KABLAMMO!!

Whose jaw didn't drop in shock and delight when Ilana went Arzt like a Roman candle? Earlier today Carleton Cuse Tweeted that Lost would start with a "blast from the past". They teased me good. Figured it was the return of Peter Chang, but no, it had to be Michael on the Island. Wait, no, Libby! Nope, literally, a blast from the past. How many days will it take Hurley to pick bits of Ilana off his shirt?

And dude, they blew up the Black Rock (set)! Explosions all over the place.

I liked special guest star Senator Kelly as Libby's head shrinker. That guy hates mutants. He doesn't hate crazy people. But he loves money. I also liked that Libby was in the insane asylum voluntarily. She's like that big fat white guy who pretended to be Michael Jackson in season 2 of The Simpsons.

Second Simpsons season 2 reference: Smoke Locke throwing Desmond down a well. There's a hole in my heart as deep as a well for that poor little boy who's trapped halfway to hell. I hope Penny is sending her love down a well.

In all likelihood, we'll never get the whole story on what Libby's deal was, why she was in an insane asylum before she was on the Island, etc. This was the next best thing. I liked when she and Hurley kissed and he downloaded a bunch of Lost season 2 flashbacks.

Out of the blue, we got the Answer of what the whispers are. And because Michael asked Hurley to apologize to Libby, we also learned the Spirits Stuck on the Island for What Bad Things They Did don't interact with each other. Which is probably for the best for Ghost Michael - otherwise, he'd never hear the end of it from Ghost Libby and Ghost Ana-Lucia for shooting them dead. I'm not satisfied with that Answer, though. The whispers have always preceded an appearance by The Others, so what up with that?

Richard flipping out the whole episode was pretty good. He's not calm and collected anymore. And aw, what a tease: Jacob told Richard what the Island really is. I hope on the march and sail to Hydra Island, Miles calls Richard on that and asks him what the Island really is.

The Candidates (plus Lapidus) delivered themselves to Smoke Locke just like he kept saying they would. There's so much detail and stuff to remember on this show, I was momentarily confused why Sun was writing shit down on a notepad. Jack point blank explained his change of heart and newfound ability to let go and let people tell him what to do. Except he's following Hurley, who lets dead people who yell at him tell him what to do.

And now Smoke Locke has all the Candidates together except Jin, if Jin is the final Candidate. I didn't remember until "Hello Jack" that Jack hadn't met the new and improved Thing That Looks Like John Locke until now.

Finally, the total out of left field shocker of Desmond running Locke over with his car. No one saw that coming. But at least now, Dr. Linus doesn't think he's a pedophile, brother.

I thought Ilana was being a little cavalier with her treatment of the dynamite, but I guess she figured her purpose would cause the island to keep her alive. Did she load the dynamite at the bottom of her bag with the water??? That was foolish and awesome. I guess that scene with her in bandages is all we'll ever see of her flashbacks. RIP Booty Fett.

I thought the answer Richard was looking for was that its a cork.

Senator Kelly was reprising his role as Hurley's therapist from Dave.

I found it interesting that Hurley's dad didn't appear to be back with his mother in the Sideways world. Good to see Dr. Chang, Libby, and Michael again. The museum and that school are becoming just as interesting a locus as the hospital now...

Did Widmore know Locke would throw Desmond into a well? I guess this explains the well that preceded the Orchid station.

If Hurley was triggered by kissing Libby, will Jack and Sawyer both have to kiss sideways Kate?

You believe me, don't you?

Illiyana was being way to cavalier with that dynamite, tossing bottles of water in her bag...

I thought of Timmy O'Toole in the well also.

My theory about the ending: Des' mind is in both places at once, so running down Locke = revenge for MIB tossing him in the well.

We saw that conversation...it was a reference to the wine bottle/cork metaphor.

Also - the Willy Wonka boat ride preview for next week was outstanding and creepy.

Right, right, the cork. Gosh, how can I be expected to remember a Lost callback from 3 weeks ago when I'm too busy pulling up Simpsons callbacks from 20 years ago?

Desmond's wall isn't the same well that leads the way to the Island-moving wheel, right? Since this well was in a big open field and the last time we saw the Island-moving well, the Orchid station was built over it. Unless the Others inexplicably spent three years taking the Orchid apart.

Gosh, I didn't even have to see Pierre Chang to recognize his voice during that sideways LOST tribute to Hurley. I think I might remember his voice for the rest of my life after all those damn Dharma videos.

