Originally posted by Tenken347That Knockouts match was so utterly convoluted that even when they put the rules for the match up on the screen, I still wasn't entirely sure what was going on until the first pinfall was made. Of course, the rest of the booking for the women was completely in character for Ed Ferrara. I knew that this was how it was going to be going as soon as I heard they were bringing him on to the booking committee.
And while I'm complaining about things, how in the world does this company keep missing the boat on Alex Shelley? Out of all their home-grown guys, he is without a doubt the single best talker. Pretty damn good in the ring, too. Yet he's just been jobbed out since forever. This is a guy who should be in or near the main event, at the very least involved with one of their titles, and you'd be well within your rights to forget he even works there.
On a positive note, hey, at least Doug Williams looks like he's been watching some old William Regal tapes, eh?
I couldn't agree more. Shelley reminds me of a young Jericho with his promos. He has a good look, loads of charisma and is great in the ring. There is no reason not to push him. I had hope they would do something with him when he won the X Division last year and he dropped the title two months later to Suicide.
I had to double-check my DVR to make sure it didn't cut out early. They seriously ended the show with a faux-T&A segment? What the hell were they thinking?
It looks like the match of the night was the Angle/Anderson ladder match, which seems to have a unanimous consensus of being incredibly and unnecessarily dangerous. Some of those spots looked really scary/poorly planned and it baffles me that they'd risk Kurt like this. Especially against Ken Anderson, who has a history of hurting himself AND his opponents in high profile matches.
I'm still shaking my head over the unprotected chairshot on Terry. It's a wonder that these guys don't get it. When WWE bans unprotected chairs to the head, it's not them being tame, it's them being SAFE! Is the word "concussion" not in the TNA lexicon?
The Dudz should just retire at this point if their only function is to put on nostalgia-fests against 40-something-year-old has-been teams.
Douglas Williams looks like he could be the only non-Pope bright spot on this show. He's nothing short of awesome right now, but completely wasted being put in a feud with another WWE castoff.
Originally posted by lotjxWell, the Knockouts did wrestle more then 2 minutes, so that puts them at least a month of wrestling ahead of the Divas.
I believe you meant to say that The Knockouts are WAY behind Wrestlicious!
I am not a big fan of handing the title via box since I just thought it was a title shot and not the belt itself. It is an interesting way to go from face to face with it. I still prefer it better then HHH being handed the title and the MITB change over is almost like that as well.
Seriously guys, this is as dumb as Vince just HANDING Mankind the WWF Hardcore title, am I right? But because I'm fair-minded I'll note that it wasn't QUITE as dumb as when Jeff Jarrett and Booker T. fought in that 49ers match over the world heavyweight championship.
The Band shit and it is shit is already boring the hell out of me.
But at least it isn't as bad as... THE ODDITIES!
The end was a clusterfuck, but it was still better then Cena getting betrayed and laid out for the 50th time.
It definitely had more women! And those women had boobs!
Having said all that, my channel was mostly on TNA instead of Raw due to how predictably boring Raw has gotten sans Orton.
Because you only had TWO choices ALL NIGHT and your TV AND cable aren't capable of being turned off!

But let's stop with that line of posting, shall we?
I am anticipating your "poor me, you only pull this shit with me" response, lotjx, and what can I tell ya. You have fallen and continue to fall into the same trap that I saw so many times from so many people when I was covering RAW vs. Nitro - it seems that for some folks, there's just no way to build up TNA without taking shots at the WWE, and that's the weakest sauce you can bring when you're trying to convince people you have an argument worth making.
Forget the WWE - pretend it doesn't exist. How did this iMPACT! compare to other iMPACT!s?
Now, obviously I didn't see the show, but I'm pretty sure even I can divine the answer to that question just from reading this thread.
Now, the next logical step is to ask (rhetorically?) WHY it's different - if one can figure THAT out, it might be simple enough to ALSO figure out how to "undo" whatever is causing the quality to have suffered so much over the past { weeks | months | years | whatever } and try to turn that train back around. Of course, there's always problems there because changes like "undoing" always seems to end up so darn difficult to actually DO - whether it's contracts, lawsuits or just fear. So the drain will continue to be circled until .... I don't know, maybe Spike will step in or something. I can't see any reason for things to change, and it's a shame.
"But look how many people are talking about it now!"
I love Twitter more than the next fella, but it would behoove them to stop putting up Glamorous Head Shots of Sexy TNA President Dixie Carter (follow her at @TNADixie!) That graphic takes up half the screen. It's even bigger than the V Countdown Clock (oh yeah, I went there.)
Then you have Tenay saying things like "Go behind the scenes at TNA when you follow Dixie Carter!"
This is what's going behind the scenes at TNA apparently:

I can think of actual people she employs she might be better off aiming that huntin' rifle at.
This is awesome. At least she's wearing the TNA cap!
Do people PhotoShop wrestlers into them when they get released, a la Kenny's "Gone Fishin'" photos during the NBA Playoffs? Because they totally should. Somebody get FARK on that for me.

Tara is a far calmer, saner, more professional person than I. This was a flat-out "fuck you bitch" to the wrestlers who have come to TNA because, for a while, TNA had some interest in women who could put on a pro wrestling match. You couldn't ask for a clearer statement of change of direction than this debacle was.
Can't wait for Brookie Hogan to be featured in a T&A segment ...

