It's actually pretty funny that they didn't take the opportunity to show Walt again, since the "we're all dead" explanation totally would explain away him showing up grown. Ah well, they probably figured it would have been too confusing.

After watching an E! Online video of Lost questions, supposedly whatever happened to Walt will be addressed on the DVDs.

This was a completely satisfying end for me, for what was probably my favorite (or second-favorite, behind "The Wire") show of all time. I thought I would be miserable once the show was off the air, and maybe I will be in the long run, but I'm still on a high from that finale. It just felt so GOOD to watch. I saw so many of the sideways-life Awakenings about to happen before they did, but instead of being upset that it might have been a little predictable, I spent most of the episode rooting for the next one to occur. The Jin and Sun and Sawyer and Juliet Awakenings were especially amazing. Oh gosh, and how could I almost forget Charlie and Claire! Those two were apart for so long, and each of their lives ended/were ending in such sadness. That was an incredibly long wait but an incredibly worthwhile payoff. TV can't really make me cry but I'll be damned if I wasn't close to it last night. A testament to how rewarding it was for people who have let the show into their lives for the past six years.

Now, a couple of questions:

1. When Jin started speaking English in the sideways world after his Awakening, did anyone else notice that it sounded more like Daniel Dae Kim speaking rather than Jin? I swear the Korean accent was 100% gone. Was that intentional? Were my ears deceiving me? And I largely point this out only because during the last few episodes of on-Island Sayid's life, I could have sworn I was hearing Naveen Andrews's accent rather than Sayid's.

2. I absolutely love the fact that Desmond has been telling us all "see you in another life, brotha" since Season f'n TWO. Something like that convinces me that the writers truly have known since the very beginning how it was all going to end.

3. It seemed there were a lot of little touches and hints throughout this last season that, in retrospect at least, were letting us know how it would end. There was Rose on the plane next to Jack all the way back in the season premiere telling Jack (after Oceanic 815 hit some heavy turbulence) that "you can let go now." And then near the end we have Locke in the hospital after his Awakening telling Jack that he has no son. Nothing major, but pretty cool in my book.

4. Finally:

Having a name was probably not to important when you were the only three alive, and Man In Black spent his smokey life taking over other people's names. There was the pre-death part where he was hanging out with the other shipwrecked people where they may have called him something, but it wasn't really his name.

I think Jacob and MiB's fake mom kept calling him things like "Brother" and "My Love" because that's the only way they ever referred to him. I don't think that's too far-fetched.

Ahem. =)

But if everyone was connected by "the most important time of their lives" (i.e. their time on the island), then Walt would've had to appear in the scene as his eight-year-old self, which - obviously - wasn't going to happen ...

I had my doubts as the finale was going along, but the final 10-15 minutes actually left me (mostly) satisfied ... I probably could have done with at least a few more questions being answered, like the Numbers (again) or exactly why the MiB couldn't have a name, but overall I'm happy with the results.

So, was the Hurley Bird a clue that Hugo was going to be the island's eventual protector?

Was Vincent lying next to Jack at the end just fan service because everyone kept asking what happened to the damn dog?

Oh, and the stained-glass window in the church during the Jack/Christian scene ... Was that the donkey wheel in the bottom left-hand corner? Was that a nod to the Island's own "religion" (where people speak Latin and worship four-toed statues)?

It was a callback to the opening scene of the pilot, where the dog is there when Jack wakes up. I think the sneaker in the tree was from that first scene too.

FWIW: They wanted to bring back Mr. Eko for the finale, he wanted five times as much as they were offering, Mr. Eko was not brought back.

I think the simple answer is that Walt's time on the island was not the most important time of his life. He got to go home relatively early on. He got to grow up and do whatever he wanted. Aaron was there because he was born on the island, and that was, as far as the show is concerned, the most important time of his life.

Remember, Walt and Michael never appeared in the flash-sideways timeline (which makes me wonder why so many people on the internet are so up in arms about them not being there at the end). Walt wasn't there because of the reasoning above, and Michael wasn't there because he's still trapped in island limbo, as he explained himself.

It must suck to be Aaron ... You live a full life (presumably), but you have to move on in your baby form because that's how the other LOSTies remember you

Oh, a couple more things:

At one point, a fallen tree apparently crushes Ben's abdomen ... but the next scene we see him in, he's apparently perfectly fine.

And how did Jack - once he saved the island - go from the bottom of the cave to that bamboo field? Is it like how the MiB's body "transported" to the outside after he fell into the light?

And, not to harp on the point, but what exactly was the Flash-Sideways universe ... Purgatory? A construct established by the collective LOSTies' consciousnesses prior to the moment of death? What about people like Keamy and the one-eyed Russian; were their "souls" really a part of the place, or were they just - for lack of a better term - "fabrications" created to help fill in the blanks (and give the actors a chance to fleetingly reprise their roles and add to their bank accounts)?

My biggest personal disappointment with the entire series is Mr. Eko (or, perhaps more accurately, the actor portraying Mr. Eko). Like many people I absolutely loved the character. But first he wants off the show after only one season, and now he demands far more money than he's probably worth, all things considered.

It's a damn shame. In his very brief stint on the island, he was already becoming legendary.

Agreed. I was all psyched to hear AAA was joining the cast since he was so cool on OZ. He can be cut some slack since apparently both of his parents passed away during his year in Hawaii, so I can understand him leaving the show in the first place. But trying to score a big payday for a cameo is a bit much.

Oh! How could I forget to ask? How exactly did Hurley (or whoever) get Boone to agree to come to LA with Shannon? Did they explain that at all? Wouldn't he have had to have his own Awakening at some point?

It looked like they re-casted Vincent and went with a new dog. This one looked a little younger than the orginal Vincent.

Also, I was glad that DisneyLand's Splash Mountain was revealed as the heart of the Island. Love that flippin' ride.

So, the Man in Black's name was Samuel (nymag.com)?

The over the credits scene of the deserted, plane littered beach was added by ABC to serve as a buffer in between the end of the show and the news and isn't supposed to be considered part of the story.

I don't remember which scene it was earlier during the show, but I remember it suddenly ended to break, and the local news team was suddenly on TV, to preview the news. They had seemingly been watching the TV waiting for their cue, and were caught totally off guard by what had just happened and missed it. After a few seconds, they remembered they were supposed to be talking. So I could see why someone figured they'd definitely need a buffer at the end.

Though maybe a less creepy "just kidding, they all died, lolz" one would've worked better.

"Samuel" was the name given when they were casting for MIB last season. They used "Jason" when they were casting for Jacob.

Kristin is the same person who saw that they were guest casting for someone named "young Tom" for last season's finale, then broke an exclusive story saying that we would be seeing a young Tom Friendly.

Don't listen to Kristin. :-)

So, from various sources, extra footage on the DVD set is said to include

- Damon Lindelof and Carlton Cuse clearing up mysteries that they couldn't answers in the narrative
- a scene with Walt
- an extended scene with Ben & Hurley, giving more information about their time running the island.

This DVD set is going to break all records (for illegally downloaded copies of the new footage.)

I'd be surprised by this, because that would go against their "the narrative will speak for itself" stance. Unless they were so surprised by the 'it was purgatory all the time' interpretation that they feel the need to come clean. Or maybe this was the plan all along -- tease us with answers, but then make us pay at the end. They should have just made the finale a PPV event.
