This is one of these shocks ... one of those "I just don't know what to say" moments. A lovely lady I've known since I was a teenager has died.

Georgiann Makropolus, who, when I started watching wrestling was the President of the Bruno Sammartino Fan Club, Buddy Rogers Fan Club and so many more. I got to know her well and so recall her friendly attitude and smile to everyone who came in contact with her. When my dad used to come to the matches with me she always got up, no matter where she was sitting, to give him a big hug. It made him feel so special. She made everyone feel special.

I used to look forward to getting her printed fan club bulletin "The Wrestling Chatterbox" every time it came out. I was a regular on her mailing list. I still have and will cherish many of those issues. Georgie worked here at 1wrestling.com for many years and I used to love to read her gossip columns and news about autograph signings. She did that better than anyone else. She went onto continue her work, spearheading www.wrestlingfigs.com.

To all of us she was just plain "Georgie." I will miss Georgie very much. It's a very sad day.

Today, the wrestling world lost a true gem. Personally, I lost a very special friend. It is with a very heavy heart that I report that Georgiann Makropoulos passed away today at 69.

I had emailed her a wrestling video this morning as I did every week since she always got a kick at the classics. I got my email confirmation that she received it shortly after 11AM. Instead of her usual witty response and daily talk, I open my email inbox this evening to this very sad news. I am truly at a lost for words.

Long time listeners to our show will know Georgiann especially from her unbelievable hard work she and I did running the drive for Konnan's successful Kidney Transplant.

In no way whatsoever am I calling her an Angel now because she has passed on. I have had the privilege of telling everyone over the years how special she was. Not to mention recently the countless hours she and I would play online at the Super Slots Casino.

She has done so much for the Wrestling World. In the coming days, surf the net and you are going to find an unbelievable amount of appreciation from the wrestling community.

For anyone that would like to send Flowers, a Mass Card, or needs her Funeral Information, here it is:

Thomas M Quinn & Sons Funeral Home
    35-20 Broadway
    Long Island City, NY 11106
    Tel# 718-721-9200

The wake will take place Tuesday from 7PM to 9PM, Wednesday from 2PM to 5PM and 7PM to 9PM.

I don't have her Mass information as of yet. However I will post an update on the mainpage tomorrow.

On behalf of everyone here, we send our condolences to her family. She will truly be missed. From me personally, thank you Georgie for the countless years of friendship. While you are up in the Heavens, tease my Grandmother a bit

Sad to hear. I haven't thought about Georgie in years. Used to read her all the time back in the scoops/1wrestling years. I sort of remembered she was on Scoops, but I guess I misremembered and she was on 1wrestling. But she had a fun column and a different take on things, more personal.

Too bad, but I always got the impression she was having a good time. So that's a good thing.

We'll be back right after order has been restored here in the Omni Center.

Various sources have conflicted on Georgie's age - I've seen 67 to 69 reported - but her MySpace profile says 68 and so does the report at the Wrestling Observer website (f4wonline.com), so I've changed her birthday in the subject above to reflect that.

More tributes to Georgie:

Everyone here at The Heyman Hustle is saddened by the death of Georgiann Makropoulos. In many ways, Georgiann was professional wrestling's best friend, and she always took tremendous pride in the fact that she loved the business and was "house mom" to those involved. A truly genuine individual without a malicious bone in her body, all Georgiann wanted to do was help people (and go to Atlantic City). We extend our deepest condolences to her husband George, her family, and her network of friends (all of whom were considered by her to be family) around the world.

Today I received a phone call that blew me away. My long time dear friend, the first lady of wrestling, Mrs. Georgiann Makpoulos passed away. I was hearing the news yet I couldn't believe it.

The call came from the hospital by way of her husband George and photographer Eric. They wanted me to know before it hit the message boards and I am so thankful for that.

Georgiann and I IMed each other almost everyday. She would come to me when she needed to find someone and I would go to her when I need a contact. We had a thirty year friendship and I will truly miss my friend. We had so many fun times at the AG Hall in Allentown, PA back in the late 1970's and early 1980's when I was wrestling for the late Vince McMahon Sr. Our friendship started then and we stayed close for all these years.

When Georgiann asked me to write a column for the Chatterbox I couldn't say no. It was my honor and pleasure to help her in this way. I will never forget the many times that she helped me out with kind words when over the past few years I have lost so many family and friends and Georgiann always knew what to say to cheer me up. Now I have to sit here and write about her and its with a heavy heart that I do.

I will never forget our friendship and Georgiann passing my contact information to Darren Aronofsky for the movie The Wrestler, where I trained Mickey Rourke for his role. Georgiann always had my back and I will miss her so much.

I am comforted to know that she is among so many greats in Heaven and I know that she is with our Lord for she is a great lady. I can remember so clearly Georgiann sitting in a folding chair outside AG Hall with a smile and kind word for all of us who were away from our families while on the road. I know she is sitting up there in Heaven and surrounded by so many wrestlers who I am sure are welcoming her the way she always welcomed us at the arena.

Be strong George and I am here for you if you need anything. I love you my friend.

I just had a bad, bad, bad, bad thought. Imagine in several months if ratings have not picked up and Vince has exhausted his supply of returners. Goldberg is hired, Steiner is brought in, Sting, Vampiro....you name 'em and it didn't help.
