TONIGHT: It’s the go-home show for the biggest PPV of the year, Wrestlemania. WWE Hall-of-Famer Pete Rose is your guest host in charge of the action. The odd-couple team of Triple H and Randy Orton face off against Sheamus, Cody Rhodes, and Ted DiBiase in a handicap match. Also, Batista and John Cena have some kind of confrontation. The final Hall-of-Famer for 2010 will be announced, and will we get any info on a possible Divas match for this Sunday?

-WWE Open.

-Raw Open.

-Michael Cole and Jerry Lawler opened the show by plugging the handicap match for later on in the show.

-“Sexy Boy” started up and Shawn Michaels came out. They showed Michaels superkicking Taker last week on Smackdown, after Undertaker beat Drew McIntyre. Michaels belted out that he had a feeling, the same feeling he had in January 1992, right before he threw Marty Jannetty through the Barber Shop window. The same feeling he had in March 1996 before he beat Bret Hart for the WWE Championship (boos for that), and the same feeling he felt when he kicked Taker’s teeth in last week. He termed it, “the feeling I can do absolutely anything.” That would include beating Undertaker at ‘Mania. Michaels talked about his new DVD out, just when he happens to be putting his career on the line. Sort of like his career is coming to an end. But he said it’s only the beginning. Michaels said he’ll no longer be known by his many nicknames after Sunday; instead, he’ll be remembered for eternity, the man who ended Taker’s Wrestlemania winning streak. Boos for that too. “In six days Dead Man, you are going to….” then the lights went out. A video package played of Shawn Michaels throughout the years. Then a voice-over saying, “Shawn Michaels’ career will Rest in Peace.” Then we got the tacky, “Shawn Michaels Career: 1985-2010” with pics of Shawn.

Back in the ring, Michaels had a bit of a smirk on his face. He said he appreciated Taker’s attempt to intimidate him, but if he really wants to, come out and do it to his face. Instead, Pete Rose came out to what sounded like the “MLB on FOX” theme. Pete wished Shawn good luck, but said Michaels is the right man to end the streak. Rose put HBK in a match against Kane tonight, same stipulations as Wrestlemania. What exactly does that mean? Rose said he wanted HBK to pay back Kane for all the stuff Kane has done to him. Apparently, the stipulation means only pinfalls or submissions count, clarified Cole. Rose was a bit stiff in his delivery there.

- A video package aired on John Cena vs. Batista. Then the announcers advertised their face-to-face confrontation, still to come tonight.

[Commercial Break]

(1) The Miz vs. John Morrison
Big Show joined the commentary team for this one. R-Truth accompanied Morrison, and got caught in the slo-mo entrance. “Pete Rows” sign in the crowd. Truth was also on commentary. Morrison tried to keep Miz grounded and had to break in the corner. Miz slapped Morrison and Morrison replied with some rights and a knee that sent Miz out of the ring. Springboard moonsault. Morrison landed on his feet, but it didn’t look like he caught much of Miz. They went to break at this point.

[Commercial Break]

Miz was sitting on Morrison’s back with a rear chin-lock. He took control during the break, tripping Morrison up on the apron. Miz missed a seated kick and Morrison rolled him up for two. Morrison was favoring his neck, something Cole brought up as an injury that could affect him at Wrestlemania. Morrison fought out of a side head-lock as Show gushed over Miz’s performance. Morrison fired away at Miz in the corner and the crowd was hot for his match. Miz caught him running in with a nice elbow to the side of the head. Running knee to the head by Morrison, but Miz kicked out at two. Morrison tripped up Miz, then went to the top. Miz crotched him there and but Morrison took over and hit a sunset flip from there on Miz. He followed up with a Starship Pain for the win.

Winner: Morrison, at 8:28. Good match with a hot crowd. More time than I figured they’d use to hype the tag match.

Show shoved Truth down after the match. He went to go into the ring, but was kicked by Morrison, he went in the ring to get revenge, but Morrison snuck out. Show was enraged as the challengers celebrated.

-Triple H was backstage getting ready for his match. He asked someone who was standing off camera, “what makes you think I’d want to talk to you?” It was Orton. Trips said he’d drop Orton where he stood if he messed with him tonight. Orton reminded Triple H that he’s still gotta make it to Wrestlemania.

