Good to see Brock back on his feet. I did not realize Canadian health care was that bad, and this is what Obama and the demos wants. U.S. healthcare is not perfect and needs some fixing but not an overhaul. I agree what Brock said on this issue. Good to see Brock back thanks to our(U.S.) healthcare!
The controversial champion, who calls himself a "conservative Republican,"
Yeah, I'll take his opinion with a grain of salt.
If I travelled to New Orleans and had a terrible experience and met nothing but A-holes and came back to DC and spread the world that it's nothing but a "Third World" area down there, would it be fair to New Orleans if everyone who heard my rant go "Thank God he told me, otherwise I would have made a huge mistake visiting there!"
Just saying that just because one guy on the internet says something, it doesn't necessarily make it true.

That has been happening here for quite a while actually. Hey even our mayor lives in Dallas.
Sounds like he was in the boonies. I live in a small town, and there's no way my hospital can compare to the Mayo Clinic, where Lesnar was ultimately treated. That "nearest medical facility" could have been a general clinic.
Also, did she legally change her name to Sable? That's how she's identified.

...wow, an American who identifies as a Republican has a negative anecdote about Canadian health care. Breaking, Earth-shattering news. Excuse me while I find a picture of the Earth... shattering. If only more grand, sweeping policy statements were based off of individual experiences.

He also fails to mention that it was the amazing, outstanding, top notch, a-okay, U.S. health care system that initially diagnosed his illness as... mononucleosis. And I'm willing to bet my colon that he told the doctors at that unnamed Third World Canadian medical facility that he had mono - which might be the reason they couldn't do anything... nope, excuse me... couldn't do NOTHING for him.

You know, I'm not wealthy enough to afford the best medical treatment and I see no problem with our healthcare system.
I just don't believe one's personal healthcare is a 'right'. If that was the case, what makes food and shelter any different. You need those to survive, right. Why not just give everyone free food and a house while you're at it.
Fuck the people who actually work for a living for what they have, just give the lazy people free shit.
There are young homeless people out here in Los Angeles and Santa Monica especially who refuse to work. They sit on the sidewalk all day and get money handed to them. I'm talking young assholes in their early 20's sitting outside of a pizza place with a fucking NOW HIRING sign in the window and when you point it out to them, they tell you to fuck off and that they don't NEED to work.
These are the majority of the people who will benefit from free healthcare.

Didnt Obama & the dems take free "Obamacare" off the table like a month ago? Why is that even up for debate anymore?

Why let the truth get in the way of a good talking point?

Some of us try. We start up or volunteer at or give to or in other ways support homeless shelters. It's not much, but it's a roof over their head during the winters and a sandwich they'd otherwise have to dig out of a trashcan. I know most homeless people like eating trash, but some don't so we try to help them out.
I did enjoy your delightful little anecdote about the easy, lazy, vacationy life of the homeless in SoCal. How I envy them.

Oh, man... it is the good life!
Here in Santa Barbara, we had a record number of homeless deaths in 2009. Our last homeless death of the year was a Marine veteran, who, confined to a wheelchair, died of hypothermia when the weather here dipped into the 40's.
But if you can manage to survive, it's beach-side livin' all the way!
Edit: Apparently, the intended sarcasm in this post didn't manage to get through effectively...
Who the hell cares what Brock Lesnar thinks about health care? I value his opinion on the subject about as much as I value George Clooney's.
I'm more interested in the opinions of actual nurses and doctors more than athletes or celebrities.

