I have to say that I'm a bit shocked by Peter King's reaction http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/2009/writers/peter_king/08/18/favre/index.html

Me? I'm just glad we got this over with now, rather than having to hear about the possibility up and into November if the Tavaris/Sage combo platter wasn't getting things done. Vick has signed, Favre has signed, and now we can pretty much focus on pre-season and getting ready for the season where the chips will fall where they may. ARE YOU READY FOR SOME FOOTBALL??? (I am!)

Favre was absolute trash by the end of last year. He cost the Jets (and Pats by default) a playoff spot last year by throwing perfect passes to wide open defenders. Then again how dumb are the Vikings for putting themselves in such an odd QB postion to begin with?

Well he was injured, so yeah that kinda impacts things. If he's healthy, chances are he's better than what they had.

I don't get all the hate towards the guy. Who cares? Piss on his legacy? I just don't buy that crap.

He wants to play, a team wants him, good. I don't care if he retires then unretires for five more years, it's his life.

The Favre name will do much more for the Vikings than his arm will if you think about it. It's much harder for All Day to elude the guaranteed nine in the box if T-Jax or Helicopter Sage were starting. Given the slinger he is, you are forced to respect the pass somewhat.

I'll be honest. I was trying to explain to IJ what the big deal was about all this and why it was such a big deal...

IJ: What's the big deal about that guy? He's not as good as Tom Brady and I don't like his hair. It's weird.

(I swear to God she said those exact words.)

JJD: Well, you know how Daddy hates the Jets?
IJ: Is that the green team?
JJD: Yeah.
IJ: Yeah, I hate them, too.
JJD: This would be like if in seven years or so Tom Brady decided to play for the Jets.
IJ: WHAT?!?! That's not right.

Then *I* thought of TFB playing for the Jets and I threw up in my mouth a little. Sorry, Pack fans. (Except you.)

Then why not keep playing for the Jets? Why orchestrate a release the way he did if the end game wasn't to get a shot against the Packers?

Exactly. Favre is a washed up veteran that's trying to hold on, it's not that uncommon and I could care less. The problem is that because he is Brett Favre I'm dragged into it, whether i care or not. I feel like for the last three summers I'm forced to spend half of it in Hattiesburg, MS.

The other thing is that Favre is pretty much the epitome of the self-centered, pampered, me-me-me dickish athlete that TO and Ochocinco get railed for. Yet Favre seems to escape criticism. (Mostly)

Seriously?

You don't get why people are annoyed, frustrated, angry, etc.?
It's his life, but he's playing a team sport, where he is one of a 50+ man roster and he's making it all about him and his decision.....AGAIN.

Favre won't make it that far, but, if he does, at least it is comforting to know the Giants will be able to get a big interception if the game means anything.
PS: Big Blue did try to put Favre out of everyone's misery 2 years ago when he threw the second worst pass of his career in OT to help the Giants advance to the Super Bowl and to a glorious championship. Worst pass is still the OT pass in the 4th and 26 game against the Eagles.

A ticket broker offered me $300 each for my tickets to that November 1 game at Lambeau today. I'm holding out for more.

My wife and I want no part of being in the stands when Favre returns in enemy colors (yes, we do feel a lot like that Hogan/Savage clip, although I lean more toward annoyed than pissed). The fans in the stands will include the yahoos who bought Jets jerseys last year. We've got no interest in being there.

One caller on sports radio tried to explain that he was a 22 year old, and that Favre is essentially all he's known as 'the Packers'. He explained that he was a fan of both Favre and the Packers. As of today, that is no longer possible -- you can't be both of those.

This. It can only be this way and I can't understand any other school of thought. And I'm not even a Favre or Packers fan!

Jeez, Louise. Didn't he say, a week or so ago, that he's definitely out?

By the way, the Hogan legdrop analogy isn't perfect, I don't think, 'cuz Hogan joining The Outsiders was completely unexpected. I think everyone's known for about two years now that Favre had Minnesota as his ultimate destination.

Although, I think I can totally see Favre saying, "You [Packers] fans can STICK IT, brother!"

(By the way, since you're gonna wanna know, the Vikings and Packers battle in Week 4 and Week 8, with the Week 4 game (in Minnesota) on Monday Night Football. ESPN's no doubt salivating. I'm a Colts fan, but I'll probably be watching that game and rooting for the Packers to kick Favre back to the Stone Age.

Question: should I get a Packers throwback jersey with some legend like Starr, Nitschke or Hutson on the back? Since I obviously can't wear my Favre jersey on gamedays now that he's playing for the hated Vikings. Or, should I just spend less and get, like, a Green Bay t-shirt to tide me over for a few years until Favre is finally retired for good and we can start remembering the good times again?
