The world is not watching apparently, as we skip over the WWE intro entirely and go straight to a recap of the Chris Jericho/Edge feud.

SmackDown! - Let it roll!

Boom go the fireworks! Wrestlemania is three weeks away. Tonight, Edge goes one-on-one with Big Show.

We start off with Edge, as we get a recap of his win over The Miz last Friday. Promo time! Edge reminds us that Wrestlemania is 23 days away. He's concerned about Chris Jericho, because he talks a big game and keeps getting speared. Edge promises more spears and gets a "spear" chant started before Big Show's music and pyro interrupt. The big guy comes down to the ring to formally interject himself into the promo proceedings.

Edge calls Big Show a depressing surprise and deduces that he's here to avenge The Miz. Edge tells Show that his spear's next. Show points out that he and Miz will be watching to see who gets crowned #1 contenders for the tag titles tonight. Show tells Edge he got lucky against Miz and that his luck will run out tonight. Edge wonders if Show plans to eat him. Show tells Edge that he eats pieces of crap like him for breakfast and even the crowd knows what's blatantly being set up here. Sure enough, Edge responds with the old "Happy Gilmore" line, "You eat pieces of crap for breakfast?" Edge, again, promises a spear before faking Show out. "Spear" chant gets started again. Show charges Edge like a blind moose and flies over the top rope when Edge ducks out of the way. Play Edge's music! Man, the wheels kinda fell off on that promo as soon as Show interrupted.

Backstage, Drew McIntyre joins Teddy Long. McIntyre demands Kane's win over him last week get scrubbed from the records. Long reads a prepared statement from Vince McMahon, stating that McIntyre's loss has been formally scrubbed. McIntyre gets another shot to enter the MitB match, but he'll have to beat Matt Hardy first. McIntyre offers a handshake, but Teddy Long walks away. A total dis, playa!

Wrestlemania is 23 days away!

DREW MCINTYRE v. MATT HARDY (W/JUSTIN GABRIEL): MONEY IN THE BANK QUALIFYING MATCH
We get highlights of Justin Gabriel's 450 splash from NXT this past Tuesday. We start off with a lockup and both guys are separeted in the corner. We get another lockup and McIntyre takes control. He whips Matt into the ropes and elbows him down for 2 before we hit the chinlock. Matt quickly fights his way out of it, hitting armdrags, and getting a near fall off a schoolboy. McIntyre goes back in with a kick and headbutt, before whipping Matt for an attempted backdrop. Matt counters with a kick and clotheslines McIntyre out. Matt gives chase, but McIntyre's able to catch him with a shot in the gut. Hardy gets dropped ribs-first onto the barricade. Matt's able to beat the 10 count, as we go to break.

We're back with McIntyre hitting the ever-thrilling chinlock. Matt fights back, but the Side Effect is countered with a hangman's neckbreaker for 2. McIntyre goes for a slam, but Matt shakes out of it and tries to set up what looks like the Twist of Fate, but McIntyre counters that into a Northern Lights suplex for 2. More restholds from McIntyre. Corner charge eats a Hardy boot, but Matt gets caught trying to go up. Second rope superplex is blocked and Matt chucks him to the mat. AAAAAHHHH second-rope elbow connects. Matt goes for the Twist of Fate, but McIntyre tries to counter into the Future shock. Matt backdrops out of that and goes for the Twist of Fate again. McIntyre's able to counter again and tries the wheelbarrow pin, but Matt's able to reverse it into the 3 count at 8 minutes shown.

WINNER: Matt Hardy - This is probably Matt's biggest win in months. I don't get what they're doing with McIntyre right now. Are they really going to give one of their secondary champions a losing streak angle? McIntyre throws another post-match tantrum.

Backstage, Slam Master J's watching John Morrison's fancy parkour training regimen and compliments Morrison on his amazing moves. Morrison's a bit taken aback by J's abs. That bit of awkwardness is thankfully interrupted by R-Truth walking into the picture. Truth introduces Morrison to David Otunga, as they're apparently getting along again after last Tuesday's blowup, though tension is still clearly evident. Morrison and Truth have one last chance to go to Wrestlemania, via tonight's #1 contenders match for the tag titles. Truth's apparently come up with names for their team. Dis and Dat? Two Times What? Black Magic and the White Shadow? Rock and Rap? Truth simply settles for "Unified Tag Team Champions". Maybe Truth should get tag team naming lessons from Al Snow.