[Commercial Break]

-Some San Francisco 49ers were shown at ringside. They did some play fighting and a lot of “you can’t see me” routines.

- They showed what happened at the Elimination Chamber PPV, where Batista beat John Cena for the title. They again hyped the final face-off tonight between Batista and Cena.

-Jack Swagger was dressed to the nines, doing guest commentary for the final MITB qualifying match. I wish WWE would’ve stuck to how many people they wanted in this match instead of wavering seemingly every week.

(2) Kof Kingston vs. Vladimir Kozlov- Money-In-The-Bank Qualifying Match
Kozlov with a single-leg take-down, then Kingston somehow back-flipped through the ropes and to the outside, defying everything I know about the law of physics. Kingston was again taken down once he got into the ring. Headbutts to the chest by Kozlov, then a belly-to-belly suplex. Are they really going to job Kingston here? Kick-out at two by Kingston. Cole did say that Kofi might not be 100% after the beating he took from Show last week. Cross-body was caught by Kozlov for a fall-away slam, shades of Scott Hall (from last night even!). Kingston held onto the rope on a slam attempt, and managed to counter the move. Crowd was chanting for Kofi, and he won with a surprise Trouble in Paradise.

Winner: Kingston, at 2:21. Clearly though, Kofi is still on the shit list, as the only offensive move he hit was his finisher.

-Still to come: Shawn Michaels vs. Kane, win by pinfall or submission only.

-But next, it’s Triple H and Orton vs. Sheamus, DiBiase and Rhodes.

[Commercial Break]

-They showed a graphic of Stu Hart going into the Hall-of-Fame at Wrestlemania. King said last week, we found out that Bret Hart was faking his injury. Hart will be on hand tonight for a final address to the WWE Universe prior to Wrestlemania.

-Cody Rhdoes and Ted DiBiase came out for their match. Rhodes got the mic when he and DiBiase came out. He said at WM, it’ll be every man for himself. But after 18 months, he and Ted are finally free from Orton. Well, they could’ve done it sooner. He said Orton didn’t really take them under his wing, as they would’ve been superstars no matter what. Rhodes said he and Teddy didn’t NEED Randy Orton; on the contrary, Orton needed them. DiBiase said that they don’t care which one of them wins at ‘Mania, just as long as Orton doesn’t. Rhodes said people used to say that Orton was the future of WWE, but he’s six years younger than Orton and three years younger than Ted. DiBiase shot Cody a look for that. Ted said people are just jealous of them. He said people weren’t born into a life of luxury like himself, and even Cody falls into that category. This time, Cody seemed unhappy with that one. Rhodes said he would be the winner. Again, a look from DiBiase that said he disagreed. Sheamus made his entrance and they went to break.

[Commercial Break]

(3) Ted DiBiase & Cody Rhodes & Sheamus vs. Triple H & Randy Orton
Sheamus was to start with Hunter, but he tagged out to Rhodes. Ah, a classic heel tactic. Straight right hands from Hunter, then a clothesline in the corner. Rhodes managed to escape his wrath for a second and tag DiBiase. He got his arm wrung by Trips, and Orton wanted a tag. Hunter failed to oblige. Face-buster on the knee by Hunter. He then took Sheamus off the apron and DiBiase was able to take control. Sheamus pulled Trips out of the ring and pummeled him a bit. He managed to tag in and worked over Hunter with boots in the corner. Irish hammer to the head and more rights from Sheamus. Crowd chanted for Triple H, but DiBiase tagged in. Quick tags by the heels while working over Trips in their half of the ring. Rhodes tagged himself in without DiBiase’s consent. Ted looked slightly perturbed. Rhodes whipped to the ropes, but he did his brother’s move, laying on the mat and punching The Game in the face while he was bent over. Finally, Orton tagged in, and he cleaned house on all three men. Back-breaker for Sheamus, and the fans weren’t shy about showing their appreciation. He set up for the RKO to a monster pop. Rhodes got on the apron though, and Orton tried a DDT on him. Instead, Sheamus clobbered Orton with a pump kick for the win.

Winners: Sheamus, Rhodes and DiBiase, at 5:01. I thought it’d go a little longer. About what you’d expect in five minutes from these guys.

