I am more than a little shocked that my Comcast and NFL Network have decided that yes, I CAN have an incredibly useful channel like NFL Red Zone available to me - ostensibly whipping around any time a team is in scoring position, but I've already seen them switch to a game where an offense is just over midfield - I don't mind. This is kinda like I'm at the house of somebody with Direct Ticket and they know JUST when to change the channel. It's also a sneaky way for Comcast to make sure I continue paying for the Sports Tier!

The only downside is it's not in HD. But as programming to tide me over during commercial breaks of the game I'm REALLY watching, it's dynamite. I just need to stop checking in when they're showing the Lions/Saints game...

So. Quick check: does anybody else have this? (I'm assuming you first have to get NFL Network before you can even think you have it, but I'm willing to be proven wrong on THAT, too.)

DirecTV has it...or at least their version of it...in HD, but only for Direct Ticket subscribers (and they have to pay for Superfan too, I believe.) This week one free preview is nice, but they already get enough of my money.

I've had it for a few years now, I usually start my football watching with it, and then move to whatever game is interesting me the most. But I've had it on most of the day today.

Personally I think DirecTV should be giving me some money back, since this great exclusive feature that I have been paying for is no longer exclusive.

It seems odd you can't get it in HD. I know RCN has a regular feed and an HD feed for the channel. I was waiting to hear what people thought of it. If the reviews are overall good I may buy it for the year starting next week.

I have DirecTV Sunday Ticket (and Superfan too I think. I have all the games in HD) and I put all four of my recievers (one HD, three SD) in my family room w/ four tvs. and I haven't put any of them on the Red Zone channel, ever.

I do see how useful it could be, but usually there's three or four must see 1pm games that my friends and I want to see, so the TVs don't change channels too much.

My uncle has DirecTV but not Sunday ticket (let alone Superfan), but we were watching it today and it was very enjoyable. He'll be disappointed to hear that it'll be going away when the Sunday ticket sneak preview ends.

Planning on getting it the first weekend I'm actually home all day to watch it. It's still absurd this doesn't just air on the NFL Network.

NFL Replay Real-Time is, IMO, maybe even BETTER than the Red Zone channel. The go through all the games in chronological order, jumping for one to the next - it's like the ultimate day of clicking around from game-to-game, only if you had every game available. It is pretty incredible they turn it around so fast.

I ordered the Red Zone channel this morning.

It is the greatest thing since unsliced bread. Yes, it is better than the idea of slicing the bread. It's THAT good.

Comcast decided to not have the channel on today! Tomorrow I am calling to complain and demand redress!

I have Comcast, and this was the first time I could watch the RedZone channel. Basically I agree with Spf. There were times where I wished I could stick with a certain game they were showing, but getting to see any of the games was good enough (no way I would see Raiders/Chiefs in any other way other than living in KC or Oakland).

The host, Scott Hanson, did a pretty great job as well. He was having almost no problems juggling between nine games at 1pm. Heck, he was listing the announcers' names half the time, which I enjoyed (and I got to learn what Steve Beurlein (sp?) is doing these days).

It was so great I now feel a bit bad for DirecTV people spending over 300 bucks to see basically what I saw for 5 dollars a month.

I flipped over just once yesterday and Pittsburgh had the ball inside their own 20 yard line. I guess that technically it was in the Red Zone but.....

It's basically on the sports tier on every company, so whatever they charge you for that. The exception is DirecTV, which makes you have NFL Sunday Ticket + the Superfan package.
According to the website, the Red Zone channel is currently available through Comcast, Dish Network, Verizon FiOS, AT&T U-Verse, RCN, Bresnan Communications, Blue Ridge Communications, Dakota Central Communications, and Midtel Cable TV.

On UVerse it's only available on the Premium HD package which is an extra five bucks per month and has nothing else of note. Probably still worth it, and I'm probably going to call and order it sometime this week.

On RCN it was a flat rate of $49.99 for the channel. I am a fool as I do not know if that was for the season or forever.

I caught bits of the free preview Comcast ran during the early games today, saw less than I might have otherwise since I was keeping an eye on the Twins and Tigers drama as well as Da Bearsss.

What I did see struck me as something like the NCAA first round coverage back when ESPN was doing it - swinging all over the map to get the best action. Great watching if you don't have a horse, less useful if you're following a particular team. And probably less fun when you're down to three or four afternoon games. (Two of which are on TV anyhow)

It would be a nice added value for the more casual fan, but I imagine you'd need to be a fantasy player or bettor to make it worth paying for?
