It looks like it's my turn again. Well -- given my new system (hit FFWD when the average age of people on-screen exceeds my own) and the fact that my VCR quit recording with 20 minutes still to go, this will be pretty slapdash.
Mr. Anderson vs. Brutus Magnus: "Mr. Anderson" seems to be the name they're going with -- dropping the "Ken" -- according to TNA's roster page (onto which, I notice with some dismay, they've added Bubba the Love Sponge).
Anyway, Anderson wins this "8 Card Stud" qualifying match. Magnus doesn't get a ton of offense, but he gets on a small roll and goes for the Tormentum -- wow, I had forgotten about that. Mr. Anderson rakes the eyes and hits the Mic Check for 3.
Mick Foley hits the ring and Eric Bischoff soon follows. Of course, I'm FFWDing by now but let's drop in for a moment -- ah, Foley is saying how much he loves the pro wrestling business and Bischoff is an outsider. He really kind of rips him apart. Foley tries to walk off but Bischoff -- who holds Jeremy Borash and Abyss' careers in the palm of his hand, he says -- makes a NO DQ match for tonight between Foley and Kevin Nash.
Jeremy Borash is here to pick up his last check. Abyss needs consoling but Borash isn't up to it.
Team 3D vs. Matt Morgan & Hernandez: This Tag Team Title match is a pretty even matchup, with M&H playing the power game, something 3D doesn't have to deal with that often; nevertheless, 3D have the experience edge, as Taz points out.
3D has things well in hand and are setting up the Whazzup when the Nasty Boys run (for certain liberal definitions of "run") in and shove Devon off the top turnbuckle. Ray is distracted and Hernandez pushes him right into the path of the Carbon Footprint -- three count and it's over.
Nasty Boys come in for the beatdown but Morgan and Hernandez chase them off. Team 3D is appreciative -- mutual respect!
Jesse Neal vs. Samoa Joe: This is the first we've seen of Neal since Team 3D's unexplained face turn. Bad break for Neal, who had nothing going before that angle and has nothing left now. Mike Tenay mentions the USS Cole and Taz says, "The USS Cole? That's a VINTAGE ship!" Is that in bad taste?
What probably tastes really bad (segue!) as far as Neal is concerned is the taste of SQUAAAAASHHHHH. Joe has his way with him until Neal manages to get his thumbs in Joe's eyes. Neal goes up top for a crossbody and Joe does his casual saunter away as Neal bellyflops -- I love that! Hundred-hand slap, high knee in the corner, Muscle Buster, three count.
Christy Hemme and Hulk Hogan? I have to do some math here to see if I should watch this...nope, sorry! FFWD.
D'Angelo Dinero vs. AJ Styles: This is non-title. Styles has Flair with him. This is a fun little match -- not as high-flying as I was expecting (and weirdly bereft of "signature" moves), but still. I'd like to see them get a PPV title match down the line.
Ending sequence comes when Styles rakes the eyes (a theme tonight) and connects with an enziguri, but misses a charge and eats turnbuckle. He collapses on the second rope and the Pope goes for the Chocolate Mousse (his version is called "The Coronation," says Taz) but AJ moves and the Pope crashes to the mat. Styles goes for a suplex but Dinero reverses it into a small package -- for the win! That's an upset.
Flair and Styles attack Dinero but Samoa Joe charges in for the save. I have no idea who's face and who's heel anymore. This is the first time Flair's gotten physical in TNA, and he get tossed over the top and onto the (elevated) ramp. Styles and Nick Nolte's mugshot Flair escape up the ramp while Joe tells Styles (and the world!) that he's using his Feast or Fired title shot at Against All Odds!
Nash and Bischoff -- that's a FFWD even before Bischoff kicks Eric Young out of the room.
Kurt Angle vs. Tomko: Another "8 Card Stud" qualifying match. Tomko never really has a chance here. After getting kicked around for a while, he gets in a powerslam and, for some reason, goes up top, allowing Angle to race up and suplex him off. Angle hits two German suplexes before Tomko escapes, only to eat an Angle Slam, which only gets two (really!?). FIVE MORE Germans and then an Anklelock, with an immediate grapevine -- Tomko taps.
Nash asks Hogan to give Sean Waltman and Scott Hall another chance, but Hogan is extreeeeemely dubious. I know, I should be skipping this.
Okay, this is where my VCR cuts out, so I missed the rest. Q&D results:
Tara vs. Angelina Love: I think this was a title match. Tara wins with a rollup.
(So think about this: the D'Angelo Dinero vs. World Champion AJ Styles match is at the halfway point of the show, and your Main Event is...)
Mick Foley vs. Kevin Nash: No DQ. Nash wins with a boot to the head after Foley is distracted by...his cartoon drawing of him and Abyss? LOL WUT
Hall and Waltman run in afterward and attack -- wait for it -- KEVIN NASH. Even if my VCR was working, I would've skipped all of this anyway, so no big loss. How was it for the rest of you?

