Note to Colorado: If you want to avenge 70-3 from a few years ago by pulling the shocking upset on the road, don't have a punt blocked for a touchdown followed by a Pick 6.
Substitute multiple Pick 6's and throw in a kick return for a blocked punt, and you have Wisconsin. They seem to melt when they play the big boys.
Really hate saying it, but Alabama is good.
This might seem to be blasphemy to some, but Michigan might be a letdown game for Ohio State the week after they play a potentially unbeaten Iowa.
Towards the end, LSU should have let their defense attempt to play offense. Really it couldn't have been any less effective. Barring Georgia showing some sort of unknown pride, Florida looks like they'll get to Atlanta unbeaten.
He got to the Rose Bowl 2 years ago, but can Ron Zook survive 3-9?

Let's look at the box score, shall we? Yep, OSU 31-13. However:

Time of Possession - UW 42:7 to 17:13
Yards = UW 368 to 184
First Downs = UW 22 to 8

UW Rushing Plays = 44
UW Passing Plays = 45
OSU Offensive plays = 40

Not quite what it seemed, IMO.

When it is 14-10 Ohio State at the half and Ohio State's offense doesn't get the ball until there is only a minute and a half left in the 3rd quarter, it does skewer time of possession and total play numbers. Sadly, when they finally ran a play, the score was already 28-13 Ohio State after Pick 6, Wisconsin field goal, kick return touchdown, missed Wisconsin field goal.
Has anyone told the Florida State defense that the lightning has gone away so they can leave the fetal position?

Washington is going to a bowl this year it seems.

As for the ACC Atlantic, I have nothing to say but the following: Fuck fuck fuck shit shit fuck fuck fuck shit

Maryland loses 42-32 to Wake and FSU loses by some crazy score to GT.

Maryland/Virginia next week. Virginia won 41-7 over Indiana, by the way.

I am dreading this. And I am looking forward to 4-4 BC winning the division and losing by 30 in the championship.

Fucking hell, what a depressing day.

My top 5 -
1. Alabama
2. Florida
3. Texas
4. Cincinnati
5. Virginia Tech

Iowa and USF are close.

LSU's inept QB play probably cost its only chance to make it to the SEC championship game. This is really shaping up to be Texas vs. SEC championship winner for the championship. It will make for a rather regular season. Hopefully the bowl games will be more interesting which I doubt.

With Bradford back, I'd give Oklahoma a better than a puncher's chance against Texas. For those of us who love controversy, that would be the key to opening things wide open.

I think Texas has mostly been on cruise control so far, they've never really been a team like OU who runs up the score on the weak teams. I think they can manhandle OU's weak offensive line and get the win there, Bradford or not.

And yes, the ACC is depressing me. Maybe it's not Bobby that needs to go so much as Micky. Wish he wouldn't have talked him into coming back. Ponder is kind of quietly being awesome this year, best QB they've had since Weinke for sure. Too bad it's going to waste.

At least VT looks good.

I almost hope Meyer wins another title and finally leaves for the NFL. Maybe he can go coach the Rams and draft Tebow. Take Strong with them.

Nothing depressing about football to ME this weekend! Georgia gets a mudhole stomped in them by Tennessee, GT wins in a... strange game over FSU, and just for good measure my Falcons completely dismantle our old hated (former division) rivals the 49ers. Life is good!

It is too bad that GT's defense decided to take the night off, but I guess with that kind of offense it doesn't matter?

I think they'll do better than that. Yeah, OSU trounced them, but I think they can beat Iowa and Michigan, the only two real tests left on the schedule. The defense holding OSU's offense to very little was a good sign. Just gotta clean up the mistakes. Aside from the OSU game, I like what I've seen from Tolzien this year.

Huh?!? Wisconsin is rated above OSU even though they lost to them in convincing fashion, and OSU beat the (previous) #2 team in your rankings and they dropped?

The funny thing is, I don't have much of a problem with OSU's ranking compared to the teams ahead of them as I do with Wisconsin's position in this system.

But he does have love for Kent State! Improving from #70 to #38 after their loss to Bowling Green. I was surprised to see OSU drop as well. Maybe because USC was idle?

And conveniently ignoring redsoxnation's refuting of your nonsense before repeating yourself, to boot. Ohio State scored 14 points in the third quarter before its offense had the ball - that will skew the time of possession and number of plays run from scrimmage.

It was convincing fashion, there's no doubt about that.

HUGE data entry error on my part. I'm resubmitting my ranking to the comparison. I accidentally gave them credit for wins instead of losses for their last two games.

For the record, they are 94th

That puzzled me as well, and I did double check that to make sure everything was entered correctly.

Here is what I discovered after a quick look:

Wisconsin's opponents results for the week:
Northern Illinois -- Idle
Fresno State -- Win
Michigan State -- Win over Illinois
Minnesota -- Win

Ohio State's opponents for the week:
Navy -- Win
USC -- Idle
Toledo -- Loss
Illinois -- Loss to Michigan State
Indiana -- Loss

OSU's SOS dropped enough that the points gained from the Wisconsin win couldn't overcome the points lost from the other games due to the SOS' dropping in the Toledo, Illinois, and Indiana games.

This early in the season, teams can still win and drop. As we get closer to teams playing their 9th and 10th games, the ranking won't fluctuate as much (I hope!)

(edited by Zeruel on 14.10.09 2043)

EDIT: I also discovered an error with Utah State. They hadn't been updated all season. Sigh. They are 114th, not 68th. I sent in corrections to Massey for the big list, hopefully he'll take them.

I watched the game, and was disgusted by the OSU offense. The defense and special teams made it convincing as stated by others.

Fair enough. I thought that halfway through the season your system's rankings would be a little more stable already. FWIW, I enjoy seeing how your rankings update and compare to others, so thanks for your diligent updates!
