TONIGHT: Mr. McMahon will open the show promises WWE.com. He’s got a big announcement to make, and a guest host for the night. Is he taking the Donald’s advice on how to run Raw after all? Also, Carlito & Primo get a re-match from last night as they face the new Unified Tag Champs, Edge & Chris Jericho. Plus more fall-out from The Bash.

-WWE Open.

-The soon-to-be-departed Lilian Garcia introduced Mr. McMahon to start the show. He came out onto the stage and said if Donald Trump owned Raw tonight, the show would have no commercials and every fan in attendance would get their money back. He said they’d probably want him to do the same thing. He said he has to make money with commercials, but he can give the money back to the fans. He said he CAN do it, but he’s not going to do it. He told the fans to blame Trump and said Trump made a 15-person trade between Raw, Smackdown and ECW while he was in charge and talked about Trump wanting to have guest hosts rather than a Raw GM. McMahon’s guest host tonight: Batista. Why does he have to follow the guest-host initiative that Trump set forth?

Batista was looking dapper as usual, but had a giant plastic brace on his arm. Batista said he was excited and that we’re going to have some fun tonight. He announced a four-man Night of Champions tournament to see who faces Orton at N.O.C. He said the matches will be The Miz (how did he earn this slot?) vs. John Cena and MVP vs. Triple H. Batista switched gears and said when Vince first approached him about this idea, he didn’t like it. Before he could get to the punchline, Randy Orton and the rest of Legacy walked out. Orton told him he shouldn’t have come back. He asked if Batista was a glutton for punishment. He asked Batista what is stopping them from coming to the ring and tearing him apart. Batista warned that if they even look at him the wrong way, he’ll fire all three of them. Why can’t he do that anyway? Batista finished his thought, saying he didn’t want to come back unless he was ready to fight, but then decided to come back when Vince promised him unlimited power. He said he could make Orton’s life a living nightmare. Orton talked about the punishment he suffered last night and Batista, suffice to say, had little sympathy. He said he wouldn’t make Orton defend his title, but what he did have to worry about was the trade that was consummated before Trump left. Batista said Raw acquired five superstars, but Batista will only have him face three tonight, in a gauntlet match. Big Dave said it’s time Orton felt what it’s like to be on the receiving end of a 3-on-1 attack. Well, wouldn’t it be easier to make it a three-on-one handicap match? This trade seems like it was a last-second decision. Batista was OK on the mic.

-Lawler and Cole talked about the matches that Batista announced for tonight. In fact, one of them is next: MVP vs. Triple H.

[Commercial Break]

(1) Triple H vs. MVP- Semi-Finals to Determine a Number One Contender for Night of Champions
MVP took The Game into the corner, but HHH landed right hands on MVP. MVP worked over the injured leg of his opponent. Figure-four applied by Montel Vontavious Porter. Trips broke out, but MVP stayed on the injured leg. He set up for the Pedigree, but MVP whacked him in the leg. He was getting heavy boos against Triple H. “Ballin!” elbowdrop got two. He missed a running boot in the corner, but back-dropped out of a Pedigree. Running boot connected (allegedly, anyway) and got a two-count. Playmaker didn’t work, but the Pedigree did for The Cerebral Assassin.

Winner: Triple H, at 4:34. Well, that wasn’t completely unexpected. I guess I should be thankful it took Triple H over four minutes to dispose of MVP.

-Unified tag title match is next!

[Commercial Break]

-Jericho and Edge made separate entrances and Jericho got the mic before the match. He talked about his vow to never wrestle on Raw again, but because of his extraordinary talent, he’s back. He began to talk about the only reason he was here, but Edge interrupted and said Jericho was here because he went up to Jericho last night to form an alliance. He said they marched into Teddy Long’s office and demanded to be put in the tag title match. Edge took a shot at Raw himself, and then the Colons’ music interrupted.

(2) Chris Jericho & Edge vs. Primo & Carlito- Unified Tag Team Championship Match
Primo got Jericho off balance early, including a leg sweep. He even took it to Edge on the apron, then back-dropped Jericho onto his partner at ringside. Primo and Carlito each hit baseball slides on the heels. Match continues after break.

