I'm so GD happy to have Lost back.

Sayid Jarrah, I presume? Or is that Jacob inhabiting Sayid's body the way the Smoke Monster is walking around as John Locke?

"It worked." I take Juliet's last words to mean that by detonating the bomb, the flash created a concurrent spin off, Not Lost, where the original Oceanic 815ers minus Shannon, all got to LA and get to have all new adventures where some of them still randomly meet each other.

The shot of the Island underwater was awesome.

What I don't get is if it's 2004 again in Not Lost, why is Jack's hair long? Why doesn't he have a buzz cut? (I hope the answer isn't "We couldn't figure out a wig for Matthew Fox to wear on Lost, so we didn't buzz his hair in the Not Lost scenes.)

The flash also set Juliet to a new life in New York as an FBI agent and single mom leading a resistance against alien lizard Visitors.

I liked that they worked in Frogurt and Arzt. And I liked that even in an alternate life, Boone and Locke got to meet and had a brief little friendship that didn't get Boone killed (yet?). And in this life or the next, the Marshal is still a gigantic tool. But why was Desmond on Oceanic 815 flying from Sydney to LA?

I was also trying to follow the logic of why, if Hurley, Jin, Kate, and Jack were hoping to bring dying Sayid to the Temple for a crazy magical cure, they didn't bring Juliet's corpse for the same crazy magical cure? The easy answers are Sawyer wouldn't hear of it and Jacob didn't say nuthin' to Hurley about bringing Juliet's body along, but still.

I like that even after all this time, there are still elaborate locations on the Island to newly discover. The Temple set was cool and I liked the one armed skeleton of the Frenchman still in the tunnels. Though for some reason the Others in the Temple still dress like Peter Pan and the Lost Boys. How does Others hierarchy work where some get assigned to lead cushy barrack lives while others live in the Temple of Doom and wear rags?

I have to say, I never saw it coming or had any thought in the direction that the Smoke Monster is a person and is in fact the nemesis of Jacob. That was a great reveal. But when Sayid, Jack, Kate, and Jin were in the Temple tunnels and they saw the Frenchman's corpse, Jin said "the smoke monster" got him. I've completely lost track of which characters have seen the smoke monster and know it's a smoke monster. Won't they be surprised when they find out more about the smoke monster.

The day-for-night changes were weird. Sayid was laying in the van dying for an awfully long time while the others got the mess with Juliet in the hole sorted out. Same with Richard and the group waiting outside the Four Toed Foot, hanging there clueless long after the team Elena sent in were murdered by Smoke Locke.

I can probably think of more questions but the promo for next episode said THE TIME FOR QUESTIONS IS OVER. So okay, I guess I'll just happily eat up the answers.

Why did Jacob hire bunch of hippies and ninjas to guard his temple? I can deal with finding every thing else out latter but this is kinda bugging me.

Who are you to doubt Toshiro Mifune and John Lennon?

Don't forget all the psychic kids and Cindy the Stewardess.

My favorite thing may have been seeing that the Others have a lazarus pit.

There are some spoilers for future episodes in this interview with the writers that I wish I didn't read but I was right about the 2004 scenes being a concurrent show alongside the show.

As always there are too many things to sort out and discuss, but there's one interesting thing I think I picked up on. Or maybe I'm overthinking it like I do with almost everything with this damned show!

So normally when they do the flashbacks or flashforwards on LOST, there's a very specific sound that goes along with it. I'm not sure how to describe it but if you've watched this show before you know exactly what I'm talking about. It's kinda deep and foreboding.

However, I think with every single flash this episode, when they'd go from island scenes to 2004 airport scenes, instead of that deep foreboding sound we got that high pitched squeal we heard all last season while the LOSTies were traveling through time. That has to be significant, right? Right?? My guess is that the LOSTies are somehow skipping back and forth through time (maybe back and forth between alternate universes?) but they aren't conscious of it.

So Juliet's role was that because she was one of the people unaffected by the bomb changing history, she could tell everyone that the bomb did indeed change history??? I need to rewatch her brief scene with Sawyer again to see just what she says.