The saddest part is that what you describe is the strategy they were pursuing, successfully. They had a lot of potential, & were developing on that. The had a decent fanbase that wanted them to succeed. They weren't trying to "beat" WWE -- at most they were looking at WWE for missing elements they could offer. They had all the keys to success.
And then there was a direction change, & the flushing noise began.

Oh look at you being all calm & rational-like. :-)
I've been involved in this kind of thing in real life. From the rationalist's perspective, we have to remember that the over-arching goal is *not* necessarily putting on a "good" or even "profitable" wrestling show. That clearly seemed to be a primary objective for most of the 8 years of the company. But the "big changes coming to TNA" at the end of 2009 was the marker of a shift in direction from the top of the money structure. There is no "fixing" or "turning around" at this point, because the drivers have changed.
The bright spot is that there is a window of opportunity for another competitor to leverage this pile of shit into their own success. This is the instant when ROH, or DGUSA, or SoCal wrestling, or some dark horse altogether could scramble up some backing $$$ & take the niche that TNA carved. There are savvy players that could keep this game interesting. The game just moves out of TNA's tainted sandbox.

AAA's coming MTV2 in May. Though I guess Jack Evans wasn't great enough to keep another wrestling promotion on those networks.

Honestly, that's not even my main problem with the chairshot. Offering a higher level of blood and violence is one of the few things that TNA can offer that the WWE won't, so occasionally going to that well seems okay to me. My problem is that they immediately went to it in a throw-away tv match to try and get over Rob fucking Terry of all people. That kills the specialness of the act, and makes it seem cheap at the same time. How on earth is it supposed to matter if they do the same thing to, say, Jeff Hardy at the PPV? It's like, "well of course Jeff can take it. I mean, Rob Terry could, and he's way further down the card." Somebody must have just decided, "Rob's not getting over like we want him to. Send him out there to get himself crippled. That should do it." If you're going to do this sort of thing, it has be reserved for special occasions, and it has to be at the main-event level for it to be worth doing.
I try not to get worked up over any given incidence on a show-to-show basis, you know? If you did that, any pro wrestling show would drive you mad. No company is "just what I want," so I try to take-it-or-leave it and spend my energy on the good stuff.
The problem right now is not the individual occurrences, it's the swiftly emerging patterns. Like: "This is how much we respect the Knockouts: The title win is pulled out of a box. This is how much we respect the Knockouts: We 'force' stripteases on them. This is how much we respect the Knockouts: The title will be defended in a 'Leather and Lace' match." Any one thing? Okay. Everything tumbling in at once? That's a clear statement of purpose.
Or: "This is how much we respect the fans: We'll stand in the new four-sided ring and -- literally! -- sneer at them that they don't get what they want, they get what WE want. We'll let their long-term favorite wrestlers go because they don't get who they want, they get who WE want." And on and on and on.
And I want to, to my constant surprise, defend Russo here. The last few months of 2009 -- when Russo, by all reports, had total control of the books -- were GOOD. The shows flowed pretty well, and the PPVs had some GREAT matches -- featuring YOUNG GUYS and/or TNA's homegrowns in the Main Events -- Styles, Daniels, Joe, Wolfe (and Angle). In addition, we were FOCUSING on people like The Pope, Eric Young (used WELL for once), Alissa Flash, and Hamada. At this point, if someone suggested that we take creative control away from Hogan and his pals and give it exclusively to Russo, I would be ALL FOR THAT.

(Senility sucks. There was a very good shoot interview I read somewhere online, giving a detailed insider-chronology of the behind-the-scenes of TNA. Down to the level of who got together as business partners because they lived in the same townhouse complex. And that Jerry Jarrett didn't want in, then did, then bailed. How Robert/Dixie Carter came to have anything to do with all this. Seems like maybe it was by somebody kind of like a Cornette, but maybe more old-time & less volatile. Timeframe of the article probably would have been early this year. Of course I didn't save the link, & can't find it now. Anybody?)

I remember reading something about Dixie & Jeff Jarrett being neighbors in the same (condo?) complex and that's how they met. I think it was a Dixie interview somewhere. The quote I remember from her was something like "Then it occured to me that WWE is all alone on the wrestling scene right now, but there used to me a 2nd viable, profitable company competing with them. What's stopping me from being that 2nd profitable company now?", or some such.
It doesn't matter what I write, it will get torn apart or he will delete and keep the most controversial part making the entire post making the deletion of said post retarded. All I will say, is I enjoy TNA more then WWE at this moment even though I thought the build towards Mania was pretty amazing. Sorry, I compared two wrestling shows to each other that were on the same night and I didn't watch any other shows. I will randomly change channels from now on. Also, the segment that everyone is bitching about did a .97 rating when Raw was on. It did what was supposed to do which is bring in the ratings, because really that is all that matters. I don't think TNA is going to win the war, but this talk of TNA dying or getting canned is stupid. Spike already stated it would go back to Thursdays if it doesn't do well.

Why does the show DOING the over-run get credit for the rating and not the show COMING ON?
What Worked PAS: Lots of really great looking matches on paper from Japan, but it is going to be hard to beat Beniot v. Jericho. This was really awesome and violent in a way that most of WWE Beniot isn't.
