TONIGHT: John Cena runs the gauntlet tonight, as he faces Randy Orton, Chris Jericho and The Big Show in preparation for his Hell in a Cell match in six days against Orton. Also, the Reverend Al Sharpton is the guest host for tonight’s festivities. Does that mean Mark Henry and MVP will get tag title shots once again? Plus, I’m sure we’ll get more DX vs. Legacy and U.S. Title match hype. And, how will Chavo lose to Hornswoggle this week? I know I can’t WAIT to find out.

-WWE Open.

-RAW Open.

-Michael Cole and Jerry Lawler introduced the show and noted Cena was in “dire straits,” as Cena would be in a gauntlet match.

-The VIP Lounge took place in the ring, with host MVP and guest Mark Henry. MVP did his catchphrase, slightly adjusted for his new face persona. MVP was about to introduce the guest host (to a chorus of boos- no surprise), but Big Show and Chris Jericho interrupted. They came to the ring to confront MVP and Henry. Jericho told MVP that he should’ve introduced Sharpton as the most prominent civil rights leader of our time. He and MVP heaped compliments on Sharpton, and Jericho tried to leap over MVP in introducing Sharpton. “Living in America” was his theme. Sharpton said it was the most elaborate introduction he ever got. Al said he’d face tough crowds all over the country, in response to the fans booing him. He talked about the education reform that will be taking place tomorrow. MVP asked for a title match tonight, in spite of the one they have slated for Sunday. I think Sharpton was supposed to say, “what do you think about that” to the heels, but just said, “well?,” so Jericho picked up where Sharpton left off. Jericho said they were already competing against Cena in a gauntlet match, and besides, MVP and Henry already had their shots. He said that the fans don’t deserve to be in the presence of greatness. But Al said that everyone deserves an opportunity. He asked the fans if they’d like to see a championship match, and they cheered. He said the people have spoken, and the match will be next. Sharpton headed to the back as the heels tried to re-group.

[Commercial Break]

(1) MVP & Mark Henry vs. Big Show & Chris Jericho- Unified Tag Team Title Match
Cole reminded viewers that the winners would face Batista and Mysterio at Hell in a Cell. Jericho and MVP were in the match as it was joined in progress. Henry came in and did some more damage to Jericho, including a headbutt and a beal out of the corner. He was able to make the tag, however, to Big Show. After initially being shoved backward, Big Show got the advantage. Henry caught Show on a splash in the corner, then clotheslined Show. Hard shot to the ribs of MVP by Show. Jericho picked up where Big Show left off as the WWE Universe tried to get behind MVP. Show slowed things down when he came back in. Lionsault missed, allowing MVP to tag Henry. Henry cleaned house, including throwing Jericho over the top rope and onto Show on the outside- didn’t even knock the big man over though. Another break!

[Commercial Break]

Mark Henry went for a pin back from break, but Jericho got his foot on the bottom rope. Show came in illegally and speared Henry. Then he legdropped him. I guess a tag was made. Yep, they showed it on replay. Now we’ve got some illegal double-teaming from the heels, as Jericho went after Henry from the outside. Jericho and Henry went back and forth. After a tag to Show, he and Henry collided in mid-ring. Both made tags and MVP was a house afire. He hit his signature moves, but Show broke up the Playmaker attempt. Henry dove at Show, who was sent through the ropes. Jericho kicked Henry through them (though he dove gently). MVP with a VERY near-fall on a roll up. Crowd thought he had him. DDT for two. Show hit MVP with a right hand and MVP fell into a Codebreaker for the decision.

Winners: Jericho & Show, at appx. 18:10. Surprised they gave so much time to this one. Must be a show short on content. FWIW, Justin Roberts is the ring announcer.

-In a gauntlet match, John Cena takes on the above mentioned tag champs and Randy Orton.

[Commercial Break]

-Primo was in Al Sharpton’s office, which looked like a classroom, and thanked him for everything he has done for minorities. Then Hornswoggle loudly ran into the room, being chased by Chavo Guerrero. Sharpton told them to settle down. Chavo introduced himself and his partner, Chris Masters. Then Santino walked up and introduced his partner, Hornswoggle. Marella called Chavo and Masters the cavemen from the Geico commercials. He then mistook Sharpton for Don King. Sharpton sent the guys packing as Primo welcomed him to the madhouse that is Raw.

-They showed what happened last Monday to lead to the Gauntlet match.

-Randy Orton was backstage with Josh Mathews. Orton said Cena won’t survive much less compete tonight. Orton hyped the Cell match and what it means.