I LOVE Smokey/Locke's dialogue. Especially his loaded retorts to Ben (sorry you had to see me like that) and his analysis of John Locke. Weird watching Terry O'Quinn talk about Locke in the third person on the show itself.

I liked how Sayid's *death* was reminiscent of Jack and Kate trying to save Charlie back in season 1. I'm surprised Jack gave up so quickly this time. I'm pretty sure that Sayid is Sayid because Miles had a reaction to Sayid which suggested he knew he was alive because he couldn't read his last thoughts.

I agree about why not bring along Juliet, although technically she died before Sawyer could get her out of the hole. Still, if I'm Sayid, I'm pretty pissed that they left me comatose and bleeding out for so long.

Will any ash stop the smoke monster or is there something special about what they are using?

So Jacob had one final list with everyone's names on it. Hurley was awesome communicating with Jacob.

At some point, if the bomb did work, then everyone still has to wind up on the island, right? That's got to be what Desmond's role is. Being uniquely special, he's the only person not on the island who's going to know that he needs to get everyone together. Makes sense that he'd be on flight 815 then...

Jack and Sawyer's 2004 hair is funny, but I guess since they left themselves enough leeway with the bomb changing things before the flight, then their hairstyles are also victims of Jughead...

You believe me, don't you?
Please believe what I just said...

I have to say, I never saw it coming or had any thought in the direction that the Smoke Monster is a person and is in fact the nemesis of Jacob. That was a great reveal.

It had been assumed/unoffically confirmed that the Monster could take other forms, but when NotLocke was revealed last season, people just assumed that all of the ghosts of the Island (Christian, Yemi, etc.) were actually the Man in Black, not Smokey. Seems obvious in hindsight that the two were one in the same, though this just raises more questions: how was Ben able to 'summon' the Monster to attack Keamy's swat team? Does it have any real control over its transformations into the Monster? What was that thing that Bram was holding in his hand (a pebble? a marble?) before NotLocke returned in smoke form to destroy them all? If the Nemesis was indeed the one trapped in the cabin (as the ash circle would seem to indicate), then how does that explain the several appearances of Smokey that we saw before the ash circle was broken?

But when Sayid, Jack, Kate, and Jin were in the Temple tunnels and they saw the Frenchman's corpse, Jin said "the smoke monster" got him. I've completely lost track of which characters have seen the smoke monster and know it's a smoke monster. Won't they be surprised when they find out more about the smoke monster.

*Jack saw the thing spiriting away when it tried to pull Locke into the hole (in Exodus) and Rousseau chased it away with dynamite.

*Eko and Charlie: Saw it during Eko's staredown.

*Juliet and Kate: Saw it when they were handcuffed to each other, which is when we also learned that the Monster is hurt by the fence.

*Sawyer, Hurley, Claire, Locke, Miles and Ben all saw it when it attacked the freighter people at the Barracks.

*Jin saw it when it attacked the French expedition team.

So that leaves just Sayid, Sun and Frank as the only living cast members who haven't see Smokey in smoke form at one time or another. Though I recall someone once mentioning that Charlie had described the creature to people back at camp, so everyone seems to know it's "a column of living black smoke."

I thought it was a flattened bullet, proven to be worthless on NotLocke.

Great couple of episodes, and I am definitely hooked for the final season. I have a theory on what is going on with the parallel storylines, especially after reading the EW article, and I'll be interested to see if it pans out this season.

Oh! How could I forget?! The look that NotLocke gave to Ben in the last 10 minutes of the episode when he said "I want to go home" might just match the awesomeness of John Locke's Evil Squint(tm) from "Whatever Happened, Happened" last season. Or at the very least it scared the poop out of me.

I dunno, the special effects looked kind of cheesy to me ... Same with the Smoke Monster attack, the FX crew has done better work in previous episodes IMO.

By the way, I played "4-8-15-16-23 (42)" in yesterday's lottery jackpot (megamillions.com) ... Didn't win, but at least that means I'm not cursed ;)

That reminds me of possibly my favorite moment, Hurley talking about how nothing bad ever happens to him. Glad to see the mirror universe paying off for him.

