Dude, what's your problem with Bret Hart? There's people in the WWE (past and current) that I don't like, but I don't need to mention them in EVERY SINGLE POST. Get over it.

Exploiting women and their bodies on television is a far cry from actually physically assaulting a person, especially your wife, in anger. One is only morally reprehensible, the other is illegal. So much for ``1 big mistake.'' What if he'd killed her? Is it still just ``1 big mistake''?

I'll grant you watching either of their on-screen characters around women can make me nauseous, but watching guys on the dance floor at my favorite bar does too. What the WWE puts on my screen I can at least pass off as overly hammed-up ``acting.'' What I see at the bar is closer to assault. Having the boobie fetish of a 15-year old boy (a la Lawler) is not a crime. Adultery is not a crime. Portraying either of these, or even portraying violence against women, is not a crime.

Hitting people is a crime.

Your obsession with Scott Keith continues to amuse; if I hated anyone as much as you purport to hate him, that person's would be the last column I read for any reason. Least of all so I could rush to a message board and yammer on yet again about how stupid/wrong/annoying that person is.

That said, I have to consider the home life of Steve Williams and the professional life of Steve Williams to be two different things. While it is true that home life often affects work life and vice versa, one hand can neither wash nor dirty the other.

I don't know about you, but I don't see the following construction as valid:

Steve Williams assaulted his wife, therefore he was wrong to walk out on WWE RAW last Monday.

Are the two incidents related? Very possibly. Can you indict Williams for one by reason of the other? No.

You guys are ready to hang austin for what he did to debra but you are the same people who have been watching the wwf for the past 5 years, you've all seen women treated like dogs on wwf/wwe tv and it's no big deal?

There is a world of difference between, say, Jeff Jarrett going out there and hitting Chyna with a cheap guitar as a part of a planned TV spot than Austin beating the piss out of his wife because he's frustrated at work.

At the same time, I don't really have much sympathy for Debra if this really HAS been going on for a while and she's been too dumb to report it the first time it happened. I realize maybe she was trying to be nice because her husband was a big star or whatever and it could have hurt his career...but sometimes you just have to look out for yourself. If she would have done something about this "the first time" it happened, maybe he could have got some help and already been back in the WW(x) and been going along with his career. Austin, by all accounts, seems to be a pretty fucked up person now, and it doesn't seem like there is any going back to a normal life, much less wrestling.

It's too bad, but there's not much you can do. Austin is an adult, he has to live with the consequences of his actions...unless he decides to take a coward's way out. You know what I'm talking about.

Going back to the person who said something about "The WWE has been treating women like crap for years", I think just about everyone is taking that quote wrong.

I don't take that to mean the odd chairshot on Chyna or Stephanie getting Pedigreed, I take it to mean the fact that the WWE has spent the last few years teaching us that women are second rate citizens meant to be used and abused. Look at their track-record for the past 5 years. How many times are women portrayed in a positive light? Hell, their biggest female storyline right now is that a woman who isn't a slut and who hasn't been boob-jobbed is evil and should be hated JUST for those reasons. Combine that with years of women only being good for yelling "PUPPIES!!!" at, and THAT'S the point *I* got out of the poster.

Remember, it's not just one hit here or there in the context of a match or storyline. It's the constant be-littling (sp?) of women no matter what role they play.

To put any blame on Debra whatsoever is absolutely horrible. Yeah, so she should have reported Austin to the police earlier. How Debra's situation shakes out is pretty much par for the course when it comes to domestic abuse. The battered spouse lets it slide, most cases because the abusing spouse is extremely apologetic, makes a lot of promises, and the abused spouse becomes convinced that its the last time...its a vicious cycle that repeats itself until either the battered spouse gets the courage to report the incident, someone else reports the incident--or that battered spouse is hospitalized or killed. It's too easy to blame Debra.

I'm not going to read through 5 pages of posts, but isn't it funny how not a day after Confidential airs with JR saying that he thinks something else besides just creative differences are the root of Austin's problems, and people call it WWE spin--and here Austin is abusing his wife, then being afraid to own up to his actions by refusing to listen to the police.

Austin obviously has a lot of demons he needs to battle--people who strike their spouses just flat out need to go to jail and get serious help. If I were WWE, even if he hadn't walked out on the job, I'd fire/suspend him for this.

I still haven't seen *any* confirmation of this story from a non-wrestling news site (i.e., AP, UPI, CNN, MSNBC, even ESPN). Not even WWE has anything to say about this. From what I've seen, all KMOL is confirming is that they ran the story. I haven't even seen this "police report" others have mentioned.

I must say, if this is for real, the timing's awfully good. Just after WWE pushes him off the active roster, he manages to destroy his reputation by performing an act that, to most people, is a hideous form of abuse - thus damaging his chances of *any* company hiring him to wrestle. More than that, even if the allegation proves false, Austin will be tarred by this incident for years.

It's "Bret screwed Bret", but with Bret punching out a kid in a wheelchair on his way out of the arena.

I'll wait for independent confirmation before I join in the witch hunt, thank you.

God I feel morbid just thinking it, but last night it also crossed my mind seeing Austin in a black pickup truck riding down the Texas highway in a slow speed chase with Jim Ross driving.

A fear for Steve, all I know is depression + beer + access to handguns = Bad combination.