After the match, Sheamus tried a pump kick to Triple H, but The Game got his heat back by clotheslining Sheamus over the top rope. They showed a replay of what just happened with the finish of the match, and the attack by Hunter.

-They aired Batista facing Cena the night after the Chamber PPV. The final face-off between the two men is still to come.

-Bret Hart was walking backstage. He’ll be out in front of the fans with a message for the Chairman, next.

[Commercial Break]

-Clips of last week’s contract signing between Bret Hart and Vince McMahon aired.

-Bret Hart came out to the live crowd. Cole said that WWE.com will be documenting Bret’s Wrestlemania week, beginning tomorrow. A “Bret” chant permeated throughout the arena before Hart even said a word. He said that when he came back to WWE a few months ago, he never dreamed he’d have another shot to go to Wrestlemania. He said he’ll get a chance he’s been waiting for for a long time. He said when he left WWE, he had a bad taste in his mouth. Bret said he has a chance to leave on a good note this time, because he got just what he wanted: A no-holds barred match with Vince McMahon, and that’s the greatest news he could ask for. He said he was sick of hearing “Bret screwed Bret,” and that starting next week, we’ll hear, “Bret beat Vince.” Bret said it twice, so of course, the fans picked up on it and began a chant. Bret said there will be a lot of Harts next week in Phoenix, as Stu will be inducted into the HOF. Could be interesting to see them all get involved in the match. Bret said Vince better keep watch out, because it’d be nasty to see what happens if his sisters got their hands on Vince. Bret said that Vince has driven half his family out of WWE (interesting…) but the Harts are sticking together. He brought up Shawn Michaels saying that only good things will happen if Bret returned. Hart said that good thing will happen at Wrestlemania. He mentioned the great matches he’s had at Wrestelmania, against Steve Austin, Shawn Michaels, Roddy Piper, Owen Hart (nice pop) and Yokozuna. His one promise to his fans, though, is that Wrestlemania 26 will be the best there is, the best there was, and the best there ever will be. And that is a promise. Really sounded like he was reading lines at times, but still not bad.

Mr. McMahon walked out as Bret’s music played. Vince said that this Sunday, one way or another, Bret is screwed. Then his music played. Vince smiled sneakily as he stood on the top of the ramp, staring at Bret, who was in the ring looking at Vince.

-Backstage, Shawn Michaels was walking when Pete Rose came up to him and wished him good luck. His match against Kane is next.

[Commercial Break]

-Lawler thanked Kevin Rudolf for “I Made It,” one of the many Wrestlemania themes.

(4) Shawn Michaels vs. Kane- Match Can Only End In Pinfall Or Submission
Kane went for a cover early and got two. Kane got Shawn up for a standing suplex, then dropped him down. The announcers used this time to talk about Taker vs. Michaels. We could’ve had a video package, even a quick one, showing why Rose has a problem with Kane. But then, I probably shouldn’t be asking for MORE video packages in this show. Chops by Michaels in the corner. Kane went to the top for a flying clothesline. Michaels grabbed his arm on the way down and locked in the Crossface. Kane turned over to try to get out, but finally made it to the ropes to break. Shawn walked into Kane grabbing him in the throat. Michaels locked in an ankle-lock. Kane again rolled over and to the ropes. Atomic drop by Shawn, then a chop. Flying forearm took the Big Red Machine down. Elbowdrop followed that. The crowd helped Michaels tune up the band, but then the lights went out and the gong sounded. When the lights came back on, Taker was in the ring, and Kane was gone. Undertaker chokeslammed Shawn. The lights went out and the bell tolled again. When it came back on, Kane was in the ring and Taker wasn’t. He went for a cover (no-DQ remember), but Michaels kicked out. Shawn fought out of Kane’s grip and superkicked him for the win.

Winner: Michaels, at 5:26.

-Clips from two weeks ago, where Cena fought Mr. McMahon. Batista and John Cena still have their final face-off scheduled for later tonight.

[Commercial Break]

-Lawler and Cole talked on camera about the celebrities who have been involved in past Wrestlemanias. Cole segued to talking about the celebrity wing of the Hall-of-Fame. Then we got the video of Bob Uecker, the final inductee into the 2010 WWE H.O.F. Clips of his MLB HOF induction were shown, as well as him in the movie “Major League.” Uecker will be inducted by NBC Sports Chairman Dick Ebersol.

