I'm looking to get either Guitar Hero or Rock Band for the Wii and wondering if folks have thoughts about which game is better for the Wii? I'd need the controller too.
The song lists aren't that important to me. All versions of the games have songs that appeal to me. I'm most interested in which one plays the best on the Wii. From what I've read, the Wii versions have different strengths and weaknesses as compared to 360 and PS3. Just looking to see which one would be a good first purchase.
There are multiple titles of each one out - are you looking at just the basic current versions - Guitar Hero World Tour and RockBand2, or more specific titles?
There's a good number of duplicate songs between the two, so it does depend a lot on your preference. Personally, I'm much better at Guitar Hero for guitar and drums, but much better at vocals on RockBand2. If you're up for it, the Guitar Hero World Tour kit (drums, mic, guitar) is compatible with the RockBand2 game (but not, from what I understand, with anything before RockBand). The RockBand2 kit isn't (from what I understand) compatible with the Guitar Hero game - RockBand2's drum kit has one fewer cymbal. I'm not sure if they'll change that with future versions of the game.
I have GH: World Tour and Rock Band 2 for the Wii, and if I had gotten Rock Band 2 first, I would probably not have gotten World Tour. (The only reason I got World Tour was because I had the GH3 guitar and wanted to make sure it would work with whatever else I purchased.)
I have a standard def tv and the lyrics in World Tour are almost impossible to make out. I can usually squint and make out the words but I know enough of my casual gamer friends that I've had over for parties have complained about that.
Plus, Rock Band has had more DLC available but I'm not sure if that would be an issue now. I'm also preferential towards the Rock Band interface overall.
All this said, I'd rather have GH or RB for the XBox of PS3 if only because $2.00 per song with no track packs ever available is expensive, and although the Wii can now support 16 GB cards, I don't think the older games can go above 2 GB.
I hope that helps!
You believe me, don't you? Please believe what I just said...
Thanks. This is all very helpful. I'm just looking to pick-up a basic version of the game, and then go from there. It sounds like Guitar Hero may be the way to go, as it's controller is compatible with Rock Band, but the Rock Band controller isn't compatible with GH.
I'm just looking to get the guitar right now. I probably won't have enough time to get really good at it. Just think it would be fun to play around it with it once a week or so.
Sing this special song. It's just for you. The Rock Band interface is the old Guitar Hero with a new name. While I appreciate GH:WT's thoughtfulness in offering songs people have heard of, Eddie is right, the vocal UI is a mess, and the other parts are equally bad or worse.
You can't beat the Guitar Hero guitar, but you should use it to play the superior game.
If they follow thru on the Playstation Suite with a big enough library, that could be pretty interesting. The Kindle model is way to go - do your own device, but get the software on as many other devices as possible.