[Commercial Break]

Surprise, surprise, Jericho had Primo in a rest-hold upon return. Edge then tagged in and worked over Primo himself. He and Jericho showed surprising teamwork in the ring after being at each others throats the first few weeks Jericho was on Smackdown. Hard slap by Jericho, but Primo countered a running bulldog. Carlito tagged in and hit a neck-breaker on Jericho for two. Carlito got another very near fall, but hit a flying cross-body for two. Crowd was really hot for the two-counts. Edge finally tagged in on desperation by Jericho, but Primo tripped Carlito when Edge went for the Spear. Backstabber by Carlito, but Jericho, at the last second, made the save. Primo dove onto Jericho on the outside. Knee-lift by Carlito, but someone tripped Carlito up on his springboard attempt, allowing Edge to hit the Spear. Cole tried to clear things up by saying Jericho pushed Primo into the rope.

Winners: Edge & Jericho, at 9:37. More than suitable re-match here. They even had me thinking the Colons might actually re-gain the titles.

The Colons argued a bit in the ring afterward.

-Randy Orton wrestles in a 3-on-1 gauntlet match, and John Cena takes on Miz.

[Commercial Break]

-Lawler and Cole thanked ME for watching The Bash last night.

-Orton was ranting to Rhodes and DiBiase backstage about the match Batista put him in tonight. Batista then walked in and said that if Rhodes or DiBiase interferes in the match, they’re both fired on the spot.

-They showed a video recap of the Cena vs. Miz feud. It made the feud interesting, but then last night’s match killed it.

-Cena was walking backstage...his match with The Mizard of Oz is next!

[Commercial Break]

(3) John Cena vs. The Miz- Semi-Finals to Determine a Number One Contender for Night of Champions
Miz appeared to still have his trademark cockiness despite his loss last night. Right off the bat, Miz worked over Cena. That didn’t last long, as Cena came back with a bodyslam and elbowdrop for one. Miz went to work putting the boots to Cena. Crowd was solidly pro-Cena. Rear chinlock by Cena. Miz got into the corner, forcing a break. Miz got in a cheap shot and suplexed Cena for two. Knee-lift into a neck-breaker for Miz. Miz stayed on the attack, slowly taking apart Cena with right hands. He threw Cena off on a bulldog attempt, then choked him over the top rope. Cover got two. Cena was in pain the corner as they went to break.

[Commercial Break]

Another rest-hold greeted viewers back from break. Clothesline after coming off the ropes by Miz and that got two. Running corner clothesline by Miz. He has been dominating for quite some time now. As I type that, he went to the rope, only for Cena to grab him. He wanted an Attitude Adjustment off the second rope, but Miz turned it into an electric chair for two two-counts. Miz stayed on the attack with shots to Cena’s back area. Running boot by the former Real World star. At the 11:00 mark, Cena locked in a sleeper. He wrapped his legs around Cena’s waist. Cena got back to his feet and backed Miz into the turnbuckle. Cena officially shifted momentum and gave Miz a five-knuckle shuffle. Cena locked in the STF on Miz, who tapped out.

Winner: Cena, at 13:54. Certainly gave Miz more credibility than last night’s match. I thought they said earlier that the finals would be tonight, but now they’re saying next week I guess. Maybe Cena will compliment Miz next week on his match, putting Miz over a bit?

-A three-on-one gauntlet match with Randy Orton being the “one” will be later tonight.

[Commercial Break]

-The announcers talked about the Championship Tournament and the Cena vs. Triple H match next week.

-Rhodes was trying to pump Orton up, but he told him to shut up. DiBiase told Orton to survive tonight. Teddy got off the phone and said it was his father telling him he’d be the guest host next week on Raw. Orton didn’t care because it didn’t help him this week.

-Kelly Kelly and Mickie James came out for the Fatal Four-Way Women’s Match where the winner faces Maryse for the Divas Title at Night of Champions. Maryse came out after Mickie did, presumably to watch the match from ringside.