Okay, you guys need to tell me what you think: is Sayid super scary to you too or is it just me? Ever since he killed those two Others, he has been TERRIFYING. His eyes look so dead. I mean, I'm almost surprised Smoke Locke isn't scared of him. I wonder if Naveen Andrews is just that great of an actor or if he's being aided by dark color contacts or something else like that.

For the split second between the explosion and Ilana removing her bag from her shoulder, I knew she was about to go kablooey. I'm just surprised nobody mentioned Arzt by name before it happened. She definitely was being too reckless with the dynamite.

Were The Whispers the longest running unanswered question in the entire show? I'd have to go back and look but I feel like we may have heard whispers even in the very first episode of season 1.

Alt-Desmond running over Alt-Locke: henchman job for Widmore or payback for the on-island well dumping? I think it's the latter.

Now, if I could just figure out what the key is for the sideways LOSTies remembering their original lives, I'd be all set. My girlfriend seems to think it's something along the lines of repeating something in the alternate timeline that you did during the normal timeline, possibly with someone else who was also there. Desmond trying to save Charlie, Hurley and Libby sharing a kiss, Charlie almost dying and getting saved by Jack. Not sure if that theory can explain what happened to Libby though (or Sun for that matter).

I was getting frustrated with the first handful of episodes from this season, what with all the completely disconnected sideways flashes, but I'm really, REALLY loving the way things are progressing now.

THANK YOU for identifying that. It was bugging me where I knew that from. And I wholeheartedly agree, that was a great trippy-fantastic promo.

I'm convinced that Desmond was paying Locke back for the well. He definitely seems to be bridging the gap between the universes.

No mention of the boy? Or that Desmond saw him too? (That makes Sawyer & Des so far, right?) FLocke's reaction was amusing, "Just ignore him!" FLocke also brought the creepy again with that look he gave Jack.

Regarding the well, the people who dug it out started digging due to the weird magnetic things happening at that spot. Was something found at that point/depth that would cause the original people to stop digging?

*Boom* goes the dynamite.

I'm pretty sure it was a different well that Desmond got pushed down. They went to pretty huge lengths to have Flocke explain the digging of several wells on the island before he gave him a shove, so that would convolutedly explain it. But why a well? There are about a bajillion things Smokey could have done to Desmond, but the fact that he chose to push him down a well can't be just a random thing, methinks.

It seems like as soon as you're killed on the island, you become instantly aware of it in the alternate timeline. Libby, Charlie, Daniel... That explains why the others that haven't died need a trigger in order to remember. This also makes Locke very interesting, because he died in the main timeline... but not on the island. He apparently doesn't remember anything in the alt., so is that what caused Smokey to be trapped permanently is his body? Because he was an exception to the rest of the people he's inhabited, who were all killed on-island?

I think Desmond isn't crossing back and forth between the two realities yet. I think he ran over Locke so that he would meet Jack. From here, I'm guessing that Jack heals Locke so that he can walk, and as soon as Locke can feel his toes again he remembers back to when he did the same in the pilot. I think that, because he's the exception to the standard Smokey inhabitant on the island, his "remembering' is gonna be pretty key to the endgame. Maybe Locke then awakens inside Flocke, triggering an internal struggle.

That boy is bothering me, and not just in the creepy way. Apparently, according to the credits he's the same actor, but... is it just me or did he look different this week? Older, and less blond? It looked like he was supposed to be, like, a dark twin or something. Maybe just a difference in his make-up and hair, but I don't dismiss anything on Lost as being trivial anymore.

And why did Chang look exactly the same in 2007 or whenever as he did in the '70s? Another thing that I can't just dismiss as a production error, because that would be a big continuity error. I think he's not quite done here yet. Maybe in the alt. timeline, Dharma found another way to research their theories and found a way to stop from aging? I'm partially joking, but again... this is Lost, so everything's out the window.

I hope UnLocke is whittling Ecko's Jesus stick.

Desmond as a fairy god brother is awesome. "Oh, that's a lotta chicken" cracked me up a lot.

Michael managed to remind me to feel bad for him. I had forgotten why I liked the character and only saw him in the context of Libby's murderer. But his delivery of the last line to Hugo -- and his status as being truly lost after only wanting to get his son back -- man, that hurts. That actor always brings it.

Libby is always welcome on my TV, and Mama Reyes once again killed her few lines. She's gold.

I actually yelled "she got Arzted!" in delighted surprise.

This episode encapsulates everything I love about the series. Ever since they dropped the Temple characters and setting, the season has been terrific.

Ah yes, the cork ... I had simply assumed that he was lying to try and trick Hurely, in the same way that Hurley lied about seeing Jacob. Oh well.