TNA has gotten to the point where I think they are ready for the spin-off show. I say this because, I am want to see MCMG, the X-Division, Wole, some Knockouts and others on my TV. TNA has done a great job of getting talent, but they use it in a luke warm way. Granted, I thought the high point was Pope/AJ to Joe's promo. The problem really isn't the wrestling per say, its the fact that we don't need to have the Band. I do think once they are gone which is hopefully soon, they can work on the rest of the show. Its too much time spent on certain wrestlers. Raw has this problem as well.

They could call it TNA Impact From Two Months Ago! Not very snappy I guess.

On their worst day, Randy Orton, HHH, HBK and Cena are a million, billion times better than 2010's version of Nash, Hall, Foley and the Nasty Boys.
I was referring to Angle, Hogan, Bischoff and Abyss. Foley has mic skills which is all he needs and I still find him interesting which is more then I can say with most of the Raw roster. Edge and Brett had the best mic work last Raw and they are not even full timers. Shawn has been good too, but his non-facial expressions and actions that has sold his storyline.
I just keep hoping the Nastys are done after their "dream match" with 3D, and that Hall is also only around for a short term run. That's the only thing keeping me from bitching too much. At least we haven't seen Steiner in a while. The rest of the older guys I can live with. At the same time, younger guys were featured in prominent roles on this show. AJ, Joe, Anderson, Morgan/Hernandez, and Pope all were made out to be big deals last night, and most nights. So anyone saying only old guys are getting the spotlight aren't really paying attention.
"I like your Christ, I do not like your Christians. Your Christians are so unlike your Christ."
I'm not a Mr. Anderson fan so I'm dreading his participation in the tournament since I could definitely see him being set up to win it. His match was okay though. Team 3D vs. Morgan/Hernandez was fine too.
That actually made for a pretty good show until the main event. I don't mind multiple segments for Angle and I found Bischoff/Hogan trying to convince Nash to give up on Pac/Hall to be kind of intriguing. There was definitely too much Bischoff/Foley/Abyss but we also got two segments of the old Samoa Joe.
Scott Steiner, who hasn't been used since the Hogan/Bischoff regime kicked off on 1/4, was removed from the TNA roster on their website last night. Steiner actually flew himself to Orlando on 1/4 to be in attendance at the live Impact, but hasn't been at television since.

Oh, I see. Then I'd still take Triple H, HBK, Cena and Orton over that quartet, one of whom never has been a wrestler and another of whom barely qualifies as one today.
Saying Raw has the same problem because both shows dedicate a large amount of time to a small number of people is insane. Raw has no problem. The guys they dedicate time to help them keep ratings steady and sell an absolute shitload of merchandise. There is luminous green evidence of this every Monday.
TNA just spent oodles of cash in the hope of growing their brand, and if you think they're going about seeing a return on their investment the right way then......well.....I respectfully disagree, but more power to you I guess.

I wouldn't say only old guys are the only ones getting the spotlight, but there's still altogether too many people on the show for whom walking to the ring appears to provide serious challenges due to excessive weight or age. Or both.
I have more of a problem with the shows being a disjointed mess the past few weeks though. TNA was never great for concise, linear storytelling but ye gawds they've been excelling themselves lately. Which brings me to.......

