My oldest (13 year old) is bugging us for this "free" app for his new iPod touch. It says it is a free downloadable application that allows you to send and receive text messages for free. It sounds too good to be true. What am I missing?
There's two versions of the app. The free one he's talking about limits him to 15 messages a day, and there's a $6/year version for unlimited text. Plus, they put ads in the app to make their money back.
Otherwise, it looks to be fine. If the person who's receiving it has the app as well, the message goes right into that. If they don't, they get a message from a generic number with a note that it's from your account (and have to pay normal text message fees.) People can respond to an email address, which shows up on the iPod Touch as a text message.
They actually censor all profane messages, which may be a good thing in this case. No picture messaging at this point.
Thanks so much, cubs. I did watch the review and their only real minus (censoring profanity) is actually a plus for me! I always appreciate the expertise and experience of the Ws. Gabba gabba hey!
A lot of this in response to the Europeans, who have started to express displeasure with the DRM. iTunes DRM called out by France and Germany Jobs response is interesting, as he directly addresses the criticisms by the Europeans.
