They've definitely got the writing chops to make the book and score incredible. This could be the new Spamalot, but with a much wider potential audience. It also has the potential to piss off a lot of people. I'll be really interested to see how the Broadway community reacts to it once it's in previews, which will probably be a long way off since they haven't announced a venue or casting yet. As a first forray into stage musicals, this was an odd choice to me. I guess they figure that if they're going to take a property that's not South Park-related to NYC, it may as well be one that'll get a lot of press for being controversial. I can't wait to get more info on this, and to see just how outlandish they go. It can't be any worse than Shrek, anyway... right?
