Another decent movie from Dreamworks. The story is just like you'd expect it to be. A viking town, with the son of it's leader being a wimp. He learns that those dangerous dragons are really misunderstood, and he has to show that to the village.
Thumbs up, but not WAY up. It's a decent flick, but nothing extraordinary. And, no real reason to be in 3D, other than to get the extra two bucks at the box office.
I'll give it a slightly larger bump - I really, really enjoyed it. I was especially fond of the scenery and how the water and rocks looked; it was just amazing. I went the whole movie trying to figure out the voices, but didn't get any of them. I thought that at least one was Mike Meyers but didn't see him in the credits at all.
I loved the end, predictable as it may have been. Sharing the cinema with another movie, the film could have easily popped the phrase, 'Release the Kracken!'. The characters were very easy to like and to sympathize with - their buildings were all new! After all, they are Vikings - it's an occupational hazard.
I'd see it again, but I don't know if my kids would. They are still a little young to have the required attention span. 3D wasn't available, but I didn't mind.
I absolutely loved this movie from beginning to end. The story was kinda stale, but the way it was presented was not. All of the characters were believable and actually likeable. The pacing was probably the best I've seen in an animated movie recently. Not once did I look at my cell phone to check the time, or get bored or distracted or turned off by the silliness or anything. It was a kids' movie, but with enough grounding in reality to appeal to adults just as much. And I got a little choked up at the end, to boot.
GO SEE THIS IN 3D. I'm not at all buying into the whole "every movie should be in 3D" thing, but for this movie it worked wonders. You can tell that they really put time into the effects and didn't just tack them on. The whole ending action sequence was breathtaking in 3D, and I would suggest that if you're gonna plop down extra money to see ANY movie in 3D, let it be this one. I think it adds a lot.
Saw this today and loved it. Can't wait to see it again. The 3D was excellent and didn't take me out of the action at all, while increasing the fun of a bunch of the shots.
