington, Washington State, Utah, Stanford California, USC, Arizona, Arizona State, Colorado, UCLA
Texas A+M going to the SEC would kill the Big 12 and make the SEC very confusing short term unless they got USF or Louisville or something.. just doesn't make sense to me.
Maryland is a founding member of the ACC and not leaving. Pitt and Rutgers are better chances for the Big 10+2's future.
But then they'd split up Cal and USC.. it might be easier just to give the division teams one set team to play from the other division every year, giving them three other division games also if it remains a 9 game schedule. You'd only miss out on playing 2 teams every year that way.
