First, a couple of NEWS ITEMS!

Reportedly released from the company (although still on the roster page): Consequences Creed and the Nasty Boys. Click Here (f4wonline.com).

It looks like as of tonight, they've got plans for Lethal, which I guess left Creed out in the cold. Too bad; I like the guy -- and I liked the fact that he showed up out of nowhere as a last-second replacement for Pacman and then put on a great performance. Hopefully he'll be back.

As for the Nasty Boys, good riddance. Supposedly Knobbs was involved in an "incident" at a TNA function, although I haven't seen any confirmation or details -- but if Honky Tonk Man says it, it must be true! I'm a little disappointed that they weren't fired just for being sucky, though.

So TNA has lost two tag teams in one swell foop, but I think they can absorb the loss just fine -- they still have a half-dozen regular teams and a bunch of other pairings that make sense as well.

-----

Next week's Impact starts one hour early, at 8 pm. No word on whether it's permanent (depends, I guess).

-----

EARLIER TODAY! Hulk Hogan makes things up to Jeff Jarrett by giving him a match against AJ Styles tonight -- if JJ wins, he's the post-Lockdown #1 contender.

Jay Lethal arrives and does his shtick for Hogan, who's on his way to New York. Hogan plays along and tells Lethal he's in charge tonight (he's not, of course -- Hulk's just humoring him).

In the Impact Zone, The Band arrives -- Scott Hall and Sean Waltman are both wearing "BUBBA ARMY" shirts. And Bubba the Love Sponge himself is with them, and he's got a mic. Automatic FFWD. Looks like some brawling between the Band and Eric Young, Jeff Hardy, and Rob Van Dam -- these six have a steel cage match set for later tonight.

Doug Williams & Brian Kendrick vs. Shannon Moore & Kazarian: Shannon has his "Book of
DILLIGAF" on a chain around his neck. You know, I assume that the British Invasion is still a team, but TNA doesn't seem to think so -- I can't think of a good reason to have Kendrick out instead of Magnus -- nothing Kendrick's done thus far in TNA could be described as a "push."

And DAMN he gets slaughtered here. Good, high-energy stuff from all four guys. Shannon Moore spinkicks Kendrick while Kaz German suplexes him, and Kendrick just CRASHES and BURNS. He can barely crawl to his corner, whereupon Williams IMMEDIATELY tags him and drags him into the ring -- and Shannon hits the Mooregasm from the second rope for the pin.

Moore adds insult to injury by drawing on Kendrick's face after the match.

Eric Bischoff is here and he's got a new secretary -- Miss Tesmacher? Tessmokker? -- she looks like a Wrestlicious "Sexy Secretary" -- wow, that's pretty awful. I'm trying to figure out if her name is a sex pun but I got nothing.

Anyway, he wants Jay Lethal kept out of his office, but speak of the Devil. Lethal's working on the card for tonight -- "King Kong Bundy vs. Junkyard Dog!" -- and Bischoff sends him away to think of a Main Event.

D'Angelo Dinero is out to cut a promo against AJ Styles. The Impact Zone ADORES this guy. Chelsea comes out to distract him up close -- "is that a gun in your pocket or are you happy to see me?" Dinero, to his dick: "Calm down!" Taz: "Subtle."

Desmond Wolfe sneaks into the ring but the Pope was expecting this. He knocks Wolfe back out and then forces himself on Chelsea, smooching her and then dropping her onto the mat -- and then stuffing a Dinero Dollar down her shirt. I see now why TNA is bringing in new, non-wrestling girls like Chelsea and Bischoff's secretary -- they want to portray the Knockouts as strong women but of course they also need women that they can spit on and treat like meat. Classy.

SUPER CLOSE-UP of SAMOA JOE. Grainy footage that seems to be shot inside a cardboard refrigerator box -- cute, Joe made himself a fort! He says "They have spoken -- the results will be different." Ooh, different results. I don't think "brainwashing" angles are ever any good.

