(I didn't know whether to put this in the Random or Current Events folder, so here it is!)

This is kinda sad, but yet funnier than hell. I need a motorized Lay-Z-Boy with cupholders!

DULUTH, Minn. -- A northern Minnesota man has pleaded guilty to driving his motorized lounge chair while drunk.

A criminal complaint says 62-year-old Dennis LeRoy Anderson told police he left the Keyboard Lounge in Proctor on his customized La-Z-Boy after drinking eight or nine beers.

Prosecutors say Anderson's blood alcohol content was 0.29, more than three times the legal limit, when he crashed the lounge chair into a parked vehicle in August 2008.

Proctor Deputy Police Chief Troy Foucault says the chair was powered by a converted lawnmower and was equipped with a stereo and cup holders.

My friend, you are in luck. Impounded vehicles can be put on eBay, and the Proctor police are going to do just that. Would you like to learn more? (proctormn.com)

You MAY have some competition in the bidding department, though. (Not from me, I promise.)

We'll try to keep an eye out for the listing.

Another round of news reports locally have reminded me to post the listing here for you. As I type this, current bid is over $38K (cgi.ebay.com)

The dude has already started on plans for his next generation motorized La-Z-Boy, presumably to be completed after his alcohol treatment program...

Also, $38K? The news reports said the value of the raw materials needed to roll your own recliner was MAYBE a grand at best. So....you know. The recession hasn't hit EVERY American just yet. 44 have bid real money on this (so far). I shouldn't assume they're all Americans but really I only trust Americans to make these kinds of purchases. ;-)

Just when you were afraid we'd run out of twists to this story...

Duluth News Tribune: Motorized recliner pulled, relisted on eBay (duluthnewstribune.com)

After topping the $43K mark, eBay had to pull the auction when La-Z-Boy complained that the Proctor police were using its brand name when the chair was, in fact, NOT a La-Z-Boy. (This says a lot about corporate America, I think.)

It has since been relisted (cgi.ebay.com) but the top bid is now a mere $6,600.

In other news, the DWI dude is selling autographed pictures of himself in the chair on eBay to raise the money to pay his DWI fines. He got $710 for this one (eBay) but is now selling them in bulk at $30 a pop (eBay). Strike before the clock strikes 15 minutes, I suppose.

It's just the mass media in concert with the federal goverment trying to make us all more susceptible to the orbital mind control rays.
