What would you guys say was the best video game of 2001? ... I would have to say its a toss-up between GTA3 and Final Fantasy X.

Oooh, I ran a poll about this starting in December. Grand Theft Auto 3 won, with MGS 2 second, and Dragon Warrior 7 coming in third.

My own personal pick is GTA3.

GTA3 is the only game I've played for the PS2 and it probably is the best game out there.

I'd have to give a nod to Rogue Leader for GameCube as well.

GTA3, it only beats FFX and Baldur's Gate because of the freedom you have while playing it. Plus the developers had 'Balls the size of grapefruits" to push the game in the direction it was pushed.

I'd say FF X, then GTA3, then Conker's Bad Fur Day if that came out this year, I don't remember.

FFX, then Halo. And FFX is first only because it is an FF game. Otherwise Halo would blow it away.

Grand Theft Auto 3: it combines everything that makes gaming great: violence, course language, beating up hookers, hookers, carbombs...uh...hookers...

NHL 2002 is up there, too, just because it actually looks like a dang hockey game!

I'd go with Halo, and NHL 2002.

I've seen very little of GTA3, but I noted that lots of people had fun with that, as well as got addicted to FFX, so I'll throw those in.

In addition, I'd like to throw Diablo II and/or it's expansion pack, Lord of Destruction, into the mix, because the expansion is SO worth getting to add onto the game. I got addicted to that this year...

Wow, that belt looks like crap... I'll take it and carry it around for years and see if people can take it away from me... What? What was that? You mean even THIS belt doesn't matter! What? I'm insulted! Get away from me you... you... defiler!

As a person who only ever buys sports games, I gotta go with a special nod to Metal Gear Solid 2, since it's the first game of its kind that I've have ever felt that "Oooooh I gotta have that" feeling about.

On the sports side of things, I'll go with NHL 2002, although I'm not too keen on the Free Agency feature in Franchise mode. Couldn't you just copy the way Madden does it? That one is the best.

I also love the new play on FIFA 2002 and NBA Live 2002. Much different an better than the 2001 versions.

The best new thing on an old game for me is the recruiting on NCAA Football 2002. The fact that the game is now capable of naming all the players and that you can see guys you recruited but failed to get play against you during the following seasons kicks ass. Plus, the gameplay still kicks ass. In fact if I had to only keep one game, that would be it. But you'd also have to pry NHL 2002 from my cold dead fingers.

FFX for all the reasons already stated.

I love NCAA Football, which I like better than Madden. I think the gameplay is less busy and recruting is more fun than Free Agency in Madden.

Also, a small shout out to Simpsons Road Rage, which is repetitive, but hey, it's the Simpsons! And a shout out to Ico, which I didn't finish but it should get props for being a little different.

Biggest Disappointment: Okage. After all the hype, it was just lame.

My two obvious picks here are FFX and GTA3. My third one that hasn't been mentioned would be Max Payne. It was definitely one of the coolest games for the PC with Bullet Time shooting and a lot of crazy action.

Worst game of 2001? Probably the interactive Survivor game.

Game of the Year? Always a though one...

I think out of all the games I've tried...GTA3 is probably at the top of the list.

Honorable Mentions:
-Conker's Bad Fur Day (If you have a N64 and you have not played this game...PLAY IT! And the multiplayer deathmatches rule!)

-Soul Reaver 2 (A little short but still fun, best Voice Acting ever! Nothing really to do with the gameplay..but sitll a plus.)

-Metal Gear Solid 2 (Very fun and unlike other people, I actually enjoyed the story.)

-Baldur's Gate: Dark Alliance (Hey any game where I can wield a Wounding Bastard Sword is ok in my book!)

-Halo (Co-op missions is where it's at!)

Nothing is better than X-pac!

It's all in the inflection...

I would defenetly NOT put SD3 on there, it's season mode is too craptacular to include in as Best Video Game. It's short and repetitive...meaning not very much replay value.

I have hardly played Smackdown 3 alone, which sucks since *I'm* the one that bought it, but it is the one game I have that my friends will always want to play whenever we have a few people together. It's great as a two or more player game, but I agree that as a 1 player game it doesn't have much replay value.