Noooooooooooooo!!!!
If we must have a show that is so completely all over the shop, why why WHY would they take away the gentleman responsible for the most outstandingly rambling upside-down-inside-out-left-is-right, balls-out nutty promos today?! Who in TNA is going to step up to the plate when a pogo stick needs bounced upon, or manly-manness needs to be proven by threatening Bobby Lashley's 18-month old son?
If ECW weren't being shitcanned I would have loved to have seen Steiner show up there, just to talk nonsense. Keep him away from the real wrestling shows, sure, but maybe as a GM or something on the third brand.
2 weeks down the road we find out Hogan has been with Waltman and Hall all along. OMG SWERVE~!
The only reason I watch this show is because somehow, and I am embarrassed to admit this, I became a huge Mr. Kennedy mark. If he wasn't in TNA, I would never watch this crap. I cringe throughout the entire show.
Tara (Victoria) wrestled with a nipple showing...and *didn't notice it*. It was out all through the match and through the post-match shenanigans (as The Beautiful People attacked Angelina Love, and Tara briefly hesitated before making the save). Before anyone gets too excited, the TNA production people DID notice, so they blurred out her chest whenever it was visible, but it was clear what was going on. I don't know whether to admire or scorn the fact that she wasn't aware of it--I kept expecting her to adjust her top, but she didn't.
Taz hilariously kept referring to the picture of Foley and Abyss as a "photograph". If you haven't seen it, suffice to say that it's not even slightly realistic.
What's the difference between an 8-man tournament where you need to win a qualifying match to get in, and a 16-man tournament? Just sayin'.
There's a perverse part of me that wants Hall and Nash to settle their differences in an 800-meter footrace. It would be the strangest hour of wrestling television ever. B^)
I watch NBC and then "Archer" on Thursday nights, so by the time I remembered this show was on, I caught the last half hour - which I guess means everything Karlos missed. ;-) I saw, what, three minutes of wrestling action between the women - no, wait, it was more like ONE minute, an ad break, another ten seconds, ANOTHER ad break, and whatever was left. I can't imagine this technique actually makes for good television for ANYBODY. (I DID wonder what all the blurring was about - surely they can show the word POISON on a top without "hello, David McLane" calling) And all this was AFTER a seemingly endless recap involving some interchangable blondes taking revenge on some other interchangable blonde - or was it the other way round? Actually, one was Love, who was in the match, so...oh, it was to explain the postmatchery, which ran almost as long as the match time we were deigned.
But even that was an epic compared to the "main event." Did the Foley/Nash no DQ match even break the two minute mark? Seriously, I think it started at about 9:55 and there was all that brilliant post-matchery they had to shoehorn in.
Wasn't somebody here talking about how proud Bischoff and Hogan were to be helping Russo write in nonlinear fashion, as opposed to that obviously linear style he was previously using? I.....can't find a right person in that bunch at the moment.
I'm sure I'm just being too hard on TNA because I'm in the tank for the WWE, though. Surely the first 90 minutes had all the gold.

I don't see how anyone can say that. Yeah, Pope beat Styles this week, but he also lost to Orlando Jordan cleanly two weeks ago. WWE hasn't put Sheamus in that position (jobbing cleanly to a nobody) at all since his rise to the top. In other words, WWE has protected Sheamus a lot better than TNA has protected Sheamus.

I don't understand, are you complaining that her nip slipped, or that you didn't get to see it?
Trunzo, (sorry, I don't know how to do multiple quotes) I said it last week, and am not afraid to say it again. I like Anderson too. He looks and acts like a star, and that goes a long way.
Amos Cochran, The young guys I mentioned at least all wrestled in decent matches, which I would rather see than multiple backstage sketches. But I do see what you mean.
"I like your Christ, I do not like your Christians. Your Christians are so unlike your Christ."
I had the Victoria thing chalked up as a logo that either wasn't paying TNA or filed a cease n desist against TNA. I didn't see anyone's eyes bugging out in the impact zone and i'd figure they be all over that.
Originally posted by kentish I don't understand, are you complaining that her nip slipped, or that you didn't get to see it?
I didn't mean to be complaining about anything...just expressing surprise that her nipple appeared to be out but she didn't seem to be aware of it. While also making clear to all the people who drive up the "Gail Kim naked" hit counts every month that they aren't going to get anything in that vein off a tape of the show. (Well, if a brief glimpse of a blurred but vaguely dark area gets you excited, go to town.)

While I'm being about 15% facetious, I will say that Sheamus sure looked good beating Randy Orton at the Royal Rumble....
Look, I get the fact that TNA is right now somewhat of a monkey circus when it comes to booking, and I'm resonably sure that he'll lose to Damien Demento or Big Bully Buisik next week. but at least they made for one segment The Pope look like a world beater and on the level of a guy that everyone can agree is a great wrestler. Meanwhile, the WWE CHAMPION can't even get interfercence pinfall wins on PPV.