[Commercial Break]

(4) Kelly Kelly vs. Mickie James vs. Beth Phoenix vs. Rosa Mendes- Fatal Four-Way where the Winner Faces Maryse at Night of Champions
Maryse was on commentary and the match began as soon as they came from break. Beth shoved Rosa down and tried to go for a pin, which was broken up by Mickie. Maryse laughed off the idea of Miz hitting on her. Kelly and Mickie went one-on-one in the ring. Double dropkick on Rosa from Mickie and Kelly. Beth covered Mickie, then Kelly, but couldn’t pin either. Beth punched away at Mickie and it looked like Rosa was going to get her, but Beth saw it coming and Rosa backed away. Mickie and Beth had an ugly sequence that ended with James applying a dragon sleeper. Then Rosa grabbed a reverse chinlock and Kelly locked in a sleeper on Rosa. Interesting visual for sure. Beth pushed all three women into the corner. Sunset flip by Kelly on Beth, but Phoenix kicked out. Mickie rolled up Kelly, then Rosa a backslide on Mickie. Near-falls all over. Beth slammed Rosa down as Maryse complimented Kelly’s looks again. The two faces pounded away on Beth. Maryse was like a giddy school-girl talking about Kely. Glam Slam on Kelly, but Mickie broke up the pin. Mickie hurricanrana’d Beth out of the ring, then Beth landed head-first on the apron. Mickie with a terrible jumping DDT on Rosa to finally get her shot at Maryse.

Winner: Mickie, at 6:04. It had its good moments, but it had its ugly moments too. I’m talking about the moves, not the participants. And six minutes?!?!

Mickie confronted Maryse after the match, but Maryse shooed her away. James and Kelly hugged in the match after they showed a replay.

-Big Show was walking backstage. He’s up next in....something.

[Commercial Break]

-A video aired on WWE’s Summer Slam Reading Jam, some sort of “get out and read” program.

(5) Big Show vs. Kofi Kingston
These two had a good match on Superstars or Smackdown not that long ago, so this has promise. Show stood on Kofi near the ropes and slammed him down. He missed a big elbowdrop and Kofi got a sweet kick to the face. Kingston got out of the way of a corner charge and Kofi dropkicked him off the top rope. Double leg-drop to the chest but Show kicked out with authority (TM Vince McMahon). Show dumped Kofi to ringside to regain control. Show picked up Kofi over his head on the outside, but Kingston snuck out the back and shoved Show into the ring-post. Neither man could make it back in before the ten-count.

Winner: Draw, at 3:40.

-The 3-on-1 gauntlet match is next.

[Commercial Break]

-They plugged Ted DiBiase as the guest host next week.

(6) Randy Orton vs. Three Mystery Opponents- Three-on-One Gauntlet Match

First opponent: Evan Bourne, who is now on Raw. Sucks for ECW, I was hoping for more Tyson Kidd vs. Bourne goodness. Bourne ducked a clothesline, but Orton sent him to the apron. Roll-up by Bourne for two. Spinning heel kick for two. Bourne used his kicks to try to take out Orton, but Orton was immune and nailed him with a European Uppercut. Orton stomped right into the chest of Evan “Air” Bourne. Standing moonsault by Bourne after a trip and that got a near-fall. Roll-up for two. Low dropkick for two. Double-knees to the shoulder of Orton off the top. Evan then went for his Shooting Star Press, but Orton got a hold of the ropes and crotched him. From that position, an awesome RKO for three. Bourne was done in 3:20. The next guy up: Jack Swagger. Wowzers.

Swagger shoved Orton off, but they stayed separated for quite a while. Swagger stood on the apron with that dumb-ass smile of his, arms folded across his chest. He purposely got counted out at 1:14. Swagger got the mic and said he always respected Orton and on his first night on Raw, he wanted to leave a lasting impression. He then shook Orton’s hand and left the ring. The third man was Mark Henry. No Tony Atlas with him. Henry had a mic too. He also said he always liked Orton, and he has a lot of respect for him too. Henry then said he also wants to make an impression, and its gonna be a good one.

They locked up in the ring and Henry powered Orton down. Henry then got on the apron, like Swagger, to presumably get counted out. When he got to five, Henry grabbed the ref’s arm to stop the count, then he started laughing. He gave the “no” signal and re-entered the ring. Well, if Henry’s a face, it makes sense to not have Atlas with him, though I think Atlas could be a face. Orton got down on his knees to beg Henry for mercy. Henry shook his head no and grabbed Orton by the throat. Beal out of the corner followed by the World’s wettest headbutt. Big splash in the corner by Mizark. Orton slapped Henry, but Mark came back with another headbutt. Orton went for an RKO, but ended up getting World’s Strongest Slammed. Wow, and that’s it.

