I had SO much free time that I went ahead and did THIS week early as well. As of right now, 132 DVDs and just ten Blu-ray are currently slated for the week of 12/29. We'll see if that holds up later, but for now HERE is THIS big list...
Again, no clear cut thing getting me excited moves me to default mode, so you probably won't be surprised by my
PICK OF THE WEEK The Marine 2 (The W at Amazon) (direct to video, 2009) Ted DiBiase IS - interesting that they decided to just go "R" rated in forgoing a theatrical release The Marine 2 [Blu-ray] The Marine Two-Pack Doesn't say, but I would suspect the "unrated" version of John Cena IS The Marine (2006) is the version included here
TV MOVIES OF THE WEEK Gone to Texas (Houston: The Legend of Texas - CBS, 1986) Sam Elliott, Claudia Christian, John de Lancie A Song from the Heart (CBS, Canada/USA, 1999) Amy Grant, D.W. Moffett
I *THINK* THIS IS TV? A God Pickney Dem Jamaican version of "Kids Say the Darnedest Things" (12/31)
Diagnosis: Death (New Zealand, 2009) Flight of the Conchords - well, quite a bit more Bret than Jemaine, really, so maybe I should just say "Bret McKenzie" instead Diagnosis: Death Same as above?
9 (USA/Luxembourg, 2009) Animated - out on 9.9.9 9 [Blu-ray]
Weather Girl (2009) Tricia O'Kelley, Patrick J. Adams, Ryan Devlin, Kaitlin Olson, Mark Harmon, Jane Lynch, Blair Underwood
Vampire Killers (Lesbian Vampire Killers - UK, 2009) James Corden, Mathew Home, MyAnna Buring, Vera Gilatove, Paul McGann
Last Cup: Road to the World Series of Beer Pong (2008) It's a DOCUMENTARY. On BEER PONG. You need more elaboration than that? Hell, I already bought three copies! Maybe I should have made THIS one the Pick of the Week....naaah.
PUBLIC DOMAIN-Y LOOKIN' COLLECTIONS *NOT* ON ALPHA VIDEO OF THE WEEK What we have HERE are a bunch of cheapo collections from "Pacific Entertainment," a legitimate (sounding) operation if you've ever heard of one. Aside from that distributor's name, you get NO information about these! I can speculate with confidence that for $5.99, the 25* "classics" you're gonna get are probably not the best video quality, not to mention "entertainment" quality. In fact, if you've got six bucks to burn, maybe you should just donate it to ME and I'LL try to provide you with some "classic" entertainment. For instance...here's how I hambone! 25 Action Classics 26 Gangster Classics *(or 26) 25 Horror Classics 25 Mystery Classics 25 War Classics 25 Western Classics 25 Sci Fi Classics
AND THE REST OF THE MOVIES OF THE WEEK They Must Eat (2006) More info at R-Squared Films (rsquaredfilms.com) Be Mine (2009) Not in IMDb - more info at Ariztical (ariztical.com) Evil Offspring (direct to video?) Not in IMDb but shares a lot of personnel with "They Must Eat" above - more info at R-Squared
And finally... Princess of Mars (direct to video, 2009) Antonio Sabato Jr., Traci Lords - classic The Asylum spiel breathlessly states: "From Edgar Rice Burroughs' novel! The classic story that inspired James Cameron's AVATAR." Expect Avatar had a budget of, like, a BILLION dollars, while this one surely cost about a grand. And it surely shows! THE BEST WAY TO MEET YOUR SOUL MATE IS BY STAYING HOME AND WATCHING A DVD YOU BOUGHT ON THE INTERNET The Secrets of Meeting Women and Men "A TEN DAY PROGRAM FOR SUCCESS! A SIMPLE GUIDE TO FULFILLING YOUR LOVE LIFE! MEET THE MAN OR WOMAN OF YOUR DREAMS TODAY!" Wow, that's a lot of capital letters. More at MVD (mvdb2b.com)
Hey, we did it! Happy 2009!
We'll take some periodic checks later to see how this holds up - maybe I should try to move up my posting date to have this available sooner. (Of course, when I only have to look at 100 instead of 400, it's a lot easier for me to think this way. ;-) ) And of course, we'll post a final update right around Monday the 28th and then close the books on another year of time down the drain!
Vacation beckons (after Friday) - see you much later!
Yes, because the second part of the season doesn't begin until April 13, 2010.
It's unclear how Fox is handling the DVD release of the second part of the season, though. From TVshowsonDVD.com:
UPDATE: While our (multiple) sources for the above information provided a title of "Glee - Season 1, Volume 2" for the follow-up release, emphasizing another half-season set, we've quickly received an e-mail from reader Amber Bewley characterizing this information as "incorrect". She points us to a Variety story that is almost a month old (but which nobody had previously made us aware of). In that story, writer Michael Schneider says that Fox "plans to release another DVD containing the show's full first season (emphasis is ours) sometime in mid-2010." Schneider's Variety story goes on to explain that the December 29th release of Glee - Season 1, Volume 1 will come enclosed with a voucher, which "can be used toward purchase of the full season box set."
The method for how this voucher would be redeemed was not described; please read the story at the above link for all the available details. We should emphasize that this does NOT match the info we received from our contacts earlier today; we'll double-check with them tomorrow and see if they have been given any info from the studio about a full-season set. It COULD be that both types of packages will be offered, but that's just a possibility worth mentioning.