-The announcers reminded viewers that Wrestlemania starts an hour earlier than other PPVs and to get ready for four hours of action. The announcers ran down the card.

-Rose and Christian were talking things up, with Rose saying he felt better than ever. He made a crack about the S.F. Giants for the live crowd. Then he opened the door to his office and a bright red light was shown. Kane grabbed Rose by the lapels and said he had something for him. Rose’s mouth was agape. Suffice to say, he was not happy to see Kane. The door shut and Christian listened to the cartoonish sounds the came from the office, making it sound like Pete was getting thrown around the place.

[Commercial Break]

(5) Eve & Gail Kim & Beth Phoenix vs. Layla & Michelle McCool & Maryse
The faces were already in the ring. They had Kelly Kelly and Mickie James in their corner. Alicia Fox and Vickie Guerrero accompanied the heels. Kim with a back-elbow on McCool, then a hurricanrana. Running clothesline for two. Gail went for her finisher, then knocked Layla off the apron instead. She rolled up McCool for two, and McCool countered with one of her own. Then she finished Kim with her Styles Clash finisher.

Winners: Layla, McCool and Maryse, at :57. They must’ve been running long on time for the show. This hast to be setting something up for ‘Mania, right?

-They showed clips of last week’s Big Show vs. Cena match, where Batista distracted Cena.

[Commercial Break]

-Batista was walking backstage with his herd of security. He faces off with John Cena next.

-Next week’s guest hosts: The cast of “Hot Tub Time Machine.” Well, two of them anyway. The young one, and Rob Corddry.

-Justin Roberts introduced Batista. Batista got on the mic and implored the fans to boo him. “Say hello to the bad guy,” he said. Interesting. He told the fans to get used to him being WWE Champion, because Cena will lose at Wrestlemania. He said that Cena will never beat him. He insulted the fans again and said that when he and Cena are in the same thing, bad things happen to Cena. He said the same thing will happen Sunday. Oh, and the arena was dark except for a light on the ring. Batista mocked Cena’s pet phrases. He said he’s the bad guy because he speaks the truth. Not much of a face-off thus far. Batista said he was there to win titles and money. He said when he sees the fans, he sees dollar signs. Doesn’t that mean it would be in his interest to be a babyface, so he can sell merchandise and make more money? He said he understands that fans hate him for his honesty, but they all pay to see him. He thanked them for paying to see his greatness, since they’ll never be great. Big Dave said that Cena will disappoint the fans at ‘Mania again. He then said he was done talking because the fans want Cena to come out and run his mouth. Cena was called out by the champ.

Cena walked out with his game face on. Batista stood behind his security troupe when Cena reached the ring. The fans picked up on it and began booing. Cena began by saying that he has already disappointed the people and let them down. That was the second Batista became WWE Champion. Maybe they were booing Cena, as a “you can’t wrestle” chant rained down on Cena. He took a long pause to take it in. Cena said the people have lost confidence in him, and he lost confidence in himself. He took issue with Batista constantly berating the fans, but he has tried to stop Batista and failed. He said he didn’t expect this from Batista. Cena said Batista isn’t good at his job and should be fired. He said if Batista was good at his job, he wouldn’t be surrounded by security. Cena said Batista can and will be beat. And if Batista isn’t going to make a move, he’s done talking. Batista threw down his glasses in anger and began yelling at Cena, calling him hand-picked and a paper champion. Batista made the mistake of walking closer to Cena, allowing Cena to attack. Security tried to separate them, then referees came down as well. Cena fought off security in the ring, as Batista was held back outside by referees and agents. Johnny Ace was there, as well as some black dude (do they have a black agent?). There were a few others on the outside I think (Tony Garea maybe?), but I couldn’t tell who they were. Batista stormed to the back as Cena was left in the ring to close the show.

The Undertaker does a good job putting together video packages, but he needs to learn how to use an apostrophe. It's "Shawn Michaels' Career."

I really enjoyed the Show on commentary. And Batista's douche-tastic promo at the end was awesome.

Also awesome - Pete Rose's hammy acting backstage when he saw Kane. And Kane's Ah-nuld calibre "Don't bet on it!" pun.