You know what I like best about Not Lost? The original 815ers are back in their purest form as characters. On the Lost we've been watching for five seasons, everyone either dead or irrevocably scarred, but we get the treat of seeing everyone The Way They Were when we first met them.

And kudos to the cast for all staying fit (and Hurley for staying fat) and hardly aging over the last 6 years.

Now, we need to know where the missing characters were who are supposed to be on Oceanic 815. Where are Michael, Walt (probably will never see him; he's the only one who's aged), Ana Lucia (on Pandora) and Mr. Eko?

I was so happy when Kate was in the tree. A season solely of "the plane trip went fine...but somehow, they still end up all together on the Island!" would've been disappointing.

Neat parallel haven't seen mentioned:

Originally: Charlie died due to lack of oxygen
Now: Charly nearly died due to lack of oxygen, was pretty sure he was supposed to have died.

In both worlds, The Marshal takes a nasty shot to head and starts gushing blood.

Also, Seth Norris is the pilot in both timelines. I thought maybe in the new timeline, Lapidus would've been there, seeing as how he was supposed the pilot originally.

I’m glad to see the return of the Others’ raggy clothing, but WHY are they dressing in raggy clothing?

Terry O'Quinn was just fantastic (in both roles).

I’m dying to see how the story of the Man In Black plays out, because I’m more confused than ever about the Smoke Monster. Remember, the Smoke Monster resides underneath the Temple. And it has been referred to as the Temple’s security system. So, what is the question we’re supposed to be asking here...As long as Jacob is alive, the Smoke Monster is not a threat TO the Temple, despite the fact that, you know, it’s living right below it and should (theoretically) be able to attack at any time? But once (if) Jacob is killed (which should never be able to happen without a loophole) all hell breaks loose? Does Jacob being alive allow the Others to "control" Smokey?

And how does what we know now (not much) reconcile with what we knew (not much) about the cabin? Who was in the cabin? Did the cabin’s circle of ash keep Man In Black in or out? Who is the figure that Locke and Hurley saw? And why was Christian’s body inside the cabin?

Remember when Locke first saw the Smoke Monster he said it was pure and white. (Or something of that sort)

Perhaps Jacob and Nemesis both have alternate form smoke creatures?

Or perhaps the loophole let him take over the smoke monster?

I think that reveal opened up too many questions.

It's pretty cool how they're playing off the same parallel universes idea that they used in the Star Trek reboot.

I think we can chalk a lot of the discrepancies between what Locke saw when the smoke monster took him and what people saw at the cabin as being part of the MiB screwing with everybody while trying to put his pieces into play against Jacob. They did make it clear last season when Jacob's "bodyguards" found the cabin that

a. the circle of ash had been broken at some point
b. that Jacob hadn't been at the cabin for a long time.

So it seems logical, to me anyways, that it's been the MiB in the cabin manipulating every one all along.

I don't know if the Others and Jacob really ever controlled the Smoke Monster and the Man in Black. I'm thinking there's some elaborate, ancient, system of checks and balances that allowed Ultimate Force of Light (Jacob) and Ultimate Force of Darkness (Man in Black) to keep each other contained. That is, the good guy has always done enough to make sure the bad guy doesn't get out of line or too powerful and vice versa.

Which would sorta' tie everything to the show's recurring theme of ying/yang, black/white, good/evil, duality, or however you want to interpret it.

Moving on, after watching the alternate universe timeline, it's a good thing that the LOSTies crashed. To me, their "regular" non-crash lives were/are about as exciting as a subpar episode of any prime time drama. I'm sure this alternate stuff will eventually lead to some form of pay-off, but for now it's rather annoying.

I didn't watch all of the "pre-show" recap. I tried to get the Main Squeeze to sit through it, but she bailed after the first segment. "The narrator is annoying". Good point, as I think it was a bad idea to have Ben Linus narrate the recap. Or they could've just run Hurley's brief 10 second summary from last season's opener!