Tell me, why is Brock Lesnar commenting on Canada's health care system...and why should we CARE? Yeah, he's a former WWE Champion, now UFC champion (he still is, right?)....
SO?
Now, I don't care for Canada's health care system to be dissected. Everytime I've had problems, I've been tended to. My taxes pay for the health care that I receive, adnd I don't need to call ahead to see if I'm covered for something. So, to look into his commentary:
Lesnar - the heavyweight champion for the popular UFC and a former WWE pro wrestling star - said he had felt unwell for some time when he became ill at a hunting lodge at a Canadian location he refused to disclose. He said it was three hours from the nearest medical facility.
Was he expecting a hospital where he was, in the bush, in the middle of nowhere? Note to Lesnar: our population density isn't nearly as great as that in America.
That unnamed medical centre wasn't up to the fighter's standards.
Judging by the resources he probably has at hand as being a UFC fighter, and also judging by his income, anything that isn't first class is probably not up to his stanadards. Unfortunately, without him divulging the information as to where he was, it's hard to suggest where he was.
"I love Canada," Lesnar said. "Some of the best people and hunting in the world, but I wasn't in the right facility." "They couldn't do nothing for me," he added. "It was like I was in a Third World country. I just looked at my wife and she saved my life.
Brock, why don't you put your money where your mouth is. Go to Ethiopia, or any other certifiable Third World country and try to get the health care you feel is necessary. Take notes, report to us, and promptly apologize. Ass.
I had to get out of there." Lesnar's wife, former WWE wrestling star Sable, took the 6-foot-3, 285-pound giant away from the facility in "excruciating pain" and "drove 100 miles per hour" across the border to Bismarck, N.D.
Now we're getting somewhere. Looking at a map, North Dakota shares its northern border with both Saskatchewan and Manitoba. Having experienced the health care system in both provinces, I can assure people that they're both top notch. What I don't understand is that Bismarck, North Dakota isn't anywhere NEAR the ND/Canada border.
Lesnar claimed that the care he received in the United States, and later at the prestigious Mayo Clinic, was far superior and thus evidence that the U.S. health-care system is the best in the world.
I call bullshit. Sorry, but not trying to put another log on the fire (though I probably am) I would never want to be a subject of the American health system. I can't even fathom having to clear it with an overseeing organization whether I can get the care that I'd need.

According to Meltzer, Lesnar was hunting near Gimli, Manitoba (population: 5,800). Winnipeg (population: 600,000+) is less than an hour's drive from Gimli, so I'm guessing he went to the hospital there. If you went straight from Gimli to North Dakota, you'd have to go through or around Winnipeg. Though I'm not sure why you would go to Bismarck - Fargo is a bigger city and would be quicker to get to from Gimli or Winnipeg.
Regardless, to be fair to Brock, Winnipeg IS pretty ass-awful.
1. That the multi-millionaire Brock Lesnar can afford better health care than the publicly-funded offering in Canada probably isn't going to change the mind of anyone who thinks the underprivileged need access to something better than they can reasonably afford in the US at present.
2. People who go hunting in remote locations shouldn't be shocked if the nearest hospital isn't on their doorstep. If I have a heart attack at the top of Ben Nevis it doesn't mean the NHS sucks because they lacked the foresight to build a hospital at the top of every mountain in the country.
3. It's fairly obvious Brock is making a political point here given that he apparently views being misdiagnosed as just a minor inconvenience and sees fit to declare the US system the best in the world having sampled the offerings in two countries.
4. Brock's opinion should come as "news" to precisely zero sentient human beings. In countries like the UK where we have the publicly-funded NHS thousands of people still opt to pay for private health care on top of that. It's better. You get your own room and everything. I don't think anyone advocating the need for a public health care offering would deny this. Thing is, if you're on a low income and go into a public hospital with cancer and come out with a clean bill of health, you'd be amazed how little you care about how comfy your bed was or whether the food was much cop.
5. I've heard many wise and learned individuals on both sides of the political divide who have made powerful and convincing arguments on the health care debate. Brock Lesnar? Not one of them.
All that said, Brock Lesnar is a multiple time WWE champion and the current UFC heavyweight champion. Isn't it about time we started spelling his damn name correctly?

It's another chance for anti-universal healthcare people to crow about how bad it is for everyone and another chance for Canadians to moan about how much little respect their country gets from big bad Americans.
Everybody's happy.

I believe Lesnar wound up in Brandon's hospital, not Winnipeg. Brandon is about an hour or so west of Winnipeg, so that would explain why he wound up going to Bismarck instead of Fargo or Grand Forks. It's inconsistent with what Meltzer was saying about Gimli, though, because Brandon is much farther from Gimli than Winnipeg is.