Later tonight, Rey Mysterio faces Luke Gallows.

WWE Smack of the Night shows Shelton Benjamin upsetting CM Punk to get into the MitB match, thanks to a little help from Rey Mysterio.

"THE GOLD STANDARD" SHELTON BENJAMIN v. DOLPH ZIGGLER
Ooh, this should be good. Lockup starts us off and Shelton gets a side headlock. Shoulderblock follows. Dolph tries to kick Shelton and gets caught with a right hand, as Dolph just continues to entertain me with his mannerisms. Grisham points out that this is Shelton's fifth MitB match. Corner charge from Shelton misses when Dolph leaps over and applies the sleeper hold. Jawbreaker gets Shelton out of that one, but the Stinger Splash misses. Gorgeous Bob Holly dropkick gets an audible "OHH" from the crowd and a 2 count for Dolph. And we hit the chinlock. Shelton tries to fight out of it, but Dolph hits a hangman's neckbreaker for 2. Jumping elbow gets 2, despite Dolph's devastating scream. Dolph whips Shelton into the corner and goes for a catapult, but Shelton's able to do a front flip and land on his feet (though looking a bit off-balance) and catch a running Dolph with a reverse backbreaker. Both guys trade punches, but Shelton's able to hit some shoulderblocks, but telegraphs a backdrop, allowing Dolph to get in a kick to the face. Clothesline's countered into a bridged German suplex for 2. Dolph's able to lure in Shelton and knock his head into the corner before applying the sleeper hold again. Shelton tries to counter with a back suplex, but Dolph lands on his feet. Dolph gets caught going for the Zig Zag and gets catapulted into the corner. Paydirt will end Dolph's night at 4:30.

WINNER: Shelton Benjamin - These two guys put on a great show with the little time they were given. I wouldn't mind seeing them go again, because this match was a lot of fun.

Later tonight, Edge meets Big Show one-on-one.

Hype for HBK's new DVD "Shawn Michaels: My Journey".

Later tonight, the #1 contendership for the tag titles will be determined in a Triple Threat match between Morrison/Truth, Cryme Tyme, and The Hart Dynasty.

JIMMY WANG YANG v. EZEKIAL JACKSON
Poor Yang gets no entrance. And oh joy, I get to recap an Ezekial Jackson match. No ECW belt for Jackson, as that title's officially gone by the wayside. Jackson overpowers Yang and yells a lot. Yang tries a sunset flip, but Jackson picks him up by the throat. Yang shakes that off and hits a seated dropkick. Yang runs right into a powerful Jackson shoulderblock that gets Yang busting out the 360-degree oversell. Choking follows. Corner beatdown. Yang desperately hits some boots to the face and a kick to the backof the head to rock Jackson back to the corner. Yang hits a corner spinning heel kick and goes up top. Jackson catches the top rope cross body attempt and The Book of Ezekial will finish at 1:45.

WINNER: Ezekial Jackson - Yang sold like a champ here. Jackson looked VERY imposing, so he's got that going for him, at least.

Backstage, Rey Mysterio shills presents his new action figure to his daughter before Tiffany walks in. Tiffany's apparently babysitting while Rey wrestles his match tonight.

The Straight Edge Society comes out for Luke's match. CM Punk doesn't have a Slammy in hand, but he DOES have a mic. Promo time! Punk tells us that Rey Mysterio's popularity stems from parents' inability to be role models for their children. Children cheer for Rey Mysterio to fill the void left by their parents. Punk tells us that Mysterio's no superhero, but merely a neglectful parent. The people cheered Rey's cowardly act last week beecause they are also cowards. Punk admonishes Rey for not facing him man-to-man and, instead, taking cheap shots and costing him his chance to be a three-time Straight Edge MitB winner. Punk assures Luke that the loss last week was not his fault, but wants Luke to make Rey answer for what he did last week. Punk tells Luke that he's fighting for the entire Straight Edge Society tonight.