-Alicia Fox and Rosa Mendes were walking backstage. Fox faces Mickie James at the PPV, but tonight, James will take on Mendes.

[Commercial Break]

(2) Mickie James vs. Rosa Mendes
Head-lock take-down by Mickie, into a head-scissors by Rosa. Rosa tried to duck underneath Mickie after whipping her into the ropes, but Mickie came down on top of Rosa. They contineud with it anyway. Neck-breaker by James for two. Hair-pull by Mendes, then they kicked her in the back. Into a chin-lock. Rosa continued to work the back of James. James battled back with kicks, then an elbow. Hurricanrana by Mickie as she started to gain momentum. Take-down by Mickie in an ugly sort of way. Alicia got on the middle rope and Mickie grabbed her hair. Rosa missed an attack from behind and Mickie kicked her in the head for the win.

Winner: James, at 3:36. Win needed to be more decisive. Match wasn’t much, thanks to Rosa’s limited skill set.

-Ted DiBiase and Cody Rhodes were walking backstage. They’ll be in action next.

[Commercial Break]

-Lawler thanked Skillet for the use of “Monster” as the theme song for Hell in a Cell.

-Legacy came to the ring. DiBiase said no one expects them to win this Sunday, but they should. He said what they’ve done the past few weeks against DX shows they’re primed for the biggest win of their careers. He reminded fans by showing their attacks on DX. Rhodes said no one expected them to get the better of DX. Naturally, he complimented Triple H and Shawn Michaels. Cody told Triple H to get ready for the desk-work at Titan Towers that will follow his in-ring career. He called HBK the best in-ring performer who ever breathed. As Cody prattled on, Shawn Michaels interrupted with a loud “boooring!” They were in a skybox at the arena as Teddy pointed them out. They’re like the two old men on the Muppet Show. DiBiase facetiously called them hysterical. He said they see right through them. Hunter was about to say how he really felt about Legacy, but Shawn reminded him it was a PG show. Triple H then said they were like the center part of the butt. Well, I guess that’s PG. Triple H tried to insult Cody by bringing up some comic book references, but mistook Bruce Banner for Bob Barker. Rhodes interrupted, but Shawn interrupted HIM and said he didn’t let Hunter finish. The moral of the story: DX didn’t want to wait ‘til Sunday. The camera followed them out of the skybox and down through the fans. Legacy smartly left the ring and went through the crowd before a face-off could be had. HBK said he wasn’t surprised by the two young’ins leaving. Triple H reminded them that in a Cell, there is no running and no hiding. And no joking.

-Another plug for the Gauntlet Match later tonight.

[Commercial Break]

(3) Jack Swagger vs. Evan Bourne
Swagger wore the stolen U.S. Title belt to the ring with him. Swagger lifted Bourne up and put him on his back. Bourne flew back into the ring, right into a back-breaker. Swagger twisted Bourne’s left leg back and to the side. Ouch. Bourne got to the ropes, but was summarily kicked out of the ring. Side-roll by Bourne for two. Spinning heel kick followed by a double-knee off the top for two. Head-scissors take-over, but Swagger rolled through and picked Bourne up, only to powerbomb him for the win.

Winner: Swagger, at 3:23. Fine for what it was.

Swagger did some post-match mic work about winning the U.S. Title, until Miz interrupted. Miz said he has been the most valuable Raw draft pick. The two men started to brawl. Then Kofi came out and took the belt back. They stopped when they realized what happened.

[Commercial Break]

-The announcers plugged WWE.com

(5) Santino Marella & Hornswoggle vs. Chavo Guerrero & Chris Masters
Santino grabbed a head-lock after an unsuccessful legsweep. Chavo took no guff and cornered Santino. He made the tag to Masters, who was just as serious as Chavo. Some heel cheating, but the crowd seemed disinterested. A very unique thrust to the throat by Santino, but Chavo made the tag and Masters walked in and applied the Masterlock to Santino. Santino hulked up, only to have his body fall limp seconds later. The ref called for the bell.

Winners: Guerrero and Masters, at 2:21. Well, Chavo got his win.

Hornswoggle was attacked by Masters after the match since he didn’t even get tagged in. Masters put him in the Masterlock, but Chavo broke it up. He didn’t seem to know why he did that as he walked to the back .

-The three man gauntlet team were having words backstage, planning their match with Cena later on tonight.

[Commercial Break]

-Clips were shown and wrestlers talked about their trip to Central America.