ORLANDO JORDAN is in the Impact Zone -- he's lowered from the rafters into the ring (how DARE they do that on a night that Bret Hart wore an "Owen" t-shirt!) and he's wearing almost nothing except yellow "Cross the Line" police-style tape wrapped around him. He crawls up the ramp and they reveal a set-up at the top with a couch and a girl and a guy sitting on it. Behind that is a bisexual pride flag and intertwined male-male-female symbols. Jordan sits down and...is not seen for the rest of the show.

So that trigger's been pulled. Here's a pic.

Daffney attacks Tara backstage and we get a premature start to Tara vs. Daffney: This is a First Blood match for the KO title. Tara drags Daff down some steps by the hair; Daff responds by wrapping cable around Tara's neck and dragging her up the aisle to the ring. Daff breaks a broom handle in half and goes to gouge Tara's face, but Tara fights her off, hits the Widow's Peak, and clobbers Daff in the face with a toolbox. That'll do it, barely. Daff's cut is up in the hairline and may just be fake blood.

BREAKING NEWS! Daffney has tattoos of masked wrestlers along her waistline! Check it out. Curry Man, La Parka, and Shark Boy (!?), among others.

Jeff Jarrett vs. AJ Styles: Styles has Ric Flair with him, in a wheelchair pushed by Chelsea. Hey, good match and, to be fair, the crowd is firmly behind Jarrett, with "AJ SUCKS" chants and "DOUBLE J" chants. I still don't want Jarrett to become champion, but it's tough to see where else this angle can go.

JJ can't pin Styles even after both the Pedigree AND the Alabama Slam, but he finally hits the Stroke off the middle rope. Unfortunately, ref Brian Hebner is laid out at ringside so Jeff only gets the Moral Victory.

Bischoff is out with a guitar to get his revenge on JJ. He doesn't get the kabong, but Styles takes advantage of the distraction to low blow Jarrett -- Styles Clash finishes it. Ha ha!

Backstage, Eric Bischoff convinces Jay Lethal that he should be in a match -- Lethal was too modest to bring it up his own self, but now that you mention it...

Jay Lethal vs. Beer Money: Lethal is surprised that he has two opponents -- no tags necessary, either. Beer Money beat on Lethal for a while before double teaming him with the two-man swinging slam. They should've used the DWI, because when James Storm wanders off to get a drink, Lethal surprises Robert Roode with a small package -- for the three count! Bischoff is disappointed by this result.

Desmond Wolfe vs. D'Angelo Dinero: Strange feud because Dinero really has other stuff on his plate, but he and Wolfe keep tangling. Since Styles and Wolfe are connected, it makes sense for Wolfe's goal to be to damage the Pope before his title shot at Lockdown, but they haven't really pushed that, which is weird.

Anyway, not bad, if too short. After some good back-and-forth, Chelsea distracts Earl Hebner (women are his well-established weakness) while Desmond wraps a chain around his fist, then knocks the Pope out for the win.

Kurt Angle is out and cuts an anti-Anderson promo. Mr. Anderson is out to rebut. Basically, they've got an escape-only cage match at Lockdown, right? And then NEXT WEEK they've got a ladder match -- and the prize in that match is the key to the cage door at Lockdown. Okay!

The Band vs. Jeff Hardy, Rob Van Dam, and Eric Young: This is in TNA's brand-new STEEL CAGE. It looks pretty good, with twelve panels, three per side. Eric Young gets the cage door slammed into his face when he goes to enter the cage, and he falls off the ramp.

Basic shenanigans ensue. Thank God for Syxx Pac -- Nash and Hall are old and slow, you see. Locked out, Young starts climbing up the outside of the cage, and by the time he reaches the top, the Band is all laid out. RVD frogsplashes Hall while Hardy swantons Nash, and then Young jumps from the top of the cage with an elbow on Waltman! There's the pin!

Hardy and RVD continue to work well together, and Eric Young was nicely spot-lit at the end. The Band, happily, got trounced pretty decisively.

But that's not all -- we've got a special announcement from cheerful, bouncy Abyss -- he's naming his first Team Member for Lethal Lockdown -- and it's...Jeff Jarrett. Hmph.

And that's it. It's my bedtime so I'm going to do a very lousy proofreading job tonight.

Miss Teschemacher is Lex Luthor's dim-bulb assistant in the original SUPERMAN flick, I believe. Bisch obviously has a very high opinion of himself.