LUKE GALLOWS (W/CM PUNK & SERENA) v. REY MYSTERIO
Match starts with Gallows asserting his power advantage with punches and kicks. Rey tries to fight back by going low to the knees, but Gallows hits a back suplex and starts stomping away. Irish whip into a clothesline misses and Rey gest the headscissors, though he walks into a Gallows flying shoulder tackle right after. As Gallows takes control, we get a look at Darren Young watching from backstage. Methodical punches and kicks from Gallows, as the match just slows down all to hell. Rey counters a backdrop with a kick and suckers Gallows into a blind charge before pulling down the top rope. Man, did Luke not learn anything from Big Show earlier tonight? Punk tries to get Luke's head together, as we go to break.

We come back with more slow Gallows offense. Gallows takes Rey on the apron and whips him into the corner post. Gallows military presses Mysterio back in and continues his plodding offense. He whips Rey into the corner and hits a belly-to-belly suplex for 2. Now we get a chinlock. Rey tries to fight back, but walks into a fallaway slam for a near fall. Now we hit the bear hug to REALLY pick up the pace. Rey fights back and Gallows misses a corner charge. Rey comes back with a springboard drop and a springboard cross body for 2. Gallows gets a clothesline from his knees, but only gets 2. Gallows tries to power Rey up, but Rey counters with a seated facebuster. Rey goes up, but gets caught. Rey's able to shake off Luke and goes for a flying axehandle, but gets caught with a shot to the chops. Luke hits a gorilla press gets 2. Luke scoops up for a powerslam, but Rey tries to counter into a Tornado DDT. Luke seemingly powers out of it, but Rey actually has a front face lock submission applied. Wow, Rey's busting out the submission moves tonight! Gallows reaches the ropes, but before he can gather his senses, Rey chop blocks him into the 619 position. Rey goes for the 619, but Serena gets on the apron. Punk tries to sneak up from behind, but Rey spots him. Luke's able to take advantage of the distraction, but Rey counters the powerbomb and falls on top of Luke for the pin at 11 minutes shown.

WINNER: Rey Mysterio - Punk runs in and tries to scoop Rey up for the GTS, but Rey shakes out of it and takes Punk's leg out from under his leg! The match got good towards the end, but Luke's offense is an insomnia cure.

We go backstage to...oh, here we go! It's the JERISHOW REUNION! Chris Jericho congratulates Big Show on winning the tag titles with The Miz and generally kisses up to Show. Jericho wants Show to destroy Edge and says that Show owes it to him. Show tells Jericho that he doesn't owe him anything and that it's always been all about Jericho. Show says this victory is all for him, not for Jericho. Jericho gives a sheepish grin to end the segment. Ah, as good as I thought it would be.

Raw Recap

JOHN MORRISON & R-TRUTH v. THE HART DYNASTY (W/NATALYA) v. CRYME TYME
We get a recap of the silliness between Truth and David Otunga on NXT this past Tuesday. We start off with Morrison facing off with Shad Gaspard. Morrison starts off with punches and kicks before trying to whip Shad into the ropes, but Shad...has...THE POWER! He quickly takes control and tries to scoop Morrison for a slam, but Morrison shakes away and gets a boot to the face. Springboard cross body block is caught and Shad hits a spinebuster for 2. Shad takes control, as we go to break...at less than a minute in. Oh, come ON!