Winner: Mark Henry, at 3:32. Surprising result. I hope ECW got something good back in their part of the trade, because they lost a few of their biggest stars. I would assume this means a big push is on the way for Henry, but I’m not sure where he fits in on Raw.

Henry celebrated in the ring as Batista stood on the apron and looked quite happy. Batista should’ve just been made Raw GM while he’s injured.

-Cole and Lawler talked on camera and plugged the Triple H vs. John Cena match next week, with the winner taking on Orton at Night of Champions.

-Show ended with more Henry celebration.

This was actually a pretty good RAW, but it's going to take some time for the ending to digest in my system. How did it make any sense at all? MARK HENRY is their answer to the babyface problem on RAW? Seriously?

GREAT job in instantly getting Mark Henry over as a babyface star.

Henry won me over during his ECW reign. Yeah, he'll never be one to have a string of ***** matches, but he showed his charisma during his ECW Title reign. I'm FINE with WWE giving him a shot.

Just went to WWE.com to see if they're going to post the shuffle right away, or if they'll have us wait for it to be a surprise on each brand. (Should be fairly evident by tomorrow anyway, since they're taping next week's RAW as well tonight.)

No luck on who went where, but there was this, from their live recap:

Only a week after buying Monday Night Raw back from Donald Trump, Mr. McMahon appeared on the show to reveal that several of The Donald’s ideas were actually swiped from The WWE Chairman. In an effort to honor what were originally good ideas, McMahon decided to go along with two of them.

That's a perfectly acceptable storyline for what they could've had Vince said to make sense of it. Of course's it's not what Vince said, so maybe someone got the wrong script somewhere along the lines? Maybe I need to keep going to WWE.com to find out how storylines were supposed to work, as opposed to how they actually happened.

Impressive top rope version of the Texas Trash Compactor by Cena.
Jericho saying he wouldn't wrestle on RAW except for being a tag champ would be impressive, if he didn't wrestle on RAW last week.
Are the BET Awards the new version of being at the World if you aren't on the PPV. And, that MVP push seems like it isn't on the horizon.
As a despicable heel, why would Orton even bother to wrestle in the gauntlet match, considering it was non-title? It's not like he is a virtuous babyface who will fight just because his honor demands it. All Orton had to do was lay down as each wrestler hit the ring as a giant Screw You to Batista.
A Mark Henry top card babyface run? Anyway they can put Ho Ho's on the banned substances list to end an idea out of the Bradshaw/Bubba Dudley pushes of '02?

Shelton on ECW? Fuck that. He was doing fine on Smackdown and had a lot of good matchups. Who the hell is he going to feud with in ECW?

Matt Hardy on Smackdown.. no. They just drafted him to RAW. Good job on admitting the mistake, but what a waste of time.

But why get rid of Finlay in the process though? They could have had those 2 just beat the crap out of each other for a few months, perhaps throwing the title in to extend it further.

I would have thought Christian or Swagger would have been put over as the face in this one. But to get over both Swagger and Henry was well done. Let's hope they give them a legitimate push instead of another MVP and Miz tease.

What's the point of Big Show against Kingston especially with that horrible finish? Please stop over-exposing the Show.

Prediction: Matt Hardy shows up on ECW. Christian makes it to Smackdown. But with the draining of ECW talent, who else ends up there?

well: I get this prediction proven wrong after 60 seconds.

Women's match was 99 percent predictable

The Jack Swagger thing is the reason I hate friggin' RAW. Why in the world would he do that? (in a storyline sense). Wouldn't BEATING the World Champ do more for his career than buddying up to him? There's no motivation for his character to take it easy on Randy Orton. And please don't give me the "He can be part of Legacy" reason. He's a former ECW champ, why would he want to go be a lackey? And (once again, in storyline sense) it's not as if the Legacy is the white hot group that you HAVE to be attached to (unless you want to be hit by sledgehammers). But hey, at least they are elevating new blood with Mark Henry...... (cough)

Kevin Kelly: "Mr. Austin, would you like to comment on Wade Keller's Take that endorsing the XFL hurts your anti-authority character?"

