Oh man, last night's show was really boring. ZZ Top did nothing with their role except hang out back stage (and along comes Santino).

The show just dragged and honestly, I couldn't wait till Monday Night Raw ended.

The main event was quite the surprise (being sarcastic of course); how many times have we already seen Trips and Cena face Orton and Legacy? The WWE is getting too redundant and stale with their storylines and main events. I might be looking forward to Shaq next week because he has a lot of personality and as far as I am concerned, nothing could get as boring as ZZ Top being special guest GM for Raw.

By the way, I am predicting a double-whammy from CM Punk at Night of Champions; he retains his title and is Jericho's mystery tag partner for the Unified Tag Team Championship match.

Not sure how many of you have seen it, but Shaq is working on a reality TV show called "Shaq vs." where he'll face off one-on-one against athletes from another sport. So I wonder if they'll somehow work that into the show next week and have him in a match?

How would you explain that in storyline terms after their huge feud?
Yes, lack of continuity is certainly new to wrestling.

No way would the Cavaliers let Shaq compete in an actual match. Now, if this was, say, Carmelo Anthony hosting Raw, I'd half-expect Vince to have someone shoot on him just to get back at Stan Kroenke.

I thought Alicia Fox looked good in the Divas match. She 'taka gooda bumpa' and didn't just hold her lower back no matter where she was hit. She's all arms and legs so when she sold a move it looked pretty good.

But yeah, they were all over the ropes and apron during the pin.

Oh, come on. There's a difference between "lack of continuity" in a wrestling show and completely ignoring the hottest feud of the last year. I don't think WWE would even be stupid enough to put the two together without some attempt at an explanation.

The game (pun shamefully intended) had passed him by while he was off injured.

With a title shot looming in his hometown at WM against the poster boy for up-and-coming young buckedness, The Rock, Austin decided the only way he could ensure victory was to align himself with Vince and Triple H.

I don't think they ever spelt it out and bashed us over the head with it ad nauseum as is their wont, but I actually thought it was one of the better, more subtle bits of writing they've done.

The problem was it was too subtle to the point of never even being mentioned. The only explanation Austin even mustered was "I don't owe you people an explanation b/c I hate you. ::is a heel now::" I think that's part of why it was such a sudden turnoff, things stopped making sense and people weren't willing to play along anymore. That and the fact that in the span of two days, the top two babyfaces in the company went from Stone Cold and the Rock to the Brothers of Destruction.

My #1 wish for Jericho's partner is Christian, followed by Miz. But it would be a great payoff if he had some reason to blackmail Michaels or Undertaker into forcing them to be his partner. Before Edge got hurt, I was hoping one of the SummerSlam main events would be Edge & Jericho vs. the returning rivals Undertaker & HBK, each guy's biggest nemesis from last year.

Christian works on many levels. But no love for Regal?

Might as well pick Cody Rhodes. That's what Ted did.

Or OR pick Hardcore Holly - he FINALLY gets his revenge (sort of)!

EDIT: Or maybe THIS is where Chris Masters ends up, after changing "Chris" so as not to confuse us. LANCE MASTERS.

I can almost see HBK siding with Jericho due to his feud with Taker. HBK realized that the fans were siding with evil and were hypocrites. He finally sees the light with Jericho. It would be cool, but how long til they break up?

Two Man Power Trip thankfully was cut short by of all people Jericho. There is no doubt in my mind that HHH would have been promoted as the hero of the WWE when Austin joined the Alliance during Invasion. When people say it was a shame that HHH missed Invasion, I disagree since it forced them to move Jericho, Kurt, he who can not be named and others to the main event spot to feud with Austin. The real problem with Two Man Power Trip is that the Hardyz never really got their revenge on them plus Taker/Kane while cool as a tag team was never really seen as a giant threat. The fans could tell they were treading water with the stable til either Rock got back or Invasion full started. I always figured the alliance had more to do with Vince then the two of them.

Huh. I never realized THAT'S why Austin turned! (But I hadn't given it a second thought until now...) Thanks for clearing that up!

Seems likely and quite shitty to envision, since Kurt ended up taking HHH's spot as Austin And Vince's Friend. Really though, they threw out all their plans after Judgment Day* and changed them all again multiple times all summer. There wasn't even supposed to be a WWF vs. WCW feud, initially. From June to July, it went:

1) Austin vs. Undertaker at KOTR with Austin revealed as Sara's stalker
2) Austin vs. HHH at KOTR with HHH turning babyface
3) Austin vs. Jericho and HHH vs. Benoit at KOTR
4) Austin vs. Jericho vs. Benoit at KOTR
5) WCW starting as a separate entity with a Saturday night TV show
6) WCW babyfaces vs. WWF heels led by Austin and Angle in a one-month feud, Linda and Vince get divorced and the roster is split
7) WCW and ECW heels vs. WWF babyfaces led by Austin and Angle in an ongoing feud, postponed roster split
8) Steve Austin turns back babyface
9) no he doesn't, Austin turns back heel to work with babyfaces Rock and HHH
[10) heel Austin never works with babyfaces Rock and HHH]

Heady times! I miss those days.

I respectfully disagree sir. Something happened between the Rumble and Wrestlemania to make Austin give up on the "one man wrecking ball" approach to reaching the top and align himself with Triple H. It seemed intuitive enough 'something' was losing to Triple H. It makes sense neither man would explicitly say that in public either (Austin because he was too proud, Triple H because belittling Austin in public wouldn't help him).

They defintely left a blank there for the viewer to fill, but it could be filled fairly simply with something that *does* make sense. Of course that's positively stealth like by WWE standards, but it's not unusual for other TV shows to leave the viewer to infer what a character's motivation is.

I don't mean to come off like "I'm so clever for figuring it out and everyone else is oh so very stupid". Even dumb people have smart ideas, and my record of predicting what will happen in films and TV shows is somewhere south of dreadful.

I also offer no defence of what went on in the ensuing months. I liked the stuff with Chris's Benoit and Jericho, but much of it was frankly dreadful.

I get what you are saying, but my problem was the alliance of HHH and Austin never should have happened in the first place. Vince and Austin was fine because Austin felt insecure and felt the need for help to be able to beat the younger guys. There really was no reason for Austin to join up with HHH, the young guy who forced the realization that he wasn't what he used to be. Fans were ready at that point for HHH to turn face, and they blew it the next night on Raw when HHH ran down during the cage match and joined in on the beatdown of the Rock.

Christian and Miz are my hope for the slot, but I wouldn't be shocked if it was Dolph Ziggler either as he'd be a step up from Lance Cade.

Since Jericho's character is that he has no friends and doesn't care if anyone likes him, it seems like it really has to be Christian because at least there is a connection. Then again they will probably just trot out Kane.
