Rumors going around that the Rams may trade the #1 pick this year plus their first round pick next season to the Steelers for Ben Roethelisberger.

Not sure how this would shake out for Rams fans. I am fairly sure Pittsburgh fans would riot.

Zero chance of it happening. Adam Schefter said there was a better chance of him being the Rams #1 overall pick.

I heard the same rumor as well from Ed Bichotte from the Pittsburgh Post Gazette. I say deal him. Whatever they are paying him now a year is almost the same that they are going to pay the number one pick. I doesn't even have to be a QB, get the best O-Line or CB. I can't imagine the Rams being that good next year either so if Dixon doesn't pan out, you get your QB then or wait til see what the free agent market is like. Ben has lost the city and almost everyone is now coming out of the woodwork with stories if his attitude and misadventures in Pittsburgh. It also doesn't help that there maybe more lawsuits coming his way. As for Adam Shuffer, he could be right, but they never saw the Holmes trade coming either. The Rooney family is a proud group of people and all reports indicate they are beyond pissed.

There's not seeing it coming, and then there's checking out a rumor and seeing there's nothing behind it.

I'm not so sure. What I've been listening to on the local radio sports talk shows and the newspaper blogs, ALOT of people here want him gone because he is an embarrassment to the Steelers and has had a reputation of being a jerk way before all of this.

There are other fans here who don't really want him traded, but would understand if he was and would get over it.

I've disliked Ben for a long time (probably starting around the time the refs handed the Steelers the Super Bowl over the Seahawks, but maybe even before that) but I've never been able to explain or understand why. Having said that, though, I'm truly surprised by the amount of backlash he's seeing.

I don't think there's any chance he gets traded, but I said that about Donovan McNabb for years. Going with that train of thought, maybe Ben has about a year or so to clean up his act and then he's out the door.

Now, if the Steelers draft a QB on the first day this year, all bets are off.

Why would the fans riot? They had a horrible season and he's terrible now. Might as well get TWO top picks for him now. Wouldn't be the worst idea ever.

Well that's a stupid thing to say, because they can't draft him, so there's a better chance they trade for him!!!

Schefter also said Bob Stoops was going to the Gators, FWIW.

I think he meant there's a better chance that the Rams draft HIM (i.e., draft Adam Schefter) than trade for Big Ben. At least that's how I interpreted it...

This sounds like something you would find on wrestlezone.

I mean how long is this going to go on?????

The Lambs are going to get Vick, Then McNabb, Then Warner was going to come back and on and on.

Granted they missed the playoffs, but I don't think a record of 9-7 qualifies as a "horrible season" by any stretch of the imagination. There are plenty of NFL teams that would kill to have 9-7 seasons once in awhile.

(Unfortunately, some of the aforementioned teams who'd love to be 9-7 were able to beat the Steelers, including the Browns, Raiders and Chiefs).

Still, Roethlisberger has won two Super Bowls for the club. I can't imagine them giving him up so easily.

And I'd like to know, quite frankly, when it became a crime to be accused of a crime. Is everyone forgetting he wasn't prosecuted?!

Yeah they finished 9-7 but they also lost like 50 games in a row (note: that's just a rough estimate). And in those 50 games they lost to the league's bottom dwellers. AND this was the season after they won the Super Bowl. If you're not willing to call that a horrible season then you must be a fan of the Lions or perhaps in Big Ben's immediate family.

Also, Roger Goodell has said on more than one occasion the lack of criminal sanctions doesn't mean there won't be any league sanctions. The law doesn't punish you unless you're guilty beyond a reasonable doubt. There's no reason the NFL needs to be that cautious. They're not controlling men's life and liberty, they're merely controlling the privilege of playing in the NFL. If Ben wants to keep putting himself in situations where he gets in trouble or almost gets in trouble or gets accused of causing trouble, it's not unreasonable for Goodell or anyone else to think he's shown enough poor judgment to deserve punishment.

The heck? He posted 4,300 yards, 26 TDs and only 12 INTs for the second highest rating of his career. I know numbers can lie and all, and I'm sure there's a few games he'd like back, but if you think you can do that while being "terrible now" then....well....that's your prerogative I guess.

That logic would make you think that leading a team to 5 NFC Championship games should be enough to protect your job.

Pittsburgh is a city where they actually care about the image of the team instead of winning games. They are also very loyal to current and former players, hell Bonds got a standing O at times. People in that city say to this day that getting rid of Rod Woodson was the stupidest move ever done by any sports team and this is the city that has the Pirates in it. Its an increasing small city that has become very tight over the years with its sports teams and its players. Its not like NY or LA where you can pull this shit and people don't care coughKobecough, because the team is winning games with that person. They would rather get rid of one of the elite QBs in the game and gamble on a back-up or a draft pick then have to deal with this shit. Its a blue collar community where values matter. Add in the fact, his apology was a joke and there are more accusations coming out, its just going to be mess.

To be fair, Troy is the real MVP of the team since they lost most if not all the games he didn't play. They can live without Ben as long as the defense is there and they have a renewed commitment to running the ball. The major compliant about the Steelers was that Ben wanted to throw the ball every down. He also fought to keep the Offensive Coordinator too who is fucking terrible. So, it might actually be a positive for Ben to leave. I will say whoever gets Ben is going to be getting a great tough athlete, but it won't shock me to see him become more injury prone to the beatings he took in Pittsburgh or that there is more woman trouble on the way.

Oh, if I had a pound for every time I'd heard this down the years.

Fans of 'big clubs' will trot out the "no man's bigger than the club, we don't need Player X sullying our good name" line. Fans of teams from smaller or close knit communities will generally go with the "winning isn't everything, we're too classy for Player X. You can't pull that sh*t in our town" approach.

And then as soon as Player X throws a few TD passes/scores a few goals/wins a few games, all is forgiven and they're cheered to the rafters.

The reception Ben gets in Pittsburgh come October/November time will be directly correlated with his own performance and the number of wins he's posted by then.

Believe it.

This is never going to happen.

Roethlisberger is more valuable than Polamalu.

"Terrible" isn't a very good word to describe Roethisberger unless you mean as a boyfriend. (I mean, that hair.)

Darrell Jackson pushed off.

And that's why we were rolling in Lombardis under Cowher pre-Roeth playing Your Dad's Steelers Football.

The major compliant about the Steelers was that Ben wanted to throw the ball every down. He also fought to keep the Offensive Coordinator too who is fucking terrible.

The rumor was also that Tomlin fought to keep the offensive coordinator. The stories about the offensive coordinator are irrational and unsubstantiated because people are hysterical about him and make up weird conspiracies.

Agree 100%. If the Steelers have a good season, all is forgiven. If the Steelers have a bad season, people are still so very outraged. Our "proud blue collar fans" are as high-strung and football-obsessed as everyone else if not more.

Considering how long Leonard Little played for the Rams, Big Ben's problems are small PR potatoes.

As a Steelers fan, I don't want this to happen. The guy can play, and I haven't seen enough to say he's a violent sexual offender. A dumb mutt with no judgment, yes. But, again: Steelers fan. I'm biased toward keeping a two-time SB champ.