What Austin done is wrong, it was damn wrong, and I don't want to see him on the screen maybe ever. But I still worry for the man and hope this story doesn't get any worse.

Pretty much every week a woman is raped, murdered, beat, or all three on shows like Law & Order and NYPD Blue. Are you saying that if Dennis Franz hits a woman, folks who watch Blue have no right to say its wrong? Goodness.

Dskillz has made the best point thus far. The NOW gang, Patricia Ireland, Kim Gandy and the rest of the anti-wrestling nazis are going to jump all over this and do every thing in their power to portray wrestling in a bad light.

This is going to sound crazy, and I'm sure I am going to get some "you are nuts" comments for this statement, but don't be surprised if within 2 or 3 years, one of these groups is pushing congress to outlaw realistic man on woman violence (read WWE) being shown in primetime. That has been on their agenda for a few years, and this will give them a stepping stone. Some goof that has been indoctrinated by Freud will say that Austin beat his wife because he was unable to separate wrestling from reality, and we can't take the chance of that happening again. To be clear, this won't stem from solely from Austin, but they will use this as an example to forward their agenda.

No, I'm not drunk.

The KMOL story (http://www.kmol.com/Global/story.asp?S=821838&nav=5QT99d0u)

News 4 broke this story this weekend, professional wrestler, Steve Williams allegedly hit his wife, Debora in the face and back at their San Antonio home on the far Northwest Side. Mrs. Williams told police this isn't the first time it has happened and that she was scared to call the police.

Sunday, World Wrestling Entertainment had a response. They told News4 that this isn't the first bizarre behavior by Stone Cold. They say it started last week when he walked out of an event.

This is the statement by Senior Vice President of Talent Relations, Jim Ross.
"He took himself out of the game. Vince McMahon didn't, J.R. didn't. Steve Williams took Stone Cold and flew him to San Antonio."

President of WWE, Vince McMahon says,
"This is not a publicity stunt. This is something that unfortunately is sad."

I wasn't blaming her....although I WOULD like to know if these "Debra's flirting with other people in the locker room" rumors are true. If it was, I wouldn't see it as an excuse for what Austin has done, but it may provide a little more insight as to why Austin has become a zany koo-koo nuthead over the past few weeks.

And if it is true that it has been going on for a while, I think this could have been avoided if she would have done something about it the first time it happened, whether it be trying to get counseling, calling the police, whatever. This isn't exclusive to Austin/Debra...the same goes for ANYONE who is getting smacked around at home by their spouse. Any marriage where one person would punch the other is a sham, and there's no reason to try to "hide the problem and hope it goes away."

Doesn't sound crazy to me, there probably already are groups trying to do that.

Ok, I know as wrestling fans we're always looking out for the con in action, and trying to find someway to pick out the work in everything. But exactly what do we want before we can take something as a likely fact? First the complaint was that Meltzer put this up and took it down, so it must be untrue. Then other sites in the IWC caught wind of it, and people wanted Meltzer to post before we would believe it. Then we complained that we needed someone who wasn't a wrestling site to post the story. Now the NBC affiliate in San Antonio has posted the story, and we're still looking for the con. They misspelled a name which is spelled many different ways, and they used quotes which we saw on WWE Confidential (which could easily have been given out as stock quotes to any media who contacted WWE).

Now, I may come off as a naive mark when it's all said and done, but to me there's two possibilities at work here:

A - The WWE has come up with the greatest worked shoot of all time. They staged a walkout, pissed off 20,000 fans in GA and on all the house shows, and likely alientated tens of thousands of fans on tv. To further the angle they had Jim Ross and Vince McMahon tape interviews for Confidential which plant the storyline idea that Steve Williams as a human being is having emotional problems. Then they either have his wife file a fraudulent police report complete with stage makeup and a fleeing husband, or else they have worked a network affiliate into running a news story which paints one of their two biggest stars as an unstable spousal abuser. All of which will somehow lead to Austin's return in some of sort of rebellion angle, maybe with Eric Bischoff on board.

B - Steve Williams as a human being for whatever off-camera reasons has been having problems the last few months, which came to a head this week as his frustration with things in his life including lashing out at his employers and his spouse.

Would I be wrong to apply Ockam's razor to this situation?

Anyone remember the joy of seeing him bash the Undertaker's motorcycle with his sledgemhammer and doing no damage and being all like, "Mjolnir will not break thine cycle? I say thee NAY!" and dumping it off the stage. - Enojado Viento says the funniest thing I've ever read on Wienerville.

Occam's Razor could be applied here, but I think eveyrone is treating this carefully because of it's nature (huge deal), and the fact that we've been "shoot" at before, and it turns out it was a work.

Gee whiz "tarnish" all I said was I wondered what SK and CRZ would say. I don't think I said anything about hating him here at all. See what you want to see, but all I said was I wondered how they would react. In retrospect, I never should have said anything about how I didn't like Scott Keith because all it did was incite you to dislike me. It was a mistake, now get off my back for Christ's sake. I promise never to utter his name again on this board if it makes you happy "tarnish". And again, I did not say "Austin assaulted his wife, therefore, he was wrong to walk out on RAW last Monday." If you *read* my post you would know that what I said was that Austin beating his wife obviously shows he's in a severely disturbed state of mind and that maybe JR and Vince were right about Austin being nuts.
