The intertesting bit in there is that Nugent is 54 years old and has been alcohol, drug and tobacco free for all those years. It's kind of frightening that he's as intense as he is without any checmical enhancement!

For how much Nugent claims to hate "The Osbournes", he sure has a diffucult time talking about anything else...

It couldn't be because he hasn't had a hit song in well over twenty years and that even that was a second rate ripoff of "Smoke On The Water", and therefore is horribly jealous of Ozzy's continued sucess? Nah...

He's a nut... He scares me in that "Timothy McVeigh" kind of way. Not to mention his music sucks (with exception, a rather mean version of Chuck Berry's Maybelline).

Anyone who is THAT into killing things (animal or otherwise) just makes me uneasy...

I love The Nuge. I don't necessarily agree with much of what he says, but the fun of Ted Nugent is all about the way he says it. He's the best kind of crazy rich guy with weapons. The bit in his Behind the Music when he says "Wiped me out...flat broke" is classic. The one that got me when I read this article last week was the "you respect your elders, I can feel it over the phone" line right after talking about the perfectly nugently named "Craveman" CD.

I think he's worth having around just as a crazy celebrity voice who says the opposite of what other crazy celebrity voices say, and I'm inclined to agree with him about The Osbournes. If I ever had to be hunted for sport by someone, I think it would be cool if it was Nugent.

And the end of the video for "Wango Tango" is still hilarious.

Unless you're a vegetarian, what's the problem? Someone has to kill what you're grilling. The Nuge's method of raising his own food is more environmentally sound than your average large cattle farm, and, it seems, more friendly to the animals involved. At least his dinner gets to live the good life before Ted puts an arrow in it.

Well, not that it matters, but I have been a vegetarian for six years. And you are right about Nugent's "method" being more environmentally friendly.

But my problem is not with the fact that he hunts, or eats meat, etc. Its the fact that he is so fanatical about it. Charleton Heston creeps me out in the same way - you get these people who are SO over the top pro-gun that it just weirds me out.

I have good friend who went into the army and who was moderately pro-gun (no where to the degree of the folks mentioned above), and left the army 100% behind gun control. He could not believe the absolute lack of understanding that most of his collegues had around weapons capable of killing so easily.

I'm sure Ted Nugent and Heston would not approve of such carelessness with firearms, but the message gets lost in their "pry my gun from my cold dead hand" attitude.

But do over the top veg*ans freak you out? They freak me out. Hell, most over the top types freak the shit out of me. Don't matter if I agree with their views or not, but zealouts freak me out.

Though I must agree with the nuge that a lot of environmental and animal rights activists are morons... "It's not heh-heh, the deer's in danger heh-heh, let's save Bambi! Let's live forever! Heh-heh Shut the fuck up! Have some more LSD on your Cheerios and go jam with Jerry Garcia! That's nonsense!" I liked that quote, I really did, especially since it tends to be true of many animal rights/environmental activists. But, I do realize that every group has many morons in it.

I'm not exactly sure what you mean by "over the top", but my personal view on vegetarianism or veganism - you cannot force people to change their lifesyle. And the "meat culture" is pretty engrained into people's everyday exitance. Most of my girlfriends have been meat-eaters (insert obvious joke HERE), and most of my friends are not vegetarians.

But if you really thought about some of the hypocrisy of it all - pigs are just as smart if not smarter than dogs. We have no problem eating pork, but if your neighbor decided to eat Rover, everyone would be up in arms. Not only that, but we are critical, and I am generalizing, of other cultures who eat animals we consider to be cute and cuddly.

Now, getting back to Nugent, I have NO idea what that quote is supposed to mean, it sounds like the ravings of a lunatic to me. I guess he is trying to say that all animal rights activists are drugged out hippies, which I am not sure really addresses the issue at all, not to mention is COMPLETELY false.

Which is my problem with Nugent, he just acts so matter-of -fact with his point of view with no real logic to back it up, and then goes on to make these bizzare statements that make no sense - and he owns a gun.

I would not want him living next to me, that's for sure.

Far be it for me to speak for the Nuge, but since he's unlikely to come here I'll take a flyer and say I THINK he's insinuating that their focus is misplaced and their energy for the most part misdirected. I think his "big picture" approach makes a lot of sense if you can get past the way he delivers it verbally...although it seems a lot of people cannot.

That quote sounds like the ravings of a lunatic because I took it out of context. Basically, in its correct context, it's a quote attacking the dumb animal rights activists use. Dumb meaning the ones whose only reason is because the animals are cute and shouldn't be killed because they are cute. Conservationism without critical thought is just as dangerous as destructionism.

