Well, it'd be nice if we (Penn State) had a better record than 2-9 versus Michigan in the last 11 meetings before we call this a rivalry. For me, even if we probably won't play again 'til Joe is no longer head coach, Pitt is *the* rival. Secondary would be Maryland, WVU, and Syracuse. But it starts and ends with Pitt.

My alma mater is Boston U. I believe there's some sort of hockey cheer regarding the suckage of BC. :)

Totally agree.

It's great to hear there are still some Penn State fans that still care about the old Pitt/Penn State rivalry.

It's a shame because as a supporter of neither school I'd love to see them play, especially right now with Pitt looking like a pretty good team entering this year.

Wow, just when I was starting to think you were a decent guy...you admit you cheer for the Habs. Sacre Bleu!

Seriously, though - I'm a Leafs fan through and through, so my rivals are the Montreal Canadiens for the same reasons that El Nastio mentioned. Another Toronto rival are the Buffalo Sabres, because they're apparently down the road from them - seriously, one highway and you're more or less there.

In the NASCAR world, my "team" is the #18 Toyota of Kyle Busch, from Joe Gibbs racing...their rivals would be Hendrick Motorsports. I would gamble that Hendrick is EVERYONE'S rival.

Yessssss I love the delusion about Bettman as the heel owner out to screw one of the league's most popular and successful franchises because. uh. he doesn't like Little Caesars or something.

I think the Wings and Pens had something epic going, but it might be ephemeral since it was built around those two years and the Hossa subplot. Since they each won once, Hossa left, and they only play twice a year, it's hard to really sustain a good feud. Plus both teams have bigger provincial issues -- Pittsburgh with Washington, as the Crosby/Ovechkin thing overshadows the whole league at times, and Detroit with Chicago, who I got the impression they kind of viewed as their wannabe little brother, so that should get even more intense if Chicago wins the Cup since they'd be on equal footing all of a sudden.

About a dozen different fanbases are hysterically obsessed with Crosby to some extent so that part isn't that special.

I think of the Penguins biggest rivals as Washington and Philadelphia, with Washington having displaced Philly based on the ubiquitous AO-Crosby comparisons and the Pens having had the Flyers' number from 2006-2009. (Philadelphia potentially getting to the Finals and, god forbid, winning would bring them right back to the forefront though.) I see Detroit as this looming figure on the other side of the league with whom I had cataclysmic battles and may one day see again. So watch out, Nicole Lidstrom, 'cause Uncle Gary is going to make SHANE McMAHON the guest referee of the rubber match.

The Steelers' only real rival at the moment is probably Baltimore since Cleveland and Cincinnati are joke franchises, this year notwithstanding. There was a jealous little brother aspect with the Patriots in the first half of the decade but that kind of dissipated since both of the Steelers' Super Bowl seasons came during seasons where New England wasn't as relevant as a league superpower.

Team Laycool's greatest rivals were Mickie James and Beth Phoenix but they've pretty much put those two to bed convincingly.

I think the St. Louis Rams are in the same don't care bracket that the Lions currently occupy. There was a time, when that team was winning, where they had a solid rivalry with the 49ers.

Kentucky Wildcats have the University of Louisville Cardinals in both football and basketball. And those are usually good, hate-filled games.

Other American pro sports: The Avalanche used to have the Red Wings when both were Western Conference forces.

Arsenal have Tottenham and Man Utd, and though real Arsenal supporters will always hate Tottenham more, I despise United far more because Tottenham haven't been on our level for some time (ok, they were last season, but that's just a flash in the pan.) United, on the other hand, should die and take their oldass manager with them.

The Indian Cricket Team have Pakistan and Australia, though the Pakistan rivalry transcends sports. A 60-year history of partition, wars, and international intrigue would do that to you, I suppose.

Philadelphia Eagles: The NFC East in general, Dallas in particular.

Rangers FC: Celtic, though personally I reserve far greater distaste for Aberdeen who are just an unfathomable collection of douchebags from top to bottom.

Bolton Wanderers: Like all right-thinking people, we really don't like Manchester United. It's tough to call that a rivalry as such though (in that we rarely even muster a goal against them) so we also take issue with any other football club within a 50 mile radius of The Reebok. Just on principle.

"Sacred Blue". Clever pun, Leafs fan. And surely you knew before this thread I was a Habs fan. But hey, I understand. I mean, with all the embarrassing stories that the Leafs put out I can totally see why you'd gloss over people talking about Superior hockey teams.

Don't forget about Leafs/Wings. The Leafs and the Wings used to be like Habs/Bruins, until the Leafs moved to the East.

I would kill to see the Leafs/Wings renewed. That was a rivalry I grew up with, alongside the Blackhawks, and it's been promptly shot dead thanks to Bettman's bungling.

The Colts' biggest rival is easy to pick out: The New England Patriots, by far. Even though we've recently had the Patriots' number, it still annoys me when I see them on our schedule for the following season. Doesn't the NFL ever get sick of it? (Answer: Of course not, it's ratings.)

I'd also place the Saints, Steelers and Titans among the Colts' rivals.

Right now, the Pacers aren't good enough, and the Nationals (though having a good year so far, knock on wood) aren't established enough to have major, cash-in-able rivalries. But I count the Pistons, Knicks and Bulls as the Pacers' rivals, and the Orioles as the major rival to the Nationals.

Steelers? Really?

Just because of that play-off loss to them back in 2006?

Carolina Hurricanes: Gotta be the New Jersey Devils. They've met during just about every Carolina playoff appearance in their short history, and have a 3-1 record to show for it. The Devils have been considered the favorites every time, and I doubt their fanbase cares very much for ours.

Atlanta Braves: The New York Mets. The 1999 NLCS was one of the ugliest I can ever remember. I have never forgiven their classless fans, and much of the fanbase hasn't either.

True. But it was either "move out of the city, which had been dragging its feet for years on a new stadium proposal" or "have the team seized by eminent domain." Irsay chose the former, as would I, every time.

To this day, when facing the Ravens in Baltimore, the Colts are referred to as "the Indianapolis professional football team" and called "Indy" on the scoreboard-- they've got as much denial about this team being the Colts as the Chinese government has about the existence of the Tiananmen Square massacre.

Well, as a Yankees and Giants fans, I have to hate the Red Sox and the Cowgirls with the intensity of a billion suns.

Although I love hockey, living in St Louis, and having to endure the Blues every year, it's hard to like regular season hockey. They hate the Red Wings and Blackhawks, so I guess I hate them too.

I don't follow college or pro basketball, so I can't speak to anything there.

I still refer to them as Indy. Everyone in these parts that were diehard fans use Indy for the team that exists today and Colts for the team that was in Baltimore.

People that don't live here just can't understand the deep connection people had and still have with that team with that team.

I still think it's awesome that Irsay didn't get their first championship trophy when they did the Rams/Colts swap and Baltimore still has it proudly on display and Indy is showing off a fake.
