Assuming this isn't someone who got caught doing something and thought 'might as well claim I'm part of al-qaeda' while I'm at it, isn't al-qaeda really turning into the gang that couldn't shoot straight?
A Nigerian Muslim attempts to blow up a plan on it's descent into Detroit, and was subdued by passengers.
Unless you've got a source other than the article you linked us to, I think Nigerian-man-claiming-to-be-Al-Qaida is a better and potentially more accurate description of the alleged terrorist.
I'm no radical fundamentalist Muslim apologist, but I'm surprised you didn't finish your sentence with, "and was subdued by Christian passengers." Sheesh.

If someone was named Lisa Silberberg, would that make her Jewish? No, it wouldn't. She's 100% Korean and wasn't raised Jewish by her adopted family.
If someone's last name is O'neal, does that make them Irish? Not always, just ask Shaq.
If someone had the first name of Maria, would that make them Catholic?
I'm just saying that it takes more than a name to make someone part of a religion and can be very deceiving as to who they are. Don't assume because...you know the rest.
Originally posted by StaggerLeeIf you would rather err on the side of..... whatever it is you are erring on, fine. But (more than) 9 times out of 10 a person arrested for trying to blow up a plane with a Muslim "sounding" name probably IS Muslim.
I'd really to know your definition of "Muslim sounding".
I have friend whose last name was Al-Hajj (he changed it out of being terrified of being identified as an Arab after 9/11). His family were Lebanese Christians who immigrated in the late sixties. My boss is also Lebanese (her maiden name was one of those "Muslim sounding" names), and she was raised Catholic. I worked with a student from Pakistan, again with one of those "Muslim sounding" names, who was also raised a Christian. I also worked with a student from Eastern Europe, who DIDN'T have one of those "Muslim sounding" names - and guess what, he is a Muslim.
I have a feeling - and this is just me - that you don't know what you are talking about.
Originally posted by StaggerLeeMy definition of Muslim sounding is simple, if. I near the name and can be reminded of the Muslim people I met and socialized with on one of my three tours in the U.A.E. then I consider it "Muslim sounding".
Oh, well that makes sense. I mean, I just spent my Christmas holiday in Utah, and I am struck by all of the names I am hearing. Ya' know, names like Young, Smith, and McArthur sound just so... Mormon.
Originally posted by TheBucsFan... and why does it matter if he's Muslim anyway?
Thank you, my point exactly.
Originally posted by StaggerLeeAnd, why does it matter that he is a Muslim? Ask the A.P. since it was them that identified him to begin with.
Are you reading a different article than the ones you linked us to? I see nowhere in ANY of the articles where it says he's Muslim. That's point number one.
Point number two, even if there's an article somewhere that identifies the man as such, I'm sure it would be just one piece of information amongst a lot more information (unless that article was written by Fox News or Matt Drudge, but I digress). That's a far cry from posting a link and saying it's about a Muslim trying to blow up a plane. A summary like that just screams agenda/bias/prejudice.
For one jackass who burned his nuts on a plane, he's done a lot of damage.
Effective immediately, those of us flying to the USA now have to be searched twice (including a patdown) and stay seated for the final hour of the flight.
Air Canada warns that the restrictions "may adversely impact on-board service. Among other things, during the final hour of flight customers must remain seated, will not be allowed to access carry-on baggage, or have personal belongings or other items on their laps."
Well, I guess this kind of answers the "Muslim or not?" question at least. Sounds like he has been heading towards this sort of action for a while now.
I don't know where she is going to get another $30 million to blow without digging into the WWE fund which she is no longer working, I think not. I think someone saw the poll numbers after pissing off both the right and the left and made the only choice.