I, an Inuit (which probly makes me the token eskimo of this place), come from a culture where are primary traditional food sources are cute. Seals and caribou are cute. They're also delicious and nutritious.

Yeah, you're right that we as a group are overly critical about other people who eat cute, cuddly animals. I attribute that to the "our way is right, every other way is wierd and wrong" syndrome that has always, always plagues mankind. I don't particularly care what my food looked like before it got on my plate, as long as it tastes good, is relatively good for me and won't kill me, I'm happy.

Then that would make you not over the top... Since I define an over the top veg*an as the kind who tries desperately to get everyone they meet to stop eating meat, that it's wrong and evil and whatnot. I've only met about 2 of 'em, but that's enough to make me have a severe disliking for that type o' veg*an. I've also met veg*ans who are damned coo'. People who constantly try to make other people think like they do, and completely ignore if the other idividual wants them to or not, irk me... And, honestly, no matter what a person believes or what the topic/issue, if they're like that, i can't stand 'em.

If veg*anism is right for you, good. It can be a healthy dietary style, as long as you can balance your nutritional intake properly. Same goes for a diet consisting mainly of meat, fish, birds of various sorts and other animal products with a fairly low intake of non-animal (vegetables, fruits, grains and whatnot) food.

Oh yeah, and what CRZ said.

For Leroy:

Nuge has all kinds of logic backing him up. He makes the statement that people who oppose hunting often necessitate the slaughter of hundreds of animals, just to keep the populations manageable.

Which would you prefer, one hundred dead and cremated deer, or one hundred deer that put food on someone's table, even if it is the hated Nuge's, and perhaps saved the life of 100 animals in some breeding farm somewhere else?

And he owns a gun. So what? As far as I know he's never fired it at a human being, but you can correct me if I'm wrong. Would you be happier if he owned a bolt gun, and killed his food that way?

As I stated before, my problem with Nugent is NOT that he hunts, eats meat, or owns a gun (although I am for gun control).

Its the fact that he says things, like the above "LSD, Gerry Garcia" quote, that make him sound like a lunatic, and that somehow I am supposed to be willing to see past that while he is a gun advocate.

Look, you cannot have it both ways. You cannot dismiss the "over-the-top" animal rights for saying ludicrous things while saying ludicrous things yourself - and somehow expect people to take your point of view over theirs. Their both nuts.

Do people on the other end of the political spectrum commit the same offenses? Yes, of course, and they tick me off too. But if their efforts are "misdirected", as CRZ interprets, than there are ways of addressing it with out accusing the whole group of being "LSD, Gerry Garcia..."

Which, for the most part, is my problem with MOST political debate in this country... flash over content. As long as I say something that will get attention, it does not matter what rediculous items fall out of my mouth. The point is always secondary to the presentation (Bill O'Reilly is another one who excels at this).

Sorry if I am posting too much in this forum... just feel a need to respond.

Remember, Ted is a celebrity rock star, not a politician. He shouldn't be taken seriously (not anymore so than anyone else). I don't see the jump some of you are making that if one says "Have more LSD on your Cheerios and go jam with Jerry Garcia" must mean he is a lunatic murderer. Hell, I think that's a funny statement. Certainly more creative than "The lefties druggie peace environmentalists should go screw themselves", which is basically what he meant. I would feel as safe living next door to him as anyone else. Once again, he shouldn't be taken seriously, he's not a politician, and he is not in the arena of serious debate.

ges7184: Oh, so every politician should be taken seriously? I don't mean to flame you or anything, but clearly we've had lots of crooked politicians. I'd rather pay more attention to the argument than the man.

Leroy: Ted isn't mad at the environmentalists "style," per se. He disagrees with their message. There's a difference between saying nothing just for the sake of hearing your own voice (Ted's vision of the environmentalists) and saying reasonable things in an outrageous manner (Ted himself).

I've been in his hunting store in Jackson, MI, and my dad's been in there while he was working.. spent 3 hours talking to him about music, hunting, etc..

And if you think he doesn't have any good songs, listen to "Stranglehold" for God's sake. Brilliant song. He's one hell of a guitar player, something you can't deny if you like his music or not.

As far as the whole hunting/gun control thing, I've grown up my entire life around hunters and so I might be biased. But I ask this. Who is more environmentally friendly? A hunter who respects the natural cycle of the animal and hunts in moderation with the intent to consume the animal, or a trendy tofu-eater who has never left the city they were raised in?(stereotypical, but come on, if you've lived in a big city, you KNOW the types).

One thing that could weaken Lieberman's position even more is that they are now calling the OR senate race for Merkley. That puts the Dems up to 56 counting Sanders. Even if they don't get any of the remaining three seats that's still a solid majority.