We come back with JTG hitting the chinlock on Morrison. Cryme Tyme keeps working over Morrison, including a double team avalanche. JTG's able to get a spinning elbow, but not before Tyson Kidd makes the blind tag. JTG knocks Kidd on his ass, which prompts him to tag DH Smith. Smith is able to catch Morrison before he tags out and goes to work on him. Smith hits ROLLING BELLY-TO-BELLY SUPLEXES, culminating with a released one for a third. Nice addition to the Smith moveset! That impressive display gets a 2 count. Smith goes for a vertical suplex, but Morrison flips out of it and applies the side headlock. Morrison gets pushed into the ropes and we have a double collision, as both guys hit their coconuts. Cryme Tyme try to make blind tags, but Smith tags Kidd who knocks both Cryme Tyme members off the apron. Kidd's not paying attention to Morrison, though, and he's able to tag in R-Truth. Truth's a house afire. He gets his token backflip/splits counter and hits Kidd in the chops with a superkick. Smith breaks up that pinfall attempt and things start to break down when Shad and Smith trade blows. Morrison gets a cross body block on Smith and Shad, sending all three of them to the outside. JTG tries to sneak up on Truth from behind, but gets knocked off the apron. Kidd tries to take advantage of the distraction with a springboard dropkick for 2. Kidd picks up Truth and whips him into the ropes, but gets caught with the Lie Detector and that'll send Truth and Morrison to Wrestlemania at 9 minutes shown.

WINNERS: John Morrison & R-Truth - Honestly, this is the best way I can think of to get Morrison and Truth both featured at Wrestlemania. I don't give them much of a shot against ShoMiz, though. Here's hoping they play up the history between Miz and Morrison for the buildup. Truth does a post-match breakdance. Morrison tries to do one of his own...and looks awful. No wait, I spoke too soon, as Morrison gives us a hell of a Spin-a-rooni! Booker T would be proud!

We go backstage to Vickie Guerrero and Simply Flawless. Michelle compliments Vickie on her slapping of Piggie James, as that angle just won't die. Michelle and Layla present Vickie with a Simply Flawless T-shirt before Beth Phoenix sneaks up from behind. Michelle and Layla complain about an odor before they notice Beth (as they just get classier and classier) and slink off. Beth asks for a title shot, looking noticeably meek in doing so. Vickie denies her request. Beth goes for the intimidation look, but to no avail.

Wrestlemania card recap.

The Big Show makes his entrance for the main event.

THE BIG SHOW v. EDGE
Edge tries to hammer away, but gets greeted with headbutts and choking. Edge hangs Big Show on the top rope to stagger the big guy, but runs into a big shoulderblock. Chop to the chest and more choking. Show tries to continue his assault on the outside and scoops up Edge, but Edge falls back and pushes Show into the ring post. Edge tries to hammer away back in the ring, but gets another headbutt. Big bodyslam and even more choking. More headbutts and Show mixes things up with a clubbing blow. And we hit the chinlock, as I hit the Red Bull to try and keep myself awake. Edge tries to come back with punches, but gets scooped and slammed again. Show takes too long in setting up the Vaderbomb elbow and misses. Show goes for a corner charge and eats a boot. Edge goes for a second-rope Tornado DDT, but gets shoved away. Show goes for another charge, but if he hasn't hit one all night at this point, he's not going to hit one now. Sure enough, Edge gets a drop toehold, knocking Show's head into the turnbuckle. Edge gets a second-rope bulldog for 2. Edge tries to counter a Show scoop into the Edge-O-Matic, but gets chucked by the wrists to the mat. Show's signature AAAAAAHHHHHHH calls for the chokeslam and he gets the goozle. But the chokeslam is countered into a very ugly DDT. Edge sets up for the spear and the crowd's totally into the "Spear" chant now. Edge hits the spear and that gets the pin at 5:30.

WINNER: Edge - Bad match, as Show was way too slow on offense and things didn't look particularly better when Edge was in control. Crowd's way into Edge, though, which is a good sign for the PPV.

Post-match, Chris Jericho tries to sneak attack Edge with a Big Gold Belt shot, but Edge ducks and spears Jericho yet again. Stryker goes "SPEAR, SPEAR, SPEAR" to give me Heyman flashbacks. Edge takes the mic and starts up another "spear" chant. Jericho takes his belt and walks away to end the show.

FINAL THOUGHT - If there's a complaint to be had about the Edge/Jericho feud, it's that it's WAAAAY too one-sided right now. It's been all Edge and considering Jericho doesn't have much chance of retaining at the PPV, the E's in danger of turning this match into a foregone conclusion. They need to inject some suspense here, stat! Dolph/Benjamin was great and the Triple Threat Tag was pretty good, but Rey/Gallows and Edge/Show were borderline terrible thanks to the sluggish pace of the big guys. Decent show, overall.

