Four medals for Canada today! Woo hoo!
Holy shit. I decided to get up (Central Euro Time) and watch this game, ready for a classic. I did not expect this. The Russians where nowhere to be found, got outplayed every single shift. Their three goals were just incidental, because it felt like they never got any real pressure on Canada.
Combined with Sweden losing (sure, Slovakia is good but still an upset imo) the road is now clear for Canada to advance to the finals. USA or Finland await.

Ladies and gentlemen, the following public service message is brought to you by your friends from D-Generation X, who would like to remind each and every one of you that if you're not down with that, we've got two words for you... With the men's hockey and speed skating pursuit teams guaranteed no worse than a silver, the U.S. will at worse equal its all-time high of 34 medals from Salt Lake. The short track skaters (Ohno and Reutter) have excellent shots tonight to win medals and set a new record, though.
smark/net attack Advisory System Status is: Elevated (Holds; June 18, 2006) While the switch from Cena to RVD should alleviate some complaints, the inevitability of the belt's return to Cena (note where Summerslam is this year) and the poor initial showing by the new ECW are enough to keep the indicator where it is for now. The pieces are in place, though, especially on RAW, for improvements to be made to the IWC's psyche in the near future.

Cheap call in my view; it's pretty obvious that Ohno's hand didn't actually cause the fall. Just to point out: Judge is Canadian; skater that benefited from Ohno's DQ was Canadian. But whatever...

The end of the women's gold medal curling game, with Sweden seeming to be out of it in the tenth end, salvaging a tie, and then stealing for the win in the eleventh, was one hell of a sports moment. I wasn't even rooting for anyone, and I had goosebumps.
Three medals for Canada in short-track speed skating yesterday, two of them gold, when added on to the curling silver, has made this our most successful Winter Games.
It's hard to imagine, given the whole nation was in endless hand-wringing and debate just a week ago. Three more medals are guaranteed, and if a couple of them can be golden, we'll end up top of the standings in gold medals. Regardless of the outcome, I hope we'll be able to look back with a sense of pride in both the event itself as well as the effort of our athletes.

I don't see how these Games were anything but a huge success for Canada. Even when we were 'struggling' in the first week, we were still averaging better than a medal per day. Yeah, some of our medal favourites didn't place, but we also had our share of underdogs rise up for surprise medals. The 14 golds won by Canada is a new Winter Olympics record --- not too shabby at all.
Kirk, crackers are a family food. Happy families. Maybe single people eat crackers, we don't know. Frankly, we don't want to know. It's a market we can do without.

Completely agree with you, given that I can now look back with the 20/20 hindsight. My worry was that if the men's hockey team lost earlier today, that's all people would remember and the prevailing mood would have been negative. I'm glad that we didn't have to face that issue.
I'm really looking forward to the closing ceremonies tonight, apparently we (Canada) will be making a little fun of ourselves, and of course it will be wonderful to see Joannie carry in our flag.

The one the CBC lost the rights to and can't actually USE on that show any more?
(Not that anyone clued Bob Costas or Al Michaels in on that. Another stellar job, NBC idiots.)
CBC doesn't have the rights to that song, but they also didn't have the rights to broadcast these Olympics. These Olympics were broadcast in Canada by "the consortium", a group of stations owned by Rogers Canada, including CTV, Sportsnet, and TSN. TSN does have the rights to that theme, so there were no issues in its broadcast.
That part of the closing ceremonies was brilliant, and a fun send-up of Canada. Mountie rockettes! Table Hockey! Giant beavers! A flying moose! William Shatner! We loved it.
The second part, featuring Nickleback, Avril Lavigne, and other mainstream Canuck acts - not as enjoyable.
Tragically Hip, Arcade Fire, Feist, Sloan, what's left of Barenaked Ladies....all of these would've been better musical choices than tonight's selection. (Except Neil Young, of course.)
That said, giving a clearly buzzed William Shatner an open mic to discuss canoe sex? WIN.
