A lot of people I've read online (not necessarily here) were hoping for Leno at 10 to fail because they wanted to champion scripted drama. Well, folks, what you're getting is ONE extra scripted drama, and Parenthood probably would have found a spot anyway. Otherwise, it's the SVU "encore" airing, an extra hour of Dateline, and reality shows. Enjoy.

And it just shows the amazing vision of NBC to base it's brand new drama on a movie that came out 21 years ago. And was a comedy.

...ans already failed once before as a dramedy. On NBC, no less.

They may not be getting all five hours back for scripted TV this year, but they will by next season and that's probably the important thing for those writers. Maybe even by summer - it just takes longer for scripted stuff to come together and this transition is happening pretty quick. The lineup NBC will have after the winter Olympics probably won't be the same one they'll have in June.

The other this is - even though it may not immediately give new life to scripted shows, it probably just gave some 1ups to existing shows. If Chuck struggles a little bit, NBC doesn't really have the option to pull it, because what else do they have left to put on the air? If it's on the borderline going in to next season, NBC may lean more to keep it rather than going with their 6th or 7th choice for a new show (as opposed to the 1st or 2nd choice if there's not those hours to fill.)

Heroes is in the same boat as Chuck, but I still expected to get canned anyway as well as Chuck. When Comcast buys NBC, its going to be a house cleaning. I am hopefully that since Comcast gave a shout out to it during a conference it may survive, but its ratings are weak. Even with the weak ratings, its still NBC's number 2 drama even beating Law and Order. It would make sense to keep Heroes, Chucks and other established shows to help build new shows. The fact that NBC has 20 plus pilots ready to go, I think seals the deal NBC is going in a totally different direction next season. Thank god for Sunday Night football or I would never watch this channel.

I'm always amazed by NBC's low ratings because between Chuck and the Thursday night comedy block, it has to be one of my most watched channels. The only network that I don't watch except for football is CBS...

I hate how tv programming works...

The deal with Comcast won't be complete in time for the Comcast people to have a major say in the decision-making for the fall, and somewhat as a result, I'm expecting both Heroes and Chuck to get pickups.

While the switch from Cena to RVD should alleviate some complaints, the inevitability of the belt's return to Cena (note where Summerslam is this year) and the poor initial showing by the new ECW are enough to keep the indicator where it is for now. The pieces are in place, though, especially on RAW, for improvements to be made to the IWC's psyche in the near future.

Yes, it only takes two weeks to green-light, cast, produce, film, edit and launch a new scripted drama. They must have skipped a day, and that's why they're putting out encore showings of SVU.

I understand what you're saying, but it's not as though networks don't always have a certain amount of projects that are ready to go on short notice.

Still, if there's a big increase down the road in scripted shows on NBC, then I'm wrong in my main point. But I don't think I am. I think at least half of what will end up being added to the schedule will be reality, newsmagazine, and rerun.

And, incidentally, I suspect that not having dramas on NBC in that slot has been good for cable dramas. Apart from Fringe, my favorite dramas this season have been Men of a Certain Age, Leverage, and White Collar, all of which air at 10 eastern on basic cable.

Yeah, I find it pretty funny that there are more shows on USA that I watch (Burn Notice, White Collar, Psych, In Plain Sight, sometimes Raw) than NBC (Chuck, sometimes Community and I watch Friday Night Lights, but before it comes on NBC.)
