We'll be back right after order has been restored here in the Omni Center.

"Hammerhands" Holliday has cost his teams a few runs over the years, yet never in such a blatantly painful instance.
Adam Whinewright has chimed in:
“That ball got lost in 50,000 white towels shaking in front of Matt’s face,” Wainwright said. “It doesn’t really seem fair that an opposing team should be able to allow their fans to shake white towels when there’s a white baseball flying through the air. How about Dodger Blue towels?”
Yeah..."in front of Matt's face"...or as we humans say: "about 200 feet away". If the towels were such a damn problem, why was it that they only became an issue when the ball was hit to Holliday? If this was something like a fan whipping Holliday with a towel, or Holliday getting beaned with or tripping over a towel, then I could understand. Let's put black "fielder's eye" tarps all around the stadium when Matt Holliday comes to town.
Maybe the Yankees' fans were waving towels in the left field umpire's eyes that caused him to miss that obviously fair would-be double from Joe Mauer. Fucking Yankees and their cheap bullshit.

For every cheap ass hit and every 74 bounce chopper that the Twins have gotten in that roller rink they play in, I'd say they were due a spot of bad luck.

You've got to admit, for having an umpire down the left field line for basically that very call (home run controversies are now subject to 'instant' replay) - it was absolutely brutal that the guy misses a call 20 feet in front of his nose.
Though Nathan has to close that game down. Period.

Days after Game 163 and I still can't think about it without wanting to punch something/feeling nauseous.

Inexcusable call. Cuzzi's only job is that exact call. He gets a play that's not even close and misses it? He should be taken out of this series. I wonder what the reaction to him in Minnesota's going to be when he gets there?

The umpiring overall is at it's worst point since before they broke the union. However, at this point, had the Twins scored 8 runs in the inning, they would have found a way to let up 9 in the bottom of the inning in that ballpark. As for the other AL series, it is amazing how the offense is so bad outside of Fenway(or Fenway South that some call Camden Yards). Need the offense to respond at home, then hope for a miracle in Game 5. But, if it is between being trounced in 3 by the Angels or getting humiliated in 4 by the Yankees, I'll take the former because it means a lot less shit to deal with in the greater scheme of life.
The call was absolutely bad, but then again, if the ump made the call, you would have had a man on 2nd with no outs. The Twins had a man on 1st with no outs, 1st and 2nd with no outs, and the bases loaded with no outs, and still didnt score, so I really dont know if the right call would have made a difference. even if the twins would have gotten a run in with the extra base, Texeria hit that HR, which would have happened regardless of the call and who knows what would have happened after that, since we were deep into the bullpens by that point. Overall, Id say the call probably didnt effect the final outcome, either way. I'll tell you, the Twins have a very nice team with a lot of upside, though.

hehehe ... I felt the same way about the Yankees vs twins coming into the series. If they were going to lose, let it be against any team but the Sox. If the Angels can hold on, I will be thankful to not have to sit through ANOTHER Yankees-Sox series. Its just too much, especially when you consider each regular season meeting feels like a mini playoff series as it is.
Either the Angels or Dodgers need to win the Series in order to even up the overall year in sports championships. Pittsburgh already has the Stanley Cup and Super Bowl...LA has just the NBA Championship.

Ok, I finally came to. I was completely breathless after that 9th inning comeback and am on top of the world with the Red Sox monkey finally off the Angels' backs. And to get the Yankees in the ALCS, who the Angels have dominated through the entire Mike Scioscia era, is the icing on the cake.
The one problem? The law of averages seems to be catching up to everyone this postseason. The Dodgers finally beat the Cardinals. The Angels finally beat the Red Sox. Jonathan Papelbon finally gave up a run in the postseason. A-Rod is actually producing in October! If all of these things have finally happened, there's no reason to believe the Yankees won't finally beat the Angels this time around.
The ALCS isn't as much of a foregone conclusion as I'd like it to be.

The Yankees established themselves as the team to beat many moons ago, so it's not like this situation wasn't staring us in the face the moment we won the division. And as usual, no one is going to give us a spit's chance to beat the Yankees, so the Angels have nothing to lose.
The one thing I don't think anyone is really considering is the focus the Angels have in this post-season. They never seemed to lose their cool - something that really plagued them last post-season. I thought we were sunk the moment Papelbon came in to close. The Angels didn't seemed phased by it.
Also considering everything the Angel's have gone through this season, I don't think there's a team in the MLB that wants a win more than the Angels. That makes them a very dangerous team.
So, uh, yeah. Which 9th-inning-on-the-road-come-from-behind win was more amazing: Angels against Papelbon or Phillies against Street? For historical purposes, it was the former, but for all other purposes, it was the latter.
Games 3 and 4 of Phillies-Rockies were pretty amazing. Game 4 was just one big highlight reel. I’m just happy the Phils didn’t waste Lee’s pretty excellent start. Also happy we don’t have to use Hamels tomorrow.

If you've got Joe Beimel on the roster to face lefties, why in hell is Street pitching to Howard in the ninth? Howard kills righties and can't hit lefties. Just stupid. The Rockies deserved to lose.

HISTORICAL PERSPECTIVE: Two of the four remaining playoff teams, the Texas Rangers and Milwaukee Brewers, have never won a World Series, though both of them have previously won league pennants.