No Divas match and no dumb Kid Rock musical performance and no celebrity angle and no obvious waste of time Big Show/Akebono match implies that this might be the Wrestlemania with the least filler ever!

Could someone rundown the list of people going into the Hall of Fame for people who don't regularly watch (like me)?

I've got: Ted Dibiase, Wendy Richter, Stu Hart, Bob Uecker, and (Gorgeous) George Wagner, but aren't there usually 6-7 people?

You only missed Mad Dog Vachon and Antonio Inoki. A small group this year.

ZZZZZZZZZZZZZ.....that pretty much sums up Monday Night Raw and Pete Rose.

As soon as Pete Rose came out, I could already tell he was going to be a non-factor in being a special host; the dude had no character and was just about as exciting as watching paint dry.

The best thing about Raw was the solid match Miz and Morrison put on (which I expected out of these 2 as both are continuously rising in the company).

Kofi makes the final spot for the MITB at WM 26 which I expected because it just didn't seem right for the MITB match to have an odd number of participants and the MITB wouldn't seem as right without Kofi in it (too bad he had to face the non-existent Koslov to get in).

Legacy/ Sheamus vs Triple H and Orton wasn't too bad but as Geemoney said, it didn't last as long as one would expect but a halfway decent match for what it was worth.

It is always good to see HBK wrestle...........unless that is against Kane who has lost actual relevancy a long time ago. I was glad the match was relatively short (and man, Pete Rose was convincing on how he wanted HBK to get revenge for him.....being sarcastic of course).

As for the final face-off between Batista and Cena before WM, it wasn't bad; heel Batista is a lot better on the mic than face Batista and just flat-out more interesting to watch.

I am looking forward to watching The Million Dollar Man get inducted on Saturday as he is the main character going in (I would say Stu Hart would be the other relevant person getting in the Hall of Fame).

Next Monday should be pretty good because the Raw episodes after a PPV are usually worth watching.

And that's the real problem with the guest hosts for me: Most of them don't know the product or storylines enough to be functional in their roles. At least the actors they have come in are, you know, ACTORS and if they have some improvosational skills can at least fake it ok (Rob Corddry might be okay next week for just that reason). Pete Rose is *very* entertaining when he's talking about things he knows how to talk about. He used to make an annual appearance on the old local Paul Hornung show where both avowed gamblers would go over football lines for the week and crack wise on sports in general. He's just out of his element here.

How-evah kudos to him for allowing himself to play the fool against Kane for so many years, but I have a feeling that it's out of a desire for a quick appearance fee buck vs. being a fan of the product, which is why it doesn't feel as *fun* as it might otherwise. I did laugh when Kane grabbled him so I suppose it was successful on me regardless of my feelings on the guest hosts.

As someone who has watched sporadically the past few years, I'm not invested in Kofi Kingston one way or the other, so even I thought it was weird that Swagger was burying him while on commentary during his match last night, and not in a way I thought was good. He said he'd rather Kofi win because he wouldn't want Koslov in the MitB match?? Yikes. I certainly don't understand the WWE's thinking with this one, and not sure I want to.

I was doing some work/surfing the internet during the show and the pop Orton got when he came into the handicap match *made* me stop and take notice of what was going on. I've never been a big fan of his, but mainly due to things I've heard/read about his off-camera behavior, which probably isn't totally fair, but man, I think he may getting ready to clear that final hurdle and be the true star the WWE would like him to be as a Stone Cold type of character. Of course, I'm sure that just means he'll be feduding with Cena again after he wins the title at WM.

Looking forward to WM mainly for Shawn/UT and Bret/Vince (I thought Bret sounded very good on the mic last night, btw).

I don't think I have seen a weaker Raw going into Mania. I ended up watching more Impact then Raw which is odd since Impact has been a train wreck of late, yet somehow was better then this. I am just tired of the promos and the general laziness since Mania was booked about three weeks ago. Last week was good due to Bret/Vince/Austin and really Austin. I am still buying Mania and I hoping this sleep walking will not reflect in the booking this weekend. The Divas will be the dark match prior to Mania which is such a sad comment on the Women's division.

Are you sure they were talking to Cena?