Cool, thanks! I never would have caught that. Oh, I get it -- Bischoff is bald now -- ha.

Apparently she's played by Brooke Adams from WWE/ECW. I do not remember her at all.

That's the kind of thing that makes Bisch et al look like desperate Vince wannabes. There are literally thousands of women who could fill that role - why hire a Diva Search reject?

I guess it makes some sense to hire someone who's already familiar with the weird, wacky world of pro wrestling and won't be scared off by it -- like, say, Amy Weber was.

Still, is that a role that really needs to be filled at all?

Okay, I'm seriously going to bed now.

Role Reversal! It used to be me writing the recap and you doing the comments... let's see if the other way works out just as well. Of course I'd try my hand at the recap if I could just figure out exactly when I get TNA on my TV (it seems to shift time slots every week), but you can't have it all.

Good riddance, I say! TNA has a massively bloated roster to start with, which I believe is one of the chief reasons why the show sometimes seems to lack focus. Cutting the deadwood is good news. And I like Creed, but he hasn't really been relevant in months.

I wish I had the luxury of FF. As it turns out, BTLS has aligned himself with The Band (don't know why) and he will be conducting all of their interviews from now on because JB and Christy Hemme (pronounced 'emm') are just not good enough. Why are they called 'The Band' anyway? Why not just call them the Wolfpac - they have the music, they do the sign, it's hardly a secret. BLTS also called Eric Young 'Vince Young' during his promo, I thought that was worth noting.

See, this is why this man is money. I wish TNA would make up their mind about him, though. One week he's getting the big rub, then he's nowhere to be seen for the next two. Actually, that pretty much applies to all of TNA's midcard (again going back to the massive roster), except Joe, who's apparently living in a box nowadays.

I dunno, maybe it could work. The only thing I can draw comparison to is Goldust from the mid-nineties, and that worked out nicely for him. Then again, Goldust was good in the ring, on the mic, and motivated. Not sure about Orlando.

Oh no, no, NO! This is all wrong. You take the one thing I care about on Impact and you job them out to one man? Wrong, TNA, wrong.

See, that's the problem with the upper-midcard. They're all kind of connected in one big kibosh, but no one has real motivation to do anything for anyone. They keep introducing new people to the title picture every week without taking someone out - like JJ this week. He need not be near any title right now. I mean, where's Abyss? What happened to Pope's title shot? What happens when RVD and Hardy move into the main event space and start going after the title?

Oh good that you've cleared that. Joseph F Martinez over at 411 and I were terribly confused.

Overall an ok-ish show. Like your usual Impact. When will TNA learn to deliver a good show, and not a show where there are 2 great segments and 4 terrible ones? I can wait it out - I have that luxury since I get even their PPVs for free, and there's no such thing as too much wrestling, is there? For this week, though, it can't even hold a candle to Raw, which was just a much more solid show.

I was flipping back and forth between this and Raw. A couple of thoughts on what I saw. I loved Jay Lethal booking what looked to be a Wrestlemania III house card. I'm glad someone else got the Superman reference. The First Blood match was ok, but I get the feeling Daffeny is saving her best crazy bloody spot for Lockdown. Pope is someone who really benefits being in TNA. I will also add Desmond Wolfe to that as well since you see how poorly NXT is using their ROH talent. I think Pope needs some wins going into Lockdown, you could run in angle with him losing matches and then he wins, but that just looks bad. Beer Money is a good to great tag team, but Jay beating them was good. I think the IWC has a very high opinion of them. The way Jay won was good too since it wasn't as bad as other one wrestler beats established tag team matches. I missed the main event due to Shawn's very good speech plus I could give a shit about NWO 7.0. It sucks about Creed, but the Nasty Boys being gone is a good thing. The roster is too big and people like the Nasty Boys should be the first to go.

WTF. I think Bryan Danielson is perfectly happy being the centrepiece of his own one-hour show and feuding with the company's hottest midcard heel.

Daniel has been made to look like a punk. I understand he won't be voted off tonight and probably win the thing, but when you are 0-5 how the hell can you not be? He is the centerpiece of the show, but the show is terrible. Its like being the main course for all you can eat shit buffet.

