Thoroughly entertaining, smart, action packed, clever, and a lot of fun. Way better than I expected. It felt a lot like the kind of fun the first Pirates of the Caribbean movie was. (Although I'd say Holmes is a notch below Pirates 1. Keira Knightley > Rachel McAdams comparatively.)
With Sherlock Holmes between Iron Man movies, Robert Downey, Jr. is on the roll of his life. He's always been a great actor, but I don't think there's a more outright entertaining leading man in Hollywood today than Robert Downey, Jr.
I had no inclination to watch this movie at all, and was dragged to it by my fiance'. I had to thank her when we left, it was so much better, clever and more entertaining than I had ever thought it would be.
Jude Law is so BRITISH in his role. He's what I think of when I think "stuffy Brit" and he was just great in this.

Yeah, that thought occurred to me as well. Mainly, I thought the movie was fun, but it was so obviously the first act of a larger story that I was kinda unsatisfied at the end. I figure I'll probably like it more in a couple years after I've had a chance to see how the stuff with Moriarty plays out. By the way, does anyone know if/how many sequels have been greenlit already?

Sherlock Holmes 2 is happening, that much I know. Whether it will be an adaptation of any of the books or an original Holmes vs. Moriarty story, that I don't know. I'm definitely game for more Holmes.
I saw yesterday and I enjoyed it. Downey and Law did a great job in their roles and I liked how they had Holmes' inner monologue. Sets up great for a sequel and I do hope we get a Holmes' story like the Hound of Baskerville as the backdrop or subplot to the main Holmes vs. Moriarty.
I can't remember where, but I saw an interview with RDJ saying he'd be content alternating between the roles of Sherlock Holmes and Tony Stark for the rest of his days. If only...

Sometime between posting last week's information and Sunday night, NBC switched the schedule SNL - Short Films with The Best of Tracy Morgan and The Best of Will Ferrell. Yours truly DVR'd it unaware of the switch.