Does that remind you of Jericho's other WrestleMania main event?

...I suppose that at least we should be grateful that Stephanie isn't in it, and Jericho's not picking up dog poop.

I thought the show itself was pretty good.

I don't see Jimmy Wang Yang being around much longer and I just about completely forgot about him until he had a match against Zeke.

I don't mind Drew McIntyre but when his loss against Kane last week "never happened", it just seems quite stupid and makes McIntyre seem less credible. Thoughts of Jericho and Triple H run rampant when the phrase "never happened" is used. I figured he would lose to Matt Hardy as he has been a staple in Wrestle Manias and I hope this loss stays....officially.

Shelton Benjamin facing against Dolph Ziggler was a good match as you had 2 athletic wrestlers competing against each other.

I thought the match between Rey Mysterio and Luke Gallows was actually pretty good considering you had a big guy versus a smaller guy which normally turns out to be a bad match when those type of people wrestle.

The triple threat tag team match was alright and the WWE has done nothing with the Hart Dynasty which makes me wonder how much longer they will be around or if either of them will be brushed out of the WWE due to its "spring cleaning" with wrestlers.

Edge against Big Show was alright and you can't expect a good match anymore when the Big Show is wrestling one-on-one. And I would agree that in the Edge/ Jericho feud, the whole thing has been one-sided thus far which makes me wonder if Jericho will pull off the "upset" at 'Mania.

Overall, a good show with really no terrible matches (this Smackdown was a lot better than the 20 minutes of action they had on Monday Night Raw). A lot of things to consider leading up to Wrestle Mania in a few weeks.

I think the hair/mask aspect of Rey/Punk has been postponed. Which makes sense since this will be the first big match in the feud and Rey (ostensibly) has to leave for the knee surgery he postponed in November. It wouldn't fit for Rey to beat Punk, take his hair, do the injury writeout, and then come back for revenge with the ultimate stakes already having taken place.

A few thoughts, as I actually watched this show.

-The whole "match never happened" thing was really lazy. I mean, Kane beat him cleanly, no? There was no explanation for why Vince overturned the match and no reason given for it. I get that they're trying to make Drew look weaselly, but he'd look even more weaselly if some stupid reason is given--the lights were too bright or not bright enough, or something.

-It's kind of a shame that they didn't do *something* with the ECW title heritage, if only unifying it into another belt.

-Punk telling the kid in the Rey mask that he only liked Rey because his own parents were neglectful was some darn good old-school heelery. The kid just needed a basketball for Punk to kick away and it would have been perfect.

-When Kidd knocked Cryme Time off the apron, why wasn't that considered a tag? Ah, they've probably done that plenty of times before, but it still bugged me. I think The Game has a point--if they aren't giving the Hart Dynasty any kind of push or rub while Bret's around, there's good reason to suspect they won't be employed long once he's not.

The other to consider here is - if there's are matches on WrestleMania which would be cut down because of other matches needing time, this one's pretty high on the list. (Maybe just the tag team title match is more likely.) A CM Punk/Rey Misterio hair vs mask match might be the third biggest match on another PPV. It's going to be no better on 7th on this one, makes more sense to save it for another day.

That's all assuming that the match makes the PPV. Remember, we all thought the UNIFICATION match between Miz/Morrison and the Colons was going to be one of the highlights of the show at this time last year, and they ended up bumping it to the fucking pre-show.

I actually think Jericho has a very good chance of retaining at the PPV. All the other singles matches are strongly tipped in favor of the faces (Bret's a foregone conclusion; UT all but; Cena should be considered a strong favorite because Batista won the last time they faced off and it's freaking Cena, the franchise of the organization; and if Rey/Punk is hair vs. mask like we're expecting, FUHGEDDABUT Punk winning) so they can put Edge/Jericho third from the top and have Jericho weasel his way to a retention easily, especially if Edge continues to dominate affairs.

While the switch from Cena to RVD should alleviate some complaints, the inevitability of the belt's return to Cena (note where Summerslam is this year) and the poor initial showing by the new ECW are enough to keep the indicator where it is for now. The pieces are in place, though, especially on RAW, for improvements to be made to the IWC's psyche in the near future.

