Is this a late April Fools joke?

Sources: Philadelphia Eagles, Washington Redskins reach Donovan McNabb deal

The Philadelphia Eagles have reached agreement on a blockbuster intra-division trade that will send perennial Pro Bowl quarterback Donovan McNabb to the Washington Redskins, according to multiple sources close to the situation.

I don't get this at all. Why would the Eagles set up a situation where McNabb can kill them twice a year in a vengeance scenario?

That is *WILD* It seems to both make perfect sense and no sense at all at the same time.

Shanahan isn't going to run a West Coast offense in DC is he? I think Donovan will be good to run offenses besides the exact one he ran in Philly, but still . . .

Wonder if that means the 'Skins aren't going to draft Clausen (if available) as Steve Czaban and others have been thinking?

I've always liked and respected Donovan and will be interested to see how he does as long as it's not well against my Seahawks.

This makes no sense from an Eagles perspective. McNabb isn't shot, so you gave a team in your division who didn't have a QB a good QB. The Eagles QB situation is now Kolb, who has proven nothing in the pros, and Vick, who hasn't started in a few years and was a turf/dome QB who is now in the northeast on grass. There is no cap, so McNabb's salary isn't going to keep you from improving the team, and you got a high 2 and either a 3 or a 4. Now, if they had gotten the Redskins #1 pick, I could understand the move. But, you take a little less and make sure he doesn't come back to haunt you twice a year if the price is in the 2nd round.

I look on the internet and what do I see? Donovan McNabb is now playing in D.C.

This isn't exactly where I imagined D-Mac (I really could not see him elsewhere to begin with) but in the same division as the Eagles? Perhaps not the smartest move even if Washington hasn't been a division threat for a division title.

A lot of eyes are going to be on the NFC East now with D-Mac in a different uniform, see how Philly will do now, and what threat this poses for the Cowboys (or even the Giants if they can come back from last season).

Assuming that this was the best offer (and reports had came out that the Raiders were not interested), I'd say it's fine for the Eagles. McNabb isn't going to be doing anything with no O-Line and no receivers (think Jay Cutler's rude awakening, but worse), and they got good value for an older QB and can work for their future.

Kolb looked good in his starts this year, and we've seen recently the effect that an early pick pedigree plus sitting on the bench watching the game can do for a QB (Rivers, Rodgers).

Is McNabb going to lead the Redskins to 10 wins, win the division and beat out the Eagles in the standings? No. But they did just make another team in their division a lot better and those two games are going to be a lot more difficult because of the revenge factor. Not to mention the NFC East is pretty tough to begin with. So while McNabb isn't going to lead the Redskins to the Super Bowl, it is going to make Philly's path a lot harder.

I don't get the love for Kolb either. He led the Eagles to a 48 - 22 loss against New Orleans and then beat Kansas City. Wow. Certainly Kolb doesn't deserve comparison to Rivers and Rodgers.

This reminds me of the Patriots trading Drew Bledsoe to the Bills. Bledsoe was only 30 when he was traded and he wasn't shot - he completed 61.5% of his passes as a Bill in '02, a career-high. (Obviously, Tom Brady is better than Kevin Kolb + Michael Vick, but) that worked out OK for the Pats, because the Bills had enough problems that Bledsoe couldn't get them above 9-7.

I thought trading Sheldon Brown was crazy, but this...???

Kolb won't be the answer, and I look forward to his inevitable implosion and everyone starts realizing we shouldn't have run McNabb out of town.

I'd probably be fine with the trade if it was straight up for Jason Campbell.

The Redskins??? REALLY!?!?!??!

Just my opinion, of course, but if the worst criticism against Kolb is that he lost to the eventual Super Bowl Champions, then I'd say he's doing quite well for himself.

I wonder if this isn't a poor man's version of the Favre situation. Were Roseman/Banner part of the Philly organization when McNabb was drafted, or was that under Tom Heckert? Now, obviously Andy Reid is still around, but this deal could be an example of the regime trying to push their guy (Kolb) since they believe he's the real deal.

All this trade did was ensure that neither Washington or Philly will make the playoffs next year.

The Redskins have such bad pass protection, I would be surprised if he makes it through four regular season games as the starter.

What a horrible way to end his career. He's almost guaranteed to be seriously injured.

We HAVE to trade Campbell for a tackle and/or draft picks that lead to a tackle. The local news was saying we have one of the shortest OLs in the league.

Sucks for McNabb to finally have solid receivers after all these years only to get dumped across the division to a team with glaring holes all over the field.

If I were the Eagles I would have dumped Reid myself.

Wow, a reporter from the Washington Examiner broke the news to Campbell that the Skins got McNabb. Click Here (sports.yahoo.com)

Here is what the journalist said his phone call with Campbell was like:

Me: Did you hear about what happened?

    Jason: What?

Me: The Redskins traded for Donovan.

Jason: Really? Ummm ... I didn't know that, man.

Me: I'm sorry I had to be the one who told you. I can't believe they didn't tell you.

Jason: No, that's the first I heard of it. ... I'd better go call my agent.

When I called back later, it went to voice mail. His mailbox was full.

Yeah, but on the day they were handed their starting jobs, Rivers and Rodgers didn't deserve comparison to "Rivers and Rodgers 2010 Vintage". I'm not convinced by Kolb yet, but his path isn't disimilar to those guys.

I'm OK with everything about the trade apart from McNabb's destination. Seriously, Washington?

Yeah, both are equally nuts to me. Brown/Gocong for the low compensation, McNabb for the destination. About the only pleasure I derive from this is hearing the same Eagles fans who hated on McNabb for years, now slating the front office because they think we just made the 'Skins contenders. Either he sucks or he doesn't guys. Make up your damn minds.

Also, this now means the only Eagle older than me on the roster is Juqua Parker. How depressing.

EDIT - Ha, silly ESPN. Only position player on the Eagles' roster over 29 is what they meant it seems. How could I forget David Akers and Sav Rocca? I feel much better about my oldness now.

One of the sports guys on my local news said last night that supposedly the Raiders had a better trade offer on the table.

Now I'm reading this on MSNBC.com:

---------------------------------------------------------
Report: If traded to the Raiders, Donovan McNabb would have retired
Posted by Mike Florio on April 5, 2010 12:26 PM ET

A week ago, the Raiders were regarded as the favorites to land Eagles quarterback Donovan McNabb. According to Jason Cole of Yahoo! Sports, however, McNabb intended to never play for the Raiders.

Per Cole, McNabb made it known to the Eagles through McNabb's associates that McNabb would retire if traded to Oakland.

"He has plenty of money," a source close to McNabb told Cole. "He's not doing anything he doesn't want to do."

While McNabb would have given up $11.2 million in 2010 compensation if he had retired, the Raiders would have not been able to collect money previously paid to McNabb, like the Bucs ultimately did with Jake Plummer several years ago. The signing bonus proration on McNabb's 2002 extension concluded in 2009, and his "financial apology" from last year did not include (as far as we can tell) a signing bonus, which is the only form of compensation that can be recovered if a player retires with years remaining on the proration.

On paper, the Raiders look fairly stocked on offense and could take a weak AFC West division, so it looked like a bit of an overreaction at first. But after thinking about it, if you were Donovan McNabb, would YOU want to go from a coach that was like a father to you to a coach that nearly had assault charges pressed on him by his own assistant? With that in mind, retirement sounded perfectly reasonable.

But if anyone's REALLY getting the shaft more than McNabb (who goes from finally having a Top 5 receiver to Bottom 5 OL) it's poor Jason Campbell, who could go from playing for the starting job in Washington to starting for an even WORSE team. Hello, Buffalo?
