August 15, 16, 17 is the 40th anniversary of Woodstock. I was not alive to be there but I wonder if something like that could be possible today. From what I've been told, it was a lot of people sharing what they had and enjoying music.
I know we tried to do it again in '94 and '99 and that the last one did not work out so well. But I wish we could try to capture the vibe of peace, and not corprate sponsorship.
You explained why it couldn't happen. Everything today is driven only to make money. There is no spontaniety in anything anymore and even if you tried, everything is covered by cable, the internet, or whatever before it is even a story.
Plus there was a naiviete present back then lost today, maybe forever. Finally, like most things, it looks a lot better through the lens of time then it actually was.

as good as the music is (was) no one really wants to be a filthy hippie. Which is why we got 4 more years of Nixon and then...just a failed generation. In every aspect. Parents of the 80's crowd
Anyone else remeber how EVIL the same music was when you played it backwards (on a turntable)? Or how we couldn't fuck without the fear of AIDS? Or, how we were grown up enough to have money and went broke through two boom economies, because Greed ended up being Good - if you have credit. That's the Woodstock legacy
Some of us can thank our parents - that's what's nice about this board - we have filthy hippies, people who beat up the hippies, sons and daughters of hippies, F'N Shapiro, people who don't know from hippies and a whole generation that will never know what a great time that was, only because peace and love worked until the bills came due. Thank God the music is still alive
I've gone to Bonnaroo the last two years. It's a bit commercial (XBOX TENT!) but the vibe and the atmosphere and the real commitment to the music (and the tons of dirty dirty hippies) make it at least Woodstock's spiritual cousin. Moreso than Woodstock '94 and '99, at least.

Agreed because you can't recreate somthing that just happened (not the planned event but what it became). Its hard for events to take on a life of their own today.