I really loved the scenes with Desmond and Smocke. Smocke had a very interesting reaction when Desmond mentioned the electromagnetism, and now they're starting to tie the scientific and mythological aspects together, which is what they really need to do (along with the character stuff).

Desmond wasn't afraid of him like most everyone else is and Smocke didn't know what to think of that. Then, of course, he shows him why he should be afraid.

Also, the wells now appear to be explained as the first hatches before Dharma ever got there. I like that.

The whispers answer seemed pretty cheap to me. They were always associated with the Others appearing and I don't really see how that ties in to the dead souls on the island. Maybe the dead souls were warning the 815 people to turn back? I don't know, but I don't think that'll be addressed.

This and how the statue got destroyed are the two answers that have kinda disappointed me so far. Mostly satisfied with the rest.

Starting tonight, or maybe last week with the Desmond episode, it appears that the shit's on and we're now going to get no-filler for the rest of the season. The flash-sideways people are aware of what's going down, Team Jack and Team Locke are now in the same spot, and there's only 6 hours left.

I'm really interested in how Jack and Claire are going to interact now that they're meeting up for the first time since Jack found out she's his sister and, of course, Jack and the Smoke Monster hashing shit out. Next week's going to rock.

If Jack doesn’t confront Locke on what the deal is with Christian, I’m going to go buy a Jack action figure and punch it in the face.

So what does that useless bit of info that Michael gave about the whispers tell us about the Others, Walt, and all of the times we heard the whispers off-Island? Could the Others be "ghosts?" They don't leave footprints or trails, right?

How many times now have we been teased with a scene involving the outrigger?

I wonder how many wells were dug before those people found that one special spot that made their compasses go loopy and also had a rope sticking out of the ground.

Sideways Locke's face at the end was almost a mirror image of Original Locke's face after being thrown through the window.

Desmond's facial expressions were brilliant here.
He wasn't afraid of Fake-Locke because he knew what was going to happen. He knew he was going into that well.
And he knew he was supposed to go there (unlike early Desmond, he is no longer afraid of his destiny)

Desmond in the alternative Universe is awesome too.
His actions (triggering events for others) reminded me of Jacob's actions but a bit less subtle.

He definitely ran over Locke so the latter would end up on the surgery table of one Jack (or Christian?) Shepperd.

Oh, and did you notice that he did not hesitate a second to say his kid's name was Charlie. He doesnt have a kid/family in that universe. Desmond's mind is fully aware. He knows fully of both universes (probably more than two)
He is not done and the way he acted around Flocke were totally "you can't hurt me neener-neener"

Dr. Chang's intro was awesome, and the episode remained very strong.
Libby being in the mad house voluntarily also reflects Hugo who voluntarily went in there, iirc?

Oh, and Flocke said he needed all the candidates that returned to the island to leave with him, I think?

Well, that means he doesn't need Jin, because he was already on the island when the Ajira plane landed there.
However, when they landed, I think Sun was the only one of of the 815 group not teleported to the 70s, so that might mean something too. (Not 100% on my facts but I think it went like this...)

I knew Ilana was going boom as soon as you saw the leaky dynamite in her bag and because she walked SO far away from everyone else.

Desmond is the only one on the island that is aware of the slideways world. I would not be at all surprised to see in one of the next episodes that he is conscious of both worlds IN both worlds.

I am thinking that Desmond ran over slideways Locke not to just injure him but to kill him. I am sure that whatever injury slideways Locke has is going to somehow effect MIB and how he can or can't use Locke's body back on the island.

Dirty Libby cleaned up nicely.

The boy in the woods looks a hell of a lot like a young Jacob in the process of growing up to me. I think we will see him become Jacob again before all is said & done.

MIB has everyone now in his camp just like he said he would. Can he get past the sonar beacon security fence on Hydra Island ?

Kate got happy when she saw idiot Jack walk into camp. Then Kate fell off of my "cheat on my wife list".

Is it next Tuesday yet ?

Here's a theory I posted elsewhere, spoilered in case it's true:

Spoiler Below: Highlight text to read
I don't think it's possible to actually kill Jacob, and that kid is Jacob regenerating. Meanwhile FLocke is trying to get off the island while he knows Jacob's power is at a low point, allowing the escape. That's why the original plan was just to get off the island, and after he & Sawyer saw the kid he knew he had to get all the candidates to come with him to cloak his presence while the plane was leaving.

Now FLocke is just trying to get everything to happen as quickly as possible, which is why he told Desmond to just ignore the kid.

I initially thought Ilana was safe because the island wasn't through with her protecting the candidates, then I paused the TiVo and said to my wife "It'd be great if she got Arzted right now" unpaused the TiVo, then *BOOM!*