I just really don't know what to say to that. Being Ric Flair's comical hole-falling flunky on a show that will likely be dead two years from now is better than being groomed to be a star in the biggest company in the world, apparently.

Just because you want TNA to be dead two years from now doesn't mean it will be. I personally can't understand that kind of thinking anyway becuse The WWE being the only game in town is horrible for Wrestling. TNA signed a three year contract with Spike a few months ago and Spike has an option of making it a 5 year deal. NXT is far more likely of being off the air than iMPACT. Syfy can't be happy that NXT is getting worse ratings than ECW did.

It's a reference to past versions of the nWo. When WCW re-formed the faction on 20 December 1999 w/ Hall, Nash, Jarrett, and Bret Hart on a Nitro in Baltimore, Nash grabbed a mic (post-swerve) and said:

"Baltimore, Maryland...THE BAND IS BACK TOGETHER!" (3:07 in...guess he's a Blues Brothers fan.)

That led WCW to sell nWo T-shirts with this modifed logo (that sadly, I bought.)

So because TNA can't legally say "nWo," they came up with this. (And the nWo has always done the Kliq handsignal since Hall and Nash left WWF for WCW. So that's just tradition...funny, 'cause the nWo told us 'Tradition Bites!'")

Contracts mean dick when TNA is essentially only kept afloat by its backer pouring money into the gaping financial black hole it has become. I'm not the only one predicting disaster in the near future.

Plus, my little bit of conjecture about Impact's future really doesn't change the point about Wolfe's prospects.

EDIT: And believe me, I'd like nothing better than for TNA to sack Bischoff and gang, throw money at Paul Heyman and try and make a go of it. But this '90s WCW nostalgia crap, with Hogan and Flair as the main characters on the show and Samoa Joe being turned into a joke and Daniels disappearing and on and on and on isn't doing anybody any good, and it's certainly not going to suddenly force WWE to book itself properly. Supporting one pile of crap in the hopes that it will make another, better-smelling pile of crap palatable is just crazy.

Bubba Army... really? As if The Band needed more reasons for cheap heat. Are they really that worried that fans might cheer them, that they need to align with him? Isn't he supposed to be Hogan's buddy, too? If Bubba is a bonafide heel but still friends with Hogan, I fear we have countless painful months of him acting as the go-between with Hogan and Bischoff in our future, and that would be a good enough reason for me to not watch TNA live so I can FFWD past all that shit.

So now Jay Lethal is the flavor of the week? In a way, I credit them for spreading the love around to a bunch of different people. But it's becoming such a clusterfuck that you can't even feel optimistic when someone you like gets a push (and I don't like Lethal at allll) because you know that any time they push someone, it's almost a guarantee that they'll be off your TV screen for a couple of weeks while they give someone else the "rub." TNA seems like they're trying so hard to elevate everyone into main event status but clearly they have no direction of where to go with them once they reach that point. Right now, there are about 15-20 guys who would all be credible as a threat to the title. There are worse problems to have than to have too many main eventers, but it seems like everyone's constantly just spinning their wheels until it's their week. They almost HAVE to do a tournament PPV or something just to get their money's worth out of everyone they have. TNA desparately needs a second show, but I don't feel confident they'd even know what to do with it. It would probably just amount to twice the Hogan/Bischoff/Flair/Styles/Jarrett that we're already getting.

I just don't understand the Jarrett thing. I get the feeling that he wants to cement a bigger legacy for himself, but it's at the expense of the rest of the roster who could benefit from TV time. There's no need for him right now when they have so many options. TNA could have an amazing product right now if they could only focus. It seems like Impact is being booked right now at a weekly ADHD convention.

I've been a big Pope fan up until this week, for some reason. To me, he was better before he and the announcers acknowledged how much the fans are behind him. Now I almost feel like he's buying too much into himself. If he were a heel, that would be about right. But as a face? Something just feels forced about it now. But that's probably just me.

Where did Chelsea come from? Has she worked in the business before? I don't really recognize her. Also, I may be in love.

Hardy & RVD looked great, and deserve to either be feuding, or have something going for them other than a half-ass feud with The Band. RVD sort of has Sting, but Hardy? Just another casualty of overcrowding...