-Next week, Pittsburgh Steelers QB Ben Roethlisberger will be the guest host for Raw. He’s also bringing his offensive line along.

-Cole and Lawler discussed the Hell in a Cell card.

-Reverend Al was addressing the camera backstage when Jillian Hall interrupted. She said she was a better singer than the man who Al tour managed, James Brown. She started singing and Sharpton got a sour look on his face. He turned her down and wished her luck. He tried to talk again, but the Bella Twins interrupted. Since he’s the godson of Brown, they asked him to do some singing and dancing. So he sang and danced to “I feel good” for a minute as the Bellas danced with him.

-Backstage, John Cena looked longingly at the WWE Championship, as if he was signifying that he might be saying goodbye to it this Sunday. He faces the gauntlet next.

[Commercial Break]

-Cole plugged an encore of NBC’s “Community” on USA after Raw. Then they showed a brief clip of the show.

(6) John Cena vs. Chris Jericho- Leg One of the Gauntlet Match
Cole talked about Jericho never beating Cena one-on-one. Jericho took Cena down and kicked away at him. Cena got Jericho up for an Attitude Adjustment, but Jericho got down. He catapulted the champ throat-first into the bottom rope. Cena made his trademark comeback and once again attempted an Attitude Adjustment. He locked in the Walls of Jericho. Cena made the ropes and Jericho refused to break, drawing the DQ.

Winner: Cena, by DQ, at 3:35. Good finish- made sense.

(7) John Cena vs. Big Show- Leg Two of the Gauntlet Match
Show made his way down while Jericho still had Cena in the Walls. Twenty seconds in, they went to break.

[Commercial Break]

More Big Show offense back from break, just trying to knock the wind out of Cena. Cena came back with a DDT and both men were down. Cena miraculously got Show up for an Attitude Adjustment, but Jericho interfered for another DQ.

Winner: Cena, by DQ, at 6:01.

Show applied the Colossal Clutch after the match. Orton slowly made his way down- you’d think he’d want to go faster to capitalize on the injuries to Cena.

(8) John Cena vs. Randy Orton- Leg Three of the Gauntlet Match
Just think though, Cena has only wrestled nine minutes. He wrestles longer than that, without the breaks in between, on PPVs, so is this really a big deal? As Orton got in the ring and the bell rang, the Hell in a Cell in the arena began to lower. The two began to brawl in mid-ring. Cena was trying to keep Orton inside the Cell that was being lowered. Rear waist-lock did the job. Orton tried to leave, but was too late. He could only get his hands underneath. Why is this a bigger advantage for Cena than Orton again? Cena was back on his feet at this point and looking ready to go another round. The cage door was open, actually, so Orton could’ve run out that way. He must’ve had that idea too as Randy slowly made his way around the ring, then dashed for the door. Cena met him there to stop him. Cena punched away as Orton escaped. Orton was on his back, begging for mercy. Cena got him up for the Attitude Adjustment, but Orton got to the side of the cage and started climbing. Cena followed him up. Both men stood atop the Cell. The men traded rights on top of the Cell. Cena got Orton up for the Attitude Adjustment and hit it. They played his music, so I’ll assume this was a no decision.

Winner: No Decision, at 4:34 (when the music started). Well, it was smart to not really give away a match before Sunday. But who lowered the cage?!?! Not that it probably matters.

Cena celebrated on top of the cage as they replayed the finish and the show ended.

Ole Anderson lowered the cage.
Super Cena might have passed the point of ridiculous when after all the punishment he hits a fluke DDT and then can miraculously pick up and hold up a 500 pounder. Even Hogan took a few moments to Hulk Up.

That was fucking ridiculous. Cena got destroyed by Jericho and Show and still had to face Orton. The announcers hammered into our heads that Cena got destroyed by Jericho and Show and still had to face Orton.

Orton comes out, and Cena - literally 30 fucking seconds after Jericho and Show just finished destroying them - shrugs it off and Orton all of a sudden is scared.

I can't watch Raw anymore. It's such a terrible show.

Geemoney, I gotta say, your dedication is amazing for sitting through shows like these, week after week, and recapping them when ordinary mortals would have disavowed this show long ago.

Reverend Al, thanks for coming. They barely used him at all. Arguable if that's a good or bad thing. I liked the crowd booing him for his thoughts on the state of education. And then he bid us good night at 10:44pm. Is the guest host aware the show runs until 11:07 (and went way over tonight?) And who was Sharpton "educating", anyway? Besides Primo.

