TMZ is right on top of it...

WWE wrestler Chris Jericho was arrested at a gas station in Kentucky early Wednesday morning after cops say he and a fellow wrestler were both "extremely intoxicated" in public.

39-year-old Jericho was taken into custody in Kenton County around 5 AM for "alcohol intoxication in a public place."

Jericho -- who was arrested along with fellow wrestler Greg "Hurricane" Helms -- was forced to smile for cop cam -- and TMZ obtained the mug shots.

Jericho and Helms were released on $120 bond -- each ... no that's not a typo.

I don't see this affecting either guy, in terms of their standing with WWE. I do find it a bit funny that they got off so lightly.

New update at 10AM:

Crescent Springs is roughly 20 miles from Cincinnati, where the two men participated in a WWE event on Tuesday night. .

Well, at least neither were driving.

I think this means Bill Watts would be OK with it. They were together, but they were fighting each other (???), so kayfabe is still alive.

I'd imagine that for pro wrestlers, "fighting in a cab" is probably just horsing around. This looks like a non-story to me.

Edit: Just read the update. If other people were struck, then obviously this is a bigger deal.

Meltzer updates:

TMZ.com reported today that Gregory Helms allegedly hit several people, including a woman, before the arrest of himself and Chris Jericho at a Shell gas station on Buttermilk Pike in Crescent Springs, KY, just outside of Erlanger, KY, at about 5 a.m. Wednesday morning after the Smackdown/ECW TV tapings.

Police spoke to several members of a group traveling together in a taxi that included both Helms and Jericho. They alleged Helms struck three people, Jericho, Gary Kelley and Ashley Storer and then ran from the scene. He then returned to the gas station where he and Jericho were arrested for public intoxication.

Helms was not charged with assault because none of the alleged victims would press charges, which is a requirement in the state if police have not witnessed the attack.

Storer told police she didn't want to press charges. Kelly told police he was thinking it over.

"It's hard to say exactly how in depth this fight was," said Kevin Gilpin of the Erlanger police, which responded to the call. "There was a disagreement while they were inside of a cab. When we got there, obviously they were out of the cab and made contact with the police, and were arrested a short time after that."

Both wrestlers were cooperative when the poolice arrived and have court dates pending. Both men were released at about 7 a.m. after posting $120 bond.

Okay so what did Jericho do that got him arrested besides having a couple of drinks? Hit a cop?

Drunk in public. One of the dumbest reasons to get arrested.

Welp (tmz.com):

WWE wrestler Greg "Hurricane" Helms allegedly smacked several people -- including a woman -- before he and Chris Jericho were arrested at a Kentucky gas station yesterday, law enforcement sources tell TMZ.

What a wonderful mental image. Drunken pudgy Matt Hardy tearing down the street as fast as he can to get away from the police. I hope he yelled "CHEEZIT! THE FUZZ!" before he took off.

I'm pretty sure public intoxication is not heavily punished anyway - I think what happened to them is pretty standard for such a charge. Now, I've since read in this thread that Helms hit people, and that certainly complicates matters, but simply being drunk in public is not that big a deal.

I can see Hardy screeching down the street, receding hairline ponytail whipping back and forth as he does that "hobble" run he does in a match where his opponent has been working his knee all night.

I'm hearing Ron White say this.

I'd say turn this into an angle with someone eventually joining Punk, but Jericho doesn't need to do that, Hurricane is most entertaining in his current persona, and Hardy is best as a face.

Current headline on ProWrestling.net (via A1Wrestling):

"Hurricane Helms is no longer the Superstar of the Day"

Brilliantly worded, becaused it made me laugh and sad at the same time. I feel sorry for him. :-(
