So it's "Black Friday" all week at Amazon, and Amazon MP3 is no exception. They've put hundreds of albums on sale for just a fin.
Combine this with their announced earlier free $3 giveaway (The W) and that means you could get ONE of these albums for just TWO bucks - AND the board gets, like, fifty cents (I think). So really, c'mon - buy yourself something nice and help keep our lights on at the same time - wotta deal!!
DISCLAIMER: Amazon's alphabetization of artists isn't very intelligent, but I'm just too lazy to sort this correctly myself. (Not even later!) So if you see something DEFINITELY worth five bucks, feel free to tack on your endorsement because it may be easier to miss than normal.
If you like The Postal Service or Deathcab for Cutie, you should get this album. It is fantastic.
Really? I got the impression from "Fireflies" that if you like Postal Service or Death Cab, you should just listen to them instead of this pale imitation.
There's some really, really great jazz on this list. Between the Ellington and the Pharoah Sanders and the Coltrane and the Monk (and the combinations thereof), there's not really many ways to go wrong.
Normally it would be my duty to demand that you purchase The Time's "Ice Cream Castle," except its regular price is a mere $5.94, so you're not really saving all that much by getting it for $5. You might ALSO be better off just buying the three singles for a total of $2.97 without really feeling like you've missed much of anything. Heck, that comes in just under the free three bucks Amazon MP3 wants to give you!

Brandon Benson's My Old Familiar Friend is probably my favorite album of the year (hope I'll get to vote for it in The Fuzzies!)...I was actually thinking I might use my $3 to buy the only two songs from it that I haven't been able to download free from blogs! (I really didn't set out to do that...I just came across various songs from the album, until I realized I practically had the whole thing.) Very good power-pop from the lead singer of the Raconteurs.
I believe I've already gushed about Odessey and Oracle from the Zombies. And if anyone somehow isn't familiar with CCR's finest hour, Cosmo's Factory, you don't know what you're missing.
So I bought this album as a result of Amazon's promotion, and it is, in a word, AWESOME. Much more highly recommended than the first album I recommended in this thread. Here is a video of them playing on a recent NPR 15-minute concert:

Just had to reply to myself because I can't believe I forgot that Ben Lee's The Rebirth Of Venus was this year, and I liked that even better. And for the Fuzzies, one of the contenders for best remake/parody should be Ben's version of "Ben Lee" by The Ataris--the song is a total dis of Ben, and him covering it is incredibly cool.
For worst remake/parody, Neil Diamond has a version of Adam Sandler's "The Chanukah Song" which must be heard to be believed. It's as though Neil didn't realize that Sandler is a comedian and that the song shouldn't be taken so seriously. Read about it and--if you dare--download it at http://popdose.com/the-thir-day-of-mellowmas-the-return-of-diamondmas/