The first thing that sickened me was MVP saying the "VIP lounge is for everyone." WHAT?! Now, I really miss heel MVP (and I hear so does Montel.) Jericho and Show just walked right into the VIP Lounge. Respect the red rope!

Rosa is terrible. She bumped the exact wrong way for Mickie almost every time.

I did like the visual at the top of the Cell. It's been years since wrestlers fought on top of the Cell. I didn't like John Cena's Wolverine healing factor kicking in after getting his ass beat by JeriShow so that Orton, again, looked like a tremendous pussy. Which means Orton is most likely going over on Sunday. Couldn't care less either way.

It certainly helps that I watch it with friends who are generally as dedicated as I am, and we can make fun of the especially bad or nonsensical segments.

Did you know that by the time Mickie James and Gail Kim were in fourth grade, Alicia Fox and Rosa Mendes were already three years behind?

I think part of Rosa's problems may have actually been what must have been a lot of constant upheaval from a stable home during her formative years - as her apparent hometown has shifted from Vancouver to San Mateo, CA to now...San José, Costa Rica? Ohhhhh-kay.

I thought maybe Sharpton would get some sort of cheer being in liberal Albany, NY. I guess not, they had to mute most of the booing during his scenes.

If Orton loses Sunday, he's buried. He's been built up as weak now... too weak... which means Orton must win on Sunday.

Speaking of Orton, couldn't he have climbed DOWN the cage after he climbed up to escape Cena? The IQ of some of these wrestlers, I'm telling ya.

Legacy also getting booked as weak and cowards didn't set right. Sorry, DX version 8.4 isn't working for me.

Oh, I was hoping for a week or two, they would use Fink for the announcer. Justin Roberts is a great announcer though and I think deserves the promotion to Raw.

I guess Hornswoggle and Chave are going to be friends now.

I would love to see Jerishow lose the belt and have Jericho chase Cena for a bit. Yea I know, Jericho is officially on Smackdown but who cares? The memory of the average WWE fan is about 3 weeks.

I give it two weeks before we see Chavo wearing a leprechaun outfit.

For the long length of time Cena was held in the Walls of Jericho, Cena shouldn't have been able to continue and had to have been carried from the ring.

I guess they broadcast a different episode of RAW in my area, I thought it was a decent enough show. Nothing special but far from horrible.

Jericho and MVP weren't quite gelling tonight. I noticed 3 different spots where their timing was off, though they did a good job of covering it up for the most part. (Not sure there's much that could be done about Jericho catching the ropes to avoid the big boot about a second after it had already whiffed.)

I'd really like to know where the numbers came from regarding people spending more time on WWE Universe than Facebook, MySpace and Twitter combined. *Maybe* if you're only counting visitors to Twitter.com but I find it extremely hard to believe that people spend more total time using WWE Universe than using Twitter.

Speaking of Twitter, anyone who missed Chavo's drunken rant against all of the people that were bitching about him losing to Hornswoggle last week should go check it out.

The booing Sharpton got is going to be nothing if Ben loses on Sunday night then hosts this crapfest. I am not loving anything about Raw right now, it has become so boring that I thank God every day for the return of the Monday Football, Heroes, Big Bang and How I meet your mother. The show needs a complete re-write before or after the PPV, however there is a rumor that Cena/Orton will continue. What they should do is replace Raw's roster for one night with Smackdown's roster, so I can at least see a decent WWE show. At this point, ECW is a better product then Raw.

I can believe it, actually. WWE Universe has a slow, not-all-that-intuitive interface. Also, keep in mind the average WWE Universe member is a pre-teen or teenage kid who spends a huge amount of time on the message boards flaming people when not forming groups and loading photo after photo of their favorite wrestlers on their profile pages. Besides JR's blog and the occasional, increasingly-rare wrestler blog (because more and more wrestlers seem to enjoy Twitter), there's really no reason for anyone born before 1996 to visit WWE Universe.

I still get tingly when guys climb on top of the cell. Other than that, this show sucked.

Yeah, this was a tough Raw to watch, mostly because of MVP and Rosa. Rosa I can understand, but MVP messing up that much in the beginning of his match (so fatigue can't be a factor) was mind-boggling.

I will be the one guy who likes what happened in the Chavo-Horny storyline. Maybe I'm just happy that anything moved along this story, but it was an interesting way to continue this one.

Finally, how did Al Sharpton lose all that weight? Stomach-stapling? The bad side is that it makes his hair look even more ridiculous.

So yeah, terrible Raw.
