After about two years of history and a bloodthirsty crowd, Shawn Estes had Roger Clemens at the plate and it was obvious what was going to happen. Estes, on his first pitch, aimed directly at Clemens and missed him with the pitch going behind Clemens back. The Umpire gave the warning and it was either ejection or not hitting Clemens, of course the latter was suggested. Unless someone does it later in the game, it looks like the Mets just blew their only opportunity to get back at "The Rocket", pretty representitive of their whole season for the most part.
I saw the early Sportscenter today and both Dibble and Jeff Brantley said they were "embarassed" for Estes.
I wish I could have heard Dibble talk about this for the entire 4 hours of the baseball show on ESPN radio today.

Dibble and Brantley were pathetic. They act as if baseball is honorable and has any credibility left. Truth is, we will be lucky if there is a World Series this year.

Whatever...it was more important for the Mets to win the series, and they did taking 2 out of 3 from the Yankees. And I won 10 bucks, so I really don't give a damn if they hit Clemens or not.
But if any one pitch would sum up the Mets season so far, that would be it.

That was the point Showalter made Sunday morning. The Mets went through their bullpen on Friday night and did not have a lot of guys available. They needed Estes to pitch the bulk of the game Saturday if they wanted any chance of winning the series and turning the season around.

I think Dibs pretty much flamed himself with his anti-Estes rant. The Mets are all defending Estes. Dibble needed a ritalin bad. I mean, really...Estes pitched one heck of a game and hit a friggin home run off Clemens! Hitting Clemens on the butt would have been great, but do you think Roger's attitude is changed? He was bracing himself to get plunked--he knew he was a foot from getting bopped on the rear. The point for the Mets wasn't to hit Clemens; it was to be willing to hit him. So he missed--big deal.
For all his talk, Dibble is on pretty shaky ground as far as being a credible major league analyst. His pedigree was being the punk of the Nasty Boys in Cincinnati, and didn't even have much a career at that.
When Dibble says that its completely ridiculous that possibly 50% of major leaguers are juiced, but at the same time he makes a bunch of outrageous comments of his own...should his opinion be taken seriously? I don't know. He should have turned it down a notch.
Doesn't matter if he hit him. The point was made, and Clemens couldn't throw inside either. Besides, as has been said before, Estes homered off of him... that's better revenge, as far as I care.
I dont know.... he should have hit him.... but you know... estes had a great game. Shame he's going to be known for awhile as the guy who missed clemens.
Yeah, but you cant GET TO the playoffs without being the best in your division (or the best second place team) during the regular season. So, the regular season IS important. This I do agree with.