Steve Austin: "Oh shit, he actually said that? I thought the boys in the back were ribbing me!"

Kelly: "No, he really said that. Did they tell you the part about you sitting in the stands, looking all skeptical?"

Austin: "AHAHAHAHAHAHA. Yeah... oh man that was too much."

Because it's better than helping the dork that you eventually want to beat for the title that you supposedly want. I would have been fine if he had done the count out thing, then looked at Orton and said "You owe me" or "I'm only fighting U when that title is on the line". This just makes him look like a kiss ass. I get it, it gets him more over as a heel, but there's ways that it can be done without making him look like he wants to get with the "in crowd" like some high school sophomore.

First off, if you are comparing Jack Swagger to Mideon, you are already off to a bad start with his character. Of course, but in the WWE World, it's supposed to mean something to the characters. The Jack Swagger character shouldn't be satisfied with being a lackey. In his mind, the ECW title should mean something. His character should have looked at the end of that show, watching Mark Henry soak up cheers and the announcers talking up his win and thinking "Hey, I missed my chance". It's just little things like that is what could potentially make the audience not take certain characters silly and make you say "Hey, wait a minute...."

Miz needs to learn a submission that's not a sleeper. Also, he needs about ten or so matches with Bourne before the year's up.

Also: The fact that Mark Henry, Miz, Dolph, Show, and MVP are the internet's boys is still mind-boggling. If the IWC was a music genre, they'd be Post-Smark.

Agree with the majority in that the Henry turn (if it is that) was well-executed and has me interested. If Tony Atlas comes along, I'll be even more interested.

I agree with DirtyMikeSeaver that the booking of Swagger's character was unrealistic in storyline sense. Swagger is built up as a franchise player on ECW, a man who lives up to his very apt name, but on Raw, he's a total kiss-ass chump. Makes no sense, unless they have him come back at Orton at some future time and menacingly remind him that he owes him. As has been already suggested, Swagger stands to gain nothing from sucking up to Orton, and so I found this booking to be a bit inconsistent with the picture of Swagger painted over on ECW.

I feel for Evan Bourne, moving over to Raw. He can get crazy over with his offense, and maybe he and Kofi can team up against THE Brian Kendrick and his perfect partner and deliver some high-flying classics, but I have a sinking feeling he might just be lost in the shuffle and forgotten quickly. Smackdown and ECW both gained some solid workers and Shelton v Christian would be something to look forward to on Tuesday nights.

Got the feeling that Miz and Cena had the match they wanted to have at the PPV on Raw. It was better/longer than the effort at The Bash and the focus was on a less goofy, more aggressive Miz. Unlike MVP, the Miz push still seems to be going forward at least, where as poor MVP has pretty much stalled. Jobbing to Trips in 4 minutes is not the way to go, methinks.

So Trips/Cena III next week? Not looking forward to that.

Rather a snore of a show. Ooh boy, we get to see Orton face either Cena or HHH in a pay-per-view main event! Or, maybe even a three-way match between the two! How unique! To make matters worse, HHH (who, as we were told, was basically at death's door health-wise) still managed to beat MVP in four minutes. Super.

Re: the trade. Swagger definitely deserves a spot on one of the big shows, but I'm worried that WWE won't strike while the iron is hot and we'll watch Swagger burn through all of his future money feuds along his 'paying dues' path and won't be a proper main eventer until 2011. Bourne seems like a better fit on Smackdown, and my mind is boggled by the fact that of all the guys they could've given the big debut push to, it's Mark friggin' Henry. In the year 2009.

Kirk, crackers are a family food. Happy families. Maybe single people eat crackers, we don't know. Frankly, we don't want to know. It's a market we can do without.

They couldn't move a couple more guys doing nothing to ECW? Are there more new guys ready for them to call up already? The ECW GM just traded all it's top young talent for Regal and Benjamin? Isn't that about as bad as the Gasol trade?

The Mark is *still* sniffing around for a WWE job, as well, so you have to take THAT grain of salt into account when you read his column.