I think the Vince/Bret angle from last week would have been much better this week. Vince realizes Bret is 100% six days before Mania seems like a lot better timing than 13 days before. The only thing I can think of is that it worked better for SCSA to be in that part. Swapping his and Rose's hosting weeks would have been ideal.

The only way Orton becomes the new Austin is if they do the double turn (ala Brett v. Stone Cold) with Cena.

Average go-home show, Mania should be nuts.

I think it's just having your shit together. They made their points strongly and have reiterated them since then. Doing more angles on top of that just dillutes things. Like how all the big matches for last year's show got worse as they went on -- HHH/Orton, Cena/Edge, Jeff/Matt, and Jericho/olds all peaked early and got worse the more stuff they did.

That's a bingo, Justin. Booking for booking's sake is ridiculous and leads to a situation like WM15, where the IC and Hardcore title matches meant absolutely nothing due to Russo's bout of ADD two weeks before the show. Or, indeed, TNA's current product.

This was a hype show - the hardcore fans and online community have already made up their mind to buy WrestleMania, so this was for those on the fence. The matches are booked, the card is ready, so leaning hard on the hype was absolutely the way to go.

A real snore of a show, almost entirely redeemed by that last segment. Batista was all kinds of awesome. I think this heel turn and pairing with Cena has really helped him get a better sense of character and learn how to work an audience. You can tell he's really enjoying himself out there. There were a ton of Batista signs in the crowd, and yes, I'm pretty sure the "you can't wrestle" chants were aimed at Cena. Cue a looong pause where you could tell Batista was amused to see what Cena would do with it. Cena even kinda acknowledged the chants by saying that the fans have even lost faith in him. But if there's one thing Cena can do, it's turn a crowd around. By the end of his promo, you couldn't help but root for him. The whole glasses thing was classic. I got a major Rocky IV vibe out of the whole thing, and it really worked for me. If you'd have asked me a month ago if I'd be clamoring to see a Cena/Batista match, I'd have said you were crazy. Now, I'm totally on board. Everything just clicked. The whole ending was ultra chaotic and made it feel real. And Batista just storming up the ramp and out was a great closing image going into Mania.

Once again, the guest host thing proves to be a double-edged sword. A great guest host can make a blah show into one worth watching (see: Barker, Bob) and a really dry one can make a slow one into a disaster (see: Rose, Pete). He had absolutely no enthusiasm for anything. For the last guest host going into the big show, they needed better.

Christian chats it up with Rose, then watches as he gets murdered by Kane. Was that a heel turn?!?! Heh...

Miz & Morrison continue to bring the awesome. If neither of them is in the main event picture by next year's Road to Wrestlemania, I'll be really disappointed.

With the way he's been booked the past couple of months, hearing JACK freaking SWAGGER bury Kofi was an exercise in irony. Whose wife did Kofi sleep with? Unless adding Kofi at the last second was a way to not telegraph him winning MITB, they've turned sour on him astonishingly quick.

I still can't get into HBK/Undertaker. So shoot me. I'm sure it'll be a great match, but after delivering an interesting premise, they've done nothing more to get me excited. To me, they're both going through the same motions they have been for years. Especially in the Undertaker's case, I just think it could have gotten down to a much more personal level. But as is, he's pulling all the same tricks he has been for every other opponent he's ever had.

No, because Christian was on the crowds side on being happy about Rose getting the shit kicked out of him for the put downs he made about the Giants. The normal face reaction would be that Rose definitely had it coming for what he said about the Giants, and that's why Christian gave that grin while listening to Rose get beat up.

Are you sure they were talking to Cena?

I thought it could've been directed toward Batista but the crowd didn't start to chant it until Cena came out, despite the ample time they had while Batista was in the ring. Also, the chant happened while Cena was talking, not Batista.

Did Kane come out to the ring with that lump under the eye or did that happen during the match?

Swagger was answering a question and did not bury Kofi - he was asked who he'd prefer to face and he said Kofi because he wanted no part of Kozlov, not anything related to Kofi. Swagger sucked on commentary so it may have seemed like a bury job, but that's not the vibe I got from it at all. There's been so many cases of 'I'd rather face this one because I don't wanna face the other one' that I can't believe that's even an issue.

I thought he was trying to put Kozlov over as a threat which in turn puts Kofi over when he wins, but like you said Thhhwagger sucks at commentary and screwed it up.