Why does anyone like Shannon Moore? Please explain. And is it just me, or does Kendrick look like he hates his life more every week?

The Orlando Jordan stuff... *sigh*... OK, here's the deal: Yes, he is essentially Goldust 2.0. That's fine for what it is, and it really worked for Dustin. But to me, this is a whole other thing. Goldust was an enigma. You didn't know what the hell his deal was, he was always doing some crazy shit, and he weirded everyone out because they didn't come right out and say "he's gay" or "he's a transvestite" or "he's a drag queen." If they HAD said any of the above, it would have been cheapened and come across as desparate (see: Billy & Chuck once they "came out"). With Orlando Jordan? Cue the desparation. He can't get over on his own merits, so they decide to exploit his sexuality in order to give him some buzz. It'll work, sure, but not in the type of way that's good for a career. There are tons of entertainers who are openly gay or bisexual, but they don't define themselves by it because it may be who they are, but it's not ALL that they are. If this "angle" works, it's the worst kind of cheap heat possible. Take a man's sexuality, spell it out, expose it, play it to the heights of stereotyping, and know that people will boo the shit out of him for it. It's insulting to me as a wrestling fan and as a human being that they're presenting this in such an amateurish way.

You could say that he's going along with it, so it must be OK. I say that he just wants to do what he needs to to be successful. I doubt that if Triple H or Randy Orton were leading "alternative" lifestyles in the real world and were presented with this option for an angle, that they would ever allow it to happen. Why? Because they can afford to be selective.

You could also say that they're not presenting him as a heel, and they're leaving it up to the fans to cheer or boo him. But really? Even if they were to get behind him and cheer him for being eccentric (which we all know is not the expectation), it's based on something that's presented in such an immature way that it still is a discredit to pro wrestling. If this whole thing was done with more subtlety and less of a heavy hand, then I'd be just fine with it. I just can't get behind an angle that feels just as dirty to me as the Nation of Domination did back in the day. "Cheer/boo me for my race, religion, or sexuality" shouldn't be the focus of ANY wrestling angle.

Hopefully I haven't ruffled too many feathers here, but I just needed to get that off my chest. I don't damn anyone for disagreeing, I just feel strongly about it.

Pretty bleh show last night. Gotta give Russo credit for Evolving he went from putting dopey things on a pole to having a Ladder Match with guys climbing to grab a stupid key. Lance Storm bashed Mr. Anderson saying he's too flippant and and cutesy in his promos. I didn't notice it before but last night I did. The Anderson-Angle feud feels like it's gone on for years. I like Wolfe but The Pope should be kept strong going into his title match but Russo doesn't get back. I'm still not sure why they didn't face off at Destination X. Joe and The Nation of Violence is back eh? Will he be running around with a giant rambo knife again? Russo is the worst thing that's ever happened to Joe's career. I could be wrong but I don't think there was any mention of the whole Hernandez injury angle last week. No update no interview with Morgan. No mention of what may happen with the tag titles. That is pretty ridiculous. I'm glad they're gonna do something with Lethal I think but putting him over the Best tag team shouldsn't happen. Jarrett Vs Styles was a very solid match that got plenty of time. Angle is a face and Nash is a heel why are they friendly with each other? I get their history but still. The Main Event was at least short. I guess Eric Young ius now DDP. Bubba gets so much go away heat that it makes SyxX-Pac blush.

First of all you put some words in my mouth. I prefer Russo going instead of Bischoff and Heyman coming in. According to Meltzer and others TNA has been self sufficent the last few years. I never said TNA can put any pressure on The WWE because well look at TNA's ratings. I just stated the Wrestling business was pretty terrible(worse than now) when they were the only game in town. Raw was competely unwatchable in '02-03 and TNA was just starting out. For the most part I really like the TNA roster. I just hate the thundering idiots running the promotion.

The announcers did talk about Hernandez's injury on camera.

How could it be an angle? They said he had injuries that would take months to heal at best. He can't come back in two weeks and have people believe it.

My favorite part of TNA. This song is so great.

That's not entirely true. Most Universities require some form of book smarts... unfortunately common sense is not a requirement.