The presence of the Big Show in this match is probably the saving grace for Miz, Morrison and Truth. Show is a top guy, a main eventer. He was the special attraction with Mayweather two WrestleManias ago and he challenged for the World Title last year. I would be shocked if a Big Show match gets left off the main show. They'd kick the Divas off the show first.

Sad is that is, the WWE thinks Big Show is still a top guy and a main eventer. If it weren't for Jericho and Miz, Big Show would look a lot less relevant in the mix right now. Big Show cannot put on an interesting one-on-one match anymore and he (along with Kane) are cures for people with insomnia.

I agree. The feud Show and Cena had last year buried any interest I had in Show wrestling singles matches anymore. Putting him in tag teams is a really good use for him; he gets to wrestle in spurts and can look the monster he's supposed to be.

Show still has a lot of charisma. He can still cut promos, he has personality, and he can be funny. He also interacts very well with others, as evidenced by his weird relationship patter with Jericho and his current partnership with Miz. I wouldn't consider him useless by any means, but his matches from the last year haven't been at the level of when he was ECW Champion.

Regardless, he has been in WWE for 11 years, he's a multiple time world champion, and he made his name in the Attitude era, plus he's a giant - 7 feeet, 500lbs! He's huge! - so he is a Top Guy. And Top Guys don't get cut from WrestleMania. He'll bring those three young little dudes along with him - and they should all thank Show profusely for it.

After the appearance of Rey's daughter on Smackdown, I thought it would be an awesome turn in the feud for her (or Dominick!) to join the Straight Edge Society against their father to build up the Wrestlemania match (and inevitable rematch at the next PPV).

I'm surprised that the Hart Dynasty hasn't been part of the feud, especially since they started in that direction right before January 4th. But I didn't think you could do the angle without Michaels being a part of it either, and they got him out of it immediately and he's been completely independent since then. It seems like the thinking was to focus entirely on Bret vs. Vince and hit that hard, while tying Cena and Batista into it a little bit to make it contemporary for the younger fans.

Maybe Bret will do something with the HD after the Vince feud is over, if he feels like coming back for a bit. I don't think they have to worry about their jobs though. Even if they weren't really good and nice to have around, WWE collects second-generation wrestlers, so if you're one of those, you have to really blow it, like Manu or Sim Snuka, to get them to get rid of you.

The Hart Dynasty have a good, solid tag team but are missing the "it" factor (if someone could specifically point the "it" factor out, it would be appreciated). I think for a heel tag team, they are missing a bada** attitude that can allow people and tag teams to branch-off and make a name for themselves. It would also help if either person on the HD had some mic skills.

The main reason I said they have a chance of not being employed that much longer is the Hart Dynasty is in the realm of irrelevancy. Even if you are a 2nd generation wrestler, the WWE may throw you to the curb unless you are or near 7 feet tall and have a dominant presence (though I do agree being a 2nd generation wrestler does grant you more leeway in terms of staying with the WWE).

Show probably still could with the right motivation. Charisma and size can go a long way. Kane, well, his role at this point is to make the newer guys look good, and it seems he's done well in that role. I wonder what sort of big men you'd think can put on an interesting match.

What sort of big men can put on an interesting match? None right now (except for 'Taker but he is close to being completely done).

I will agree that Big Show has done a good job with his role to make newer guys look good (it is working for Miz but as for Jericho, he wouldn't be considered new since he has actually been in the business longer than Show). Miz is looking good with Show but his charisma has already carried him into "future main-eventer" status.

After Show's feud with Cena, I lost any interest in Show in terms of one-on-one action. I also think it also due in part of WWE management. These days, Big Show looks more like a big joke with less credibility. Going back a few years when he had his feud with 'Taker and Brock Lesnar, he looked like a very credible wrestler as he was more of a monster heel than just a heel who fights mechanical bulls and looks less credible in other ways.

Granted, the WWE is a kids show now but there are ways to make Big Show look credible without making a complete mockery out of him time to time.
